I am almost 16 and making my mind up on a car. I live in Ohio but plan to move out west for college, what is the best mountain car that is good in snow, not expensive, and has decent gas mileage. thanks for your help

get a 5 speed with at least 200hp. in colorado on i-70 thier is a section for about 10 miles up hill. I just put it into 3rd gear and go 110mph while all the auto suv's are lagging thier asses off.

Get a jeep charokee or grand charokee, i've have one my roomate had one but got an explorer and hates it. Jeeps can not be destroyed i've jumped mine 5 feet in the air and still drives perfectly, had to to fix the motor mounts. Everyday i drive it hard as hell, and everyday it starts up no problems. And i live in montana and its never gotten stuck, i've even pulled out my brothers f-150, no problems. Their mini tanks.

if i were you and if you were willing to pay around 14,000 for a car i would get a 01-03 subaru wrx impreza, there fast as hell handel real damn well and look good.......if you wanted something else that was a little bit cheaper go with like an older jeep grand cherokee there all wheel drive or at least some of them and there a good car in general...good luck

peace

i love my Xterra... its BOMB PROOF and ask anyone that knows me that thing has seen the wars... i have an '03 supercharged sx so its a pig on gas but supposedly the new ones are better on gas with a better engine. I have an auto one but a buddy has a stick and i love his SO much more... and thier not that expensive BRAND NEW i think there about $35 which is one of the cheapest 4x4 suv's out there!! but i know most dealerships have ones that are a year or 2 off lease and are cheap!!

My vote goes to an Audi. Heated seats, AWD. Extremely nice on the inside and out.

You can usually get a nice 90 or Coupe for a few thousand. Or if you've around 10k you can get a nice used a4.

i get 17 around town if i take it easy, 22 on the highway in my 93 ZJ(grand cherokee) XJ(cherokees) will get about 1mpg better b/c they are lighter.

I have a Toyota Tercel. In 4 years I've been trought every snow storm you can imagine (sometime a trip of 2 hour ending up in a 4 hour trip) and never got any problems. If you drive safe and know a little how to drive a car you can pretty much get anywhere withy any car...

HE WANTS CHEAP GUYS!!!

for about $2k-$4K you should get a 1984-1991 BMW 325ix. its 4 wheel drive. its a bmw. cant get much better then that. It gets 21mpg. these are good little cars, I had a non 4 wheel drive one before I had the car I have now

an old volvo never dies, have RWD and always starts even how cold or hot it is. Swedish quality steel so its bombproof. good luck and drift up to the mountains.

you need a audi quattro, price one out. people assume you are loaded if you have one, but this is not true. i was bought one instead of a honda accord cause it was cheaper and i love it!

damns thats exactly what I pictured in my head when he said he needs a car for the mountains... its like a hatchback isnt it?

I think he said cheap....which puts all the subarus and xterras out, unless he gets a crap bucket. I used to live in Bragg Creek on an acreage and i had a chevy sprint.

But a decent car I'd say

1)an old volvo pros: cheap, run forever, mileage

Sry didnt finish that and hit tab by accident.

cons for a volvo are parts are expensive, and its not 4x4.

2) a 1990-95 nissan pathfinder pros - bombproof, parts are inexpensive, 4x4, cheap

cons - mileage (I don't know it, but id imagine its about 15-17mpg in the city and 20 on highway

there, thats my 2 cents worth

You guys are funny... Volvos Audis, x-terra

I think he wants cheap.

Buddy just buy some domestic front-wheel drive small car and get some good tires.

I used a 93 Dodge Sundance and put 1000's of kms on it. Never got stuck and never put it in the ditch.

haha yeah i was kidding, but it would be badass to have.

umm id look into an older 4-runner. they have good space, reliable, and 4WD. decent gas too. plus they are cheap if u can find the right ones

thats the car I mentioned.

Su's suggestion is a good one as well, although make sure you get one with a 5 cylinder engine, Audies can get expensive to maintain and they are by no means as reliuable as people say they are.

This is where my love of customized cars conflicts with my skiing lifestyl. I have a honda Prelude SH with a full body kit and engine mods. While it is insanely fun to drive up to whistler when its dry, it don't go well in the snow. So I am selling it and prob getting an suv, maybe a hybrid but they look small.

i have a 2000 subaru legacy gt limited, got it last year, about $12k. Kinda expensive but great car in the winter and my parents like it cause its safe.
