If you had to move to another country for a year

a europeein country with lots of snow. norway, sweden, maybe lichenstein? andorra would be dope to live in

Grand Cayman Island. It's wealthy, beautiful, and even though I'm not a beach person I think a change of scenery would be lovely.

Yeah the past few months I've spent living in Germany have been incredible, although that's also partially due to its proximity to so many other sick places like Austria (probably where I would choose to live), Switzerland, and Italy.

I've gotta say though, I don't think the beer lives up to the hype. It's great, but it's not what I was expecting.

Um what?

If it was for one year I wouldn't really care much cause anywhere would be exciting, I think I'd choose Japan though, or possibly New Zealand.

That's tough. Berlin Germany is a sweet city that rages all the time. Good location. Switzerland is expensive as fuck but if I had money I'd go there.

belize. amazing scuba diving. ridiculously cheap high quality drugs. not overrun by tourists. it's pretty much a tropical paradise. you don't have to wear shoes or a shirt ANYWHERE. heaven on earth.

i would move to canada, which im doing in a week for 6 months anyway and which i do every year :) because skiing is real fun

i'd go to switzerland if i had a bunch of friends to go with. it's a sweet country but expensive and there's not much to do up in the mountains. maybe austria or germany

JapanJapanJapanJapanJapanJapanJapanJapan

180sx and powder for days. That's not even mentioning the food.

Scotland. The highlands. That's all.

or Mozambique. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the world IMO, and it borders Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania.

Why is Switzerland so expensive? And everyone seems all excited about Austria, whats there?

But I'm happy with America... BACK TO BACK WORLD WAR CHAMPIONS BITCH

Well considering Zurich is like the banking capital of the world, they have a good amount of money, so prices are high. I traveled to Zurich for a night and holy shit were drinks expensive. I'm sure there are cheaper parts of the city but it was pretty astounding considering what I'm used to in Germany. In Interlaken prices were much better.

Austria is a really beautiful country and the people are awesome. I couchsurfed with an Austrian guy and got to meet a lot of sick local people in Salzburg. I'm pretty sure the glaciers there are supposed to be really good for skiing as well (such as the one near Innsbruck, which is where the European IF3 is).

maybe the states for hawaii. when i went i realized i probably wouldn't want to live there permanently, (so far away from EVERYTHING) but it'd be sick to spend an entire year doing nothing but surfing, since a week vacation every now and then is not the way to get good at it.

I've had dreams of moving down to 'Murka for a year or so (Bozeman, MT, South Lake Tahoe, Jackson, WY) but a few years ago I got banned from America so that's no longer an option.

Now, I guess I would answer that question with Austria. True mountain culture, sick skiing, cheaper than Switzerland, and yeah, I guess that's all for now.

I was at a bar when i heard this so idk if it's actually true ,but the prices this guy was claiming shit was there 35 euros for a drink. i don't see how anyone can live there for more than a week.

I would assume that, like anywhere else, it depends on where you go. I mean shit, we have bars around here in Michigan where you can buy a martini for like $20 next door to a bar where you can buy a 44oz mug of PBR for 2 bucks.

Pffft, sooo many options.

USA (I live there now, but I love it), Canada, Chile, New Zealand, Japan, (northern) Norway, Argentina.

All for the same reasons: beautiful countries.

Switzerland is not part of the EU, partly because it has a lot of wealth and wants to keep it that way. There are lots of possibilities for people to stash money or make investments there, because that's what Switzerland is good at, and it brings them a lot of income. On average, people earn a lot there, which means prices are higher than other countries around it.

Austria is considered the origin of modern skiing (before that, it developed in Scandinavia and Asia, long before the 1850s), and there are a shitload of good mountains to ski, often with lots of powder. Freeskiing has only recently come to Austria, but it's getting more and more popular here.

Another thing about Austria is that it borders Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic, making it a great place to be based at for travels.

I live in the states right now, wouldn't mind moving to Vancouver for obvious reasons.

If I wanted to go somewhere not adjacent to me, it would probably be either France, Italy or Germany.

As someone who just spent half a year living in Switzerland with the only reasoning behind it being, "Why the fuck not?"

The cost of living in Switzerland is LESS than the cost of living in Mammoth.

My rent for a 800 sq ft 1 bedroom including highspeed internet and 200+ channels and my utilities was $780 in as downtown as it gets Luzern with a view of a fucking fortress wall/castle and the river.

I typically spent less than $40 a week on groceries and the food was fresh and delicious. Although I did have to cook everything since things like pasta sauce don't really come premade.

Clothing was stupidly cheap if it wasn't brand name. Seriously... Cheaper than target.

What is sort of expensive is restaurants/going out. Starbucks is stupidly priced, but why bother. Normal cafe's, a latte was usually around $3 to $4. Food at a 711 type place was cheap and a bottle of tea was usually around $1.

Most average restaurants are in the $20 - $30 for a plate of food, but here is the thing, they are significantly nicer. There are no diners, there isn't really fast food, and if you do happen to go into a mc donalds, yeah, you will spend $11 on a combo that is better quality food than anything you will get at TGIFridays. I did happen upon a really nice all I could eat indian buffet. It was fucking delicious and $20 for everything. Seemed fare to me. But I'm used to living in Mammoth where the food is the same price unless it's happy hour (in which I didn't find any happy hour food there).

Now on to drinks. Beer could be more, could be less. Grocery store beer is dirt cheap. Like cheeper than PBR. Going to a bar... You're looking at around $8 per pint, but there aren't cheep beers so really its slightly more than getting a guiness. A lot of places do have happy hour though and I was finding $5 to be pretty standard. Also, European Pint is larger than a US pint.

Mixed drinks are fucking stupid though. A house whiskey is around $10 and is typically Jack. If you want soda, you will buy an entire bottle and spend about $15 for your drink. Places basically only have water on tap.

Hotels are expensive. There aren't really hostels. The lowest quality hotel you will find is basically the quality of a US Best Western in which you can expect to pay $150 on the cheap but will probably get free internet, breakfast, have a bar, and free transport. They don't really do things half assed.

Trains, you can get a half pass meaning everything is half fare. Zurich to Luzern was $14 each way and it's an hour train ride. Sooooo same price as LA. Train to Paris if booked in advance was as low as $40, on the spot was around $100. I had $90 first class and got free drinks, food, and internet for 4 hours.

Gas is expensive, but it's expensive most places that aren't the US... and the public transport is so good pretty much none of my friends had cars unless they were wealthy by swiss standards or lived in the country.

Canada, because skiing, big trucks and cheap gas. Or France, because skiing, the language and summer-type activities.

Or just Norway. Because it's basically the most beautiful country in the world, and the border is less than an hour from my house.

New zealand. Skiing, biking, cute girls with awesome accents, and the fact I have heard that Canadian's are loved there.

I lived in sounthern Germany for a year and it was amazing. I could see Austria and Switzerland from where I was.

If I could go back to Europe for a year it would probably be either Austria, Croatia or Montenegro.

If Europe wasn't an option it would probably be either New Zealand or Fiji.

New Zealand or Norway or Utah

New Zealand because I've heard that country is just adventurous as hell and there are so many awesome things to do.

Norway because of obvious reasons.

And Utah because the one time I went to the rockies there, I fucking loved it, I'd like to see what goes on there around the year and the things to do.

ya that island is awesome although its so ummmm touristy it would be hard to live there i think. I perfer a place like Golden BC CANADA!

My sister in law lived there for a year and absolutely loved it. If you stay on certain parts of the island you avoid the cruise ships. I really liked it when I was there.
