If you were drowning...

So im a lil drunk and casino royal is on, theres a scene where a chick is stuck underwater in an elevator, heres the question.

If you were in a situation where you were 100% going to drown and there was no escape (think trapped in a room filling with water) would you-

A- Take huge gasps of water in order to try and make the suffering minimal and end it quickly

B- Hold your breath as long as possible, last a minute or so and eventually take a huge breath of water

Well, drowning is supposed to be absolutely horrific and painful... So I'd probably try to hold my breath as long as possible hoping I'd pass out or go into shock. I'd potentially tie a shirt over my head or something in attempts to keep my sympathetic nervous system from trying to inhale all that water.

I don't think taking huge gasps of water would kill you much quicker, would it? You're going to die due to lack of oxygen whether you've got CO2 or water in your lungs. I'd probably take the huge gasps of water just to see what it feels like to have your lungs filled with liquid.

This is not very true; while drowning can be one of the more scarier ways to go, it is actually quite painless and is over quicker than most would think. Most people go unconscious after 30-1 minutes of being. It's more the panic of realizing your drowning that is the tough part.

i'd probably hold my breath and explore my butthole with my fingers. i'm gonna die anyway and i've always been kinda curious. also then the medics would find me dead with my dookie on my fingers and it'd be silly

hold breath till your body screams to breathe then take a gulp and die...or pass out holding my breath...

drowning is actually supposed to be a pretty peaceful way to pass. Regardless, it still absolutely scares the ever living shit out of me.

Idk I've heard that inhaling the water is pretty painful, but when the time is actually coming that it's pretty peaceful. Idk I'd rather not drown.

Yea, there is no way its peaceful. Inhaling water fucking BURNS your lungs, it feels terrible. Some say its the feeling of your lungs and chest having spasms

i once saw a documentation on some kind of special unit and they trained escaping a helicopter which crashed while over sea. so they flipped this helicopter-dummy into a swimming pool and the trainees had to try to reach the surface. if someone is panicking and cant release the safety belt, the rescue swimmers would wait until hes unconscious because otherwise he could endanger them while hes swirling around his arms like a mofo.

seems pretty tough, but drowning is definitely not among the worst ways to die. being cheesegrated to death on a 30 ft cheese grater or being crushed by a steam roller (driving 1 mph) feet first come to mind, among others.

Close my eyes, sit down, and accept death like a man. no screaming, no thrashing, clawing or any of that shit. Or how I would hope to go.

Well as tough as I'd like to pretend I'd be in reality I'd be clawing at every surrounding wall trying to escape until I eventually pass out and die.

Yes you would live, but do you realize what water can do to you? Look what happened to Steve Stepp for goodness sake!

Human nature would kick in and you would hold your breath for as long as possible and then naturally when you can hold it any more your body gasps for air sucking in water which fills your lungs. I forget what happens after that but drowning is explained in detail in The Perfect Storm. Its one of my favorite books. Give it a read if you havnt. Its short

This is more similar to the accounts I've heard.

Did some more research into it and it seems if you go for the calm, hold your breath method, you can pass out before your lungs fill with water.. and then it's peaceful (although sounds like this is very difficult to do)

Also sounds that if the water is very cold and you hold your breath long enough that you do one big inhale, you get knocked out pretty immediately.

If you panic and don't aim to hold your breath... then it's a nightmare and you vomit and piss yourself and you may not pass out until your lungs fill with water which burns like hell. If you are in a "sinking" situation, you also have to deal with the pain of the water pressure.

Yeah.. drowning... so peaceful.

bad dream: falling down a well head first and not having enough room to flip right side up. So your feet are in the air and you are so close, but you still drown. That would suck

But uuuhh I dunno I guess if I'm dying it doesn't really matter if I go through a lot of pain because it comes to an end and I never have to relive it? Though I'd probably try and ease the pain because I hate pain... I fricken hate these kinda questions haha damn me for opening this thread after seeing the title.
