If you get a red ring of death, try this

yea so i got a red ring of death last night on my 360 and was pretty upset. but then i found this vid, and i said hell i'll give it a shot, and it actually worked. it blew my mind, so before you send it in to get repaired, try the blanket trick.

wrap it in several blankets with only the power cord in, and turn it on for 20-25 minutes, then unwrap and let it cool for 10-15. and it fixes one of the heating problems somehow. soo legit

yea my friend did this and it worked for a week then died again. hopefully urz is fixed but i doubt it. i heard this like melts something back togather but i may be completly wrong

Bwahahah the Towel Trick, I've heard of that, I'm amazed it actually works.

But for those who are worried and haven't Red Ringed yet, honestly, the best way to prevent it from happening is keep your Xbox oriented VERTICALLY and buy a 20 dollar fan stand. Thats it. It will last forever. The 360 was designed to be stood vertically foremost, rather than horizontally. It provides greater 360 degree (mind the pun) airflow. People whine about scratching the disks, thats bullshit, as long as you don't move your Xbox while it's on that will NEVER happen, I don't understand why you would want to anyways...

def thought this was going to have something to do with ring sting.

guess my bum will hurt for another night

i did the towel thing with my friend and it works fine now...i've heard though it just comes back in like a week so you just have to do it like once a week...its really sad that you should have to overheat it to make it work. Mine hasn't been diseased with the red ring(know on wood) and its horizontal.

for serious? yeah I was under the impression that having your xbox stand vertically fucked up your discs because I've witnessed it many times.. and it sucks balls.. but I was not aware of the red ring of death.. leave it to microsoft eh

i had the ring and hit my xbox with the palm of my hand. and it started working again but went back to the ring after 2 weeks, so i sent it in and got a new one on warrenty.

i have always had mine vertical and it was fine untill it got knocked over while i was playing. that lense ate shit. took it back to the store and they gave me a free one.

another thing you should do is keep it off the ground, if its on the ground it will pick up dust and dirt and shit off the floor and fuck up your system

I actually have mine vertically upside down. It's the only way it fits and still opens, haha

i hope that never happens to my xbox, basically its when ur xbox is telling you that it's in its time of dying and will kill itself if it doesnt get help soon

Okay, HERE IS WHAT YOU DO

When you get the Red Rings and you're XBOX is finished......put it in the bin, hit yourself for buying it and then go and buy a PS3.

Thats what my friend does, he hasnt had any problems at all and he plays halo like mad crazy, im not even kidding like hours a day.

played it and wasnt impressed, so id rather stay with sending it in and getting it back for free then laying down 500$

when u do that, you are basically heating up the parts and resoldering anything that fell which caused the red ring. eventually it wont work, just send it in. ive sent in 2 xboxes and i usually get them back in the same week. and the one i have now is making weird noises...

how can they not work? as long as theyre pulling hot air away from the console i dont get how to cant work. and thats what a fan does.

Hell I don't know. I just read that they can hurt more than help, and a small fan aimed at the intake vents will work better.

I got a nyko fan with my 360 for christmas, but i returned it and bought skate.

yeah those fans supposibly screw up the cooling currents in the 360 and makes it hotter in some parts.

had that happen to me, i had to send it back to microsoft, sucks it took like 4 weeks to get another one back

yea it happened to my friend and like a few days before i had stumbled upon a vid similar to that, so i told him to try and it worked! ... for like 2 days then he just sent it back to microsoft and got it really fixed.
