As I revealed in a recent thread, I stupidly spilled my beer on my laptop, destroying a ~7,000 song music collection I've been building since I was ten years old. So I bought myself a notepad and I've been writing down all the artists I can think of so when my new laptop arrives I can get the library back to its former glory as quickly as possible... which will still be months of constant downloading.

I currently have about 300 artists, covering everything from hip hop to classic rock to reggae to techno to all sorts of other random shit... But it's nowhere near where it needs to be and I'm beginning to run out of ideas. So I ask you, NS, to post as many obscure artists you can think of. Or just super dope artists you think I need to have or might not have. Pretty much any genre, elctronica, mellow, whatever. Or, if you can figure out how to do so easily, all the artists in your library. There will be a TON of repeats, I'm not worried about that. The more the better. Thanks NS.

i dont know if you have ever heard of them but, cali p, mgmt, geto boys, and girl talk are all good. theyre pretty obscure and you may have a hard time finding them.

if you have the music on an ipod you can take it off the ipod onto the new computer. just google how to do it

to first guy up there...

and for original poster, finding music isn't hard. It's not about having people tell you everything they have. Just listen to stuff and try looking for stuff by yourself. Hear a song one day and come home and look for it. Listen to what you like not what everyone tells you to listen to

Justice, Boys Noize, Death from Above 1979, Bloc Party, Busy P, Chromeo, The CLash, The Cool Kids, Daft Punk, Crystal Castles, Digitalism, Girl Talk, MSTRKRFT, Rage Against the Machine, Ratatat, Steve Aoki, THe Strokes, Weezer, Wolfmother, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

some of the names that i have

Didn't have MGMT and I'd forgotten Geto Boys. I'd be a shitty NSer if I hadn't heard of the other two haha, but again that's fine. In the immortal words of Seth Rogen, "When I was growing marijuana, I realized that the more seeds I planted, the more pot I could ultimately smoke". Same idea, even if I have 90% of these that's 10% I didn't. Thanks for the help.

I know how to find music. I had 7,000 songs. But it takes time, and I don't want it to take time. I'm going to UVM in a month, I want my music then.

And I tried a bunch of different HD recovery companies and they're all 600$+, I'm way too poor. I'm gonna talk to this guy who might be able to do it tonight, we'll see... but the inside of the laptop is coated in dried beer...And thanks for all the people who posted while I was replying to the first guy!

Had a Shuffle unfortunately, but that got fucked up in another similarly gay way. Even if it didn't, 200/7000 ain't great, especially when it's all my favorite music from artists I'm likely to remember instantly.

Hope this helps. I just scrolled down my itunes and put down some of the artists I have.

hey man my brothers girlfriends computer got fucked up, but she went to best buy and got this thing. basically, you take the hard drive out of your computer, and plug it into this thing. then it connects (by a usb) to your new computer, and it shows your whole hard drive, so you can get all your music off of it. i dont know how much it costs, but its probably around 40 bucks (buying it online is probably even cheaper)

Take the hard drive out of the old laptop and copy them from there. And back your files up in the future. Get a USB enclosure for the old drive and that's both problems solved.

pull the hard drive out of your old laptop and try to recover your stuff, if you only spilled beer on it you may be able to salvage at least your data,

Yeah, there's this guy at work who's just gonna throw my old HD into his laptop and see what he can recover for the hell of it. If it's useable I'mma buy an enclosure for it and BAM! Got myself an External HD so I don't have this problem again...

yea, but i had a similar problem. i put all my music and footage on my external hd, then i dropped it and lost everything. luckily i can use my ipod to back up my music.

Damn, that sucks... I'll probably keep mine nice and secure inside my laptop bag unless I specifically need it for something but as with all technology, you can always fuck it up.

isn't mac lethal from kansas or iowa or something? i thought that is what he said when i saw him a few months ago. either way, look into him, he is good as hell.

anyone ever listen to glue?

Damn this is one hell of a process downloading all this music... I really hope my HD recovery goes well...

Get irip or ipod copy or something like that. If you can't find a free one it's only about 20 dollars which is worth it for the time youd have to spend downloading. You can then drag all your music on your ipod back on to a computer.

A) You don't need a program to copy music off your iPod, just the knowledge of how to enable hidden files and folders.

B) Read the thread, it's been suggested numerous times and also shot down for reasons I'm too lazy to repeat.

I appreciate the suggestion, but it's not too helpful.

Awesome, thanks, he's the one artist from the ones you named I couldn't find. And that blog looks solid.
