I've been using this to get my music for a while now, I think around 2, 3 years. Now I just download via Hypem or torrents, I just find the quality is better that way most of the time. Anyways, here are some tips and tricks I use when I use it:
- Wiretap does not download the music, rather it records the audio. In other words, any sound you would here from your speakers is recorded. For example, the volume, if you adjust it while recording, not only will you hear the volume of the song change in the final audio, you will also here the apple "volume changing sound".
- Wiretap also records pauses in the sound, for example if your buffering is slow while recording audio from a youtube video and the playback skips or pauses for a second, you will have that in the final audio and it can get bothersome. To fix this, when you're recording the music, make sure you only have the browser and wiretap open. This reduces the risk of the audio pausing and skipping during playback.
- If you're recording from youtube, go the length to find the best audio quality, it helps a lot in the long run.
- Watch out for random stuff in the beginning and end of some youtube videos, you don't want to hear "This was provided by studio 123456789" everytime you play the song.
- In Preferences, go to "source" and on the drop-down menu beside "Record:", select Trim Leading and Trailing Silence this helps your song play when you press play on iTunes, rather than having a 6 second silence before the actual song starts. This can happen with youtube videos when people like to put song titles and what not before the actual song starts.
Hope some of that helped, happy recording/downloading!
