If I was going to buy a knife

What would the knife wielders of NS recommend? H&K? They have some sort of cheap ones. 3" or under would be cool.

Yeah I would recommend that one I have it, it's great for chopping fruits and vegetables.

my god that would actually be entertaining. just imagine how much fun gallagher would have murking watermelons all day with that thing

If you actually want to invest in a good high quality pocket knife, I would look benchmade. All their pieces I've owned/fondled have been superb.

The one I used for a former job. Worked exactly like I wanted.

My all purpose "knife"

Or go with the Browning Zombie apocalypse knife.

I have the smaller version of the kbar and love it. But if I was gonna get another folding, I would definitely get a Gerber spring assist, like the covert FAST

Here's an equation to help you choose the right knife

Make a list of every thing you want+every thing you will absolutely never ever in your life need and makes the term "over kill" look pathetic= knife for you

Refer to the first knife for an example of a possible choice

My dad has this one. It's called the puma "white hunter". He doesn't hunt though, just bought it as an everyday knife.

It's pretty nice and will last a very long time

I have this one and it's decent as a general purpose knife.

It's quite cheap and you can get it without the serrated section if you want.

....I actually had that knife. My buddy borrowed it once and like a dumbass he kept it under his drivers seat in his car. He got pulled over for speeding or something and they smelt the weed in his car. So when they went to search it they found the knife too. I was pissed to see that thing be taken away for good.

Opinel, cheap, razorsharp, carbon blade.

No. 8 is the most versatile size, great knifes, every French farmer swears by these things. They have remained unchanged for over a hundred years because they just work. Also at 15 euros it doesn't matter if you lose one. And they quickly develop a nice patina.

This. I rock my Leatherman sidekick all the time, great versatile multi tool

I appreciate having a knife, but why not a multi tool instead? Once I picked up my leatherman I stopped needing a knife because the leatherman did everything a knife did and much more

Highly recommend this.

Opinels last people lifetimes. Great knife if you want an actual tool rather then just something to show off and hold "for your protection". Cheap and replaceable too.

i came here to post this as well. ive worked a lot in the kitchen industry so i know the difference between a good knife and a bad one. despite trying out all different folders from 25 - 200 dollars and all different brands, i never found anything that worked significantly better than my opinel #8.

I carry a SOGZilla, Flash II, or CRKT M16-14t in my back pocket every day. They're all a little bigger than you're looking for, but I'm happy with them.

You can get a CRKT M16z with a smaller half-serrated blade, for pretty cheap. I bought a few on SAC to use as gifts, and might still have one if you want.

hahah fuck thats a pretty big "everyday" knife, unless your dad is rambo i guess. to me it seems like a knife that big and burly only makes it less practical but to each their own, atleast your dad looks like a badass with that thing strapped to him at the grocery store

my everyday knife is a Leatherman Freestyle. its just a half serrated blade and pliers/cutters but its cheap, light, slim and super handy. pliers are the most handy thing ever, WAY more so than the blade. I would carry a simple pair of pliers around before a normal blade haha

if you just want a folding blade for everyday shit, this one looks badass/classy and is pretty cheap. not as burly/rugged as others but it doesnt really need to be unless you are taking it out on trips

What are you using it for? Hunting, field dress, camping, utility? For the first three I would say Helle of Benchmade. Amazing quality.... Beautiful knives.

But for utility, just any leatherman, or gerber shit. My work knives get beat to fuck.... so I just get cheep.

As for protection, well get the shiniest..... most deadly looking thing. Everybody knows that in a fight you just flash the steel at the guy to distract him, and then kick the shit out of him.

I carry this CRKT with me every day.

And this is the multitool that I usually use when I'm working:

Leatherman-Wave-LG.jpg

I love both knives, the CRKT is perfect for what I need it for, it has assisted opening so it's super easy to open with one hand. The Leatherman is just all around the best multi-tool I have ever owned. It even has my name engraved on the side of it (it was a birthday gift from my girlfriend last year).

anything gerber, benchmade, or kershaw is going to be quality, they have fantastic warranties and while expensive are worth it.

and while ka-bars are awesome, they are way too big to be an everyday utility knife.

Honestly, either an Opinel or a Byrd woul dbe the best bang for the buck.

Opinel if you're looking for SHARP and don't mind something a bit more bulky.

Byrd (subsidiary of Spyderco that sells bascially the same great-quality knives for 1/2 price) if you're looking for a Spyderco-style utility pocket knife.

Ka-Bar if you're going full on survival knife.
