If you could spend 15 minutes to talk to anyone in history, who would it be?

i'll be back in the morning to finish this up, but for quick notes:

Tacitus - not fond of christianity or christians, most christians would rather not cite him for reasons i will explain tomorrow

Suetonius - not favoured as citable by christians, mostly for having said "chrestus," more likely a jewish aggitator than Jesus Christ, especially since it unlikely he would have misspelled "christus" while spelling "christians" properly.

Thallus - did not once mention jesus directly (most definitely not his birth, as you say), most of his works are lost forever, did mention Moses (as did most other histiorians), and did mention a "darkness" that may have been related to the execution of Jesus (same time period).

Phlegon (of tralles, obviously) - generally ignored by most christians, despite having mentioned jesus, also spent more of his time writing about the existence of ghosts, prophecies by heads, monstrous births (Siamese twins), hemaphrodites and giant skeletons.

Serapion - you'll have to specify further, as notable serapions outside of christianity were physicians, and serapions within christianity were bishops or siants, or both.

Josephus - Jesus is mentioned in two passages of the work The Antiquities of the Jews by the Jewish historian Josephus, written in the late first century AD. One passage, known as the Testimonium Flavianum,

discusses the career of Jesus. The authenticity of the Testimonium

Flavianum has been disputed since the 17th century, and by the mid 18th

century the consensus view was that it was at a minimum embellishment

by early Christian scribes, if not a forgery. The other passage simply mentions Jesus as the brother of James, also known as James the Just. Most scholars consider this passage genuine,[1] but its authenticity has been disputed by Emil Schürer as well by several recent popular writers. Josephus' other major work, The Jewish War, makes no mention of Jesus.

if the pope(s) doesn't want to cite these people, why must other chistians?

just because certain christians don't want to cite people, doesn't mean that they didn't talk about jesus. those people were off the top of my head, i have read a lot about this before and i know some were iffy.

it's a pretty well known fact the jesus in fact did walk the earth. read up on josephus and the antiquities of the jews, that's the best source there is.

everything ive read about him says that theres a good chance he could be fake/counterfeit. whatever you wanna call it

Teddy Roosevelt. he was such a badass, adventurous, and cool guy. hes definatly my favorite president.

well of course there are people who say he was indeed a fictional character, and people who say he was real. but a lot of professors/historians etc. have accepted the fact he was real (now the story of jesus is still of course up in the air!). i can care less what anyone else thinks but unless i missed something it's become pretty fairly accepted he was a real person.

wait what? did you even read what i put about josephus and jesus? i've read the passages, the cases against them, and now, thanks to you, the case for them.

Just remembered Genghis Khan who kicked everyone's ass.

And Achilles because he destroyed everyone, well as long as they didn't touch his heel.

Jesus!!

And with all the people arguing over his existence etc a main reason why I believe he was real is some one must of been pretty damn smart to make up a chracter that is proberbly the most well know name in todays world over 2000 years later. You think if he was made up some one would of found a seriouss flaw you cound'nt argue with by now...

And after Jesus proberbly Hitler, because hes a pycho genious.

everything i've read/heard says that Jesus was almost certainly a real person, but his life was probably exaggerated heavily to the point that it barely resembles his real life.

I think talking to Hitler would be extremely interesting. He was a genius, but for all the wrong reasons. He masterminded so many good attacks and ran the most well documented and efficiently run genocide ever. Really i think i'd just want to know why he went to war with Russia so early, and why he kept his attacks up through the winter. He was big into history and knew that no one had ever successfully attacked russia in the winter, so why did he make the same mistake?

Jesus, the person, without a doubt existed. he was crucified the way that the Bible explains. the only controversy lies within whether or not he was divine.
i don't really care about finding sources for this cuz 1. this is what i know to be absolutely true, and 2. im not that adamant about it in terms of an argument.
sidenote--im studying in Italy for this semester and today my high renaissance class toured st. peters and the vatican museum. in the vatican museum they have several thorns from jesus' crown and shards of the wooden spear that stabbed his side. pretty unbelievable to see in person. next week we're doin the scavi tour to see st. peters burial site which will be sick as well

did you make it in to see the sistine chapel?

that was/is the most astonishing piece of artwork I have ever witnessed with my eyes in my life thus far. To me it seemed the piece of art was on fire it was so bright in that candle lit chapel.

oh... and of the top of my head i would love to meet

Jesus Christ

William Wallace

meriwether lewis and William clark

George Washington

Benjamin Franklin

Thomas Jefferson

James Madison

John Adams

Abraham lincoln

tons more but thats it for now haha.

but if i had to limit it to just one person it would be Thomas Jefferson for multiple reasons.

the reason i didn't pick Jesus is because I believe i will meet him one day.

dude your completly missing the point. Jesus did exist but most of his life is exagerated/ there isn't any other sorces besides the bible. noone is trying to argue that jesus was the son of god and did all the mystical shit the bible says. we are just saying that there is proof that jesus did exist back in the day and was crucified.

I think Jesus was a h4x0r, but if he was real (wich i don't know) i would definitely talk with himm super powers or not . Second choice would be Hitler.

the catholics actually voted on his divinity in Venice alot of years ago... they literally used majority rules to find out his divinity and immortality ;)

I didn't say it was probable, Im sure you would have a better chance of winning two lotteries and getting struck by lightning in the same day all while having a threesome, I'm just saying there is a very slim chance that it is scientifically possible.

Ya for sure. Sometimes I wish I could have as much faith as some Christians I know. Know matter what happens they never lose their faith in what they believe, it doesn't matter what happens, they will still be happy. It seems so great....

But at the same thing incredibly frustrating because no matter what happens, they NEVER LOSE THEIR FAITH. it took the catholic church how long to admit Galileo was right? it was like 1995 or something like that

"People go to a church for the same reasons they go to a tavern: to stupefy themselves, to forget their misery, to imagine themselves, for a few minutes anyway, free and happy." - Mikhail Bakunin

"Some of you say that religion makes people happy. So does laughing gas. So does whiskey." - Clarence Darrow
