Identifying other Newschoolers

haha....it was on presidents weekend. we were waiting in line for the lift at the park. you were with some kid and you were both wearing warriors jerseys. i saw a ns sticker on one of you guys and i asked if you guys were on ns. and you just stared at me.
 
I fucking LOVE this idea!

It is akward sometimes. I mean its even super weird for me to just walk up to a kid and say "Hey you on NS? My name is Mr.Bishop!" Fuck I feel like a child molester or something ya know?

I think this is total gold... lets keep the suggestions flowing and then put them all to a vote on the poll? We've got to narrow it down to about 10 or so.

I do think thoug that the original idea of chads gap is just priceless...

and woah woah woah! no war against TGR, that's not what I meant to start by posting their comments! they have a very tight knit community over there if you've never visited. it may take awhile of getting called a jong- but in the BC where your life depends on who you're with you have to know the other person is legit. not too long ago some guy got his pack stolen and a ton of people jumped in to send him replacement gear right away. they look out for each other whenever theres news of an avalanche involving skiers, or whenever someone's hurt. it's a different place, here we're primarily younger and a lot of park rats. they're older there, but not old, and they're damn fine skiers too. not to mention the amazing trip reports posted daily that you barely ever seen on ns. so don't go hating on tgr. it's all skiing, and in the end we're all just really fucking obsessed with it.
 
i think something would be better like something you can just yell out in the lift line. like a bird call. and then if another bird call answers you, you find the person and ski with them. or mate with them.
 
I think the original would be funny, but you would sound like a fool if they had no idea what you were talkin about, but that woiuld still be kinda funny anyhow

Bro that was me he was skiing with. My bro is always on the lookout for NSer's so he probably didnt hear you or someshit. He usually skiis with music bumpin. What park were you skiing at?
 
haha yeah thats me, my music was bumpin i don't even hear my own friends when they are speaking to me when im on the hill, im normally not a douche unless you cut me off or something like that. i remember seeing a few kids and thinking about asking if they were on NS.
 
im not sure of the name, it was my first time at squaw. but it was next to high camp.

you and your brother looked cute in your matching jerseys though.
 
gotta rep the local teams yo. But the park by high camp is either mainline which is the bigger one or belmont which has a buttload of jibs and a few small tables. Where do you ski at normally?

no seriously, I am really good at picking out kids on NS at the mountain or wherever. haha I remember times when I've been walking down the street and was like "hey are you on NS?" and the kid was like "what the fuck....yessssss!" haha. awesome.

I'll never forget the first time I was officially called out as an NSer. I was rocking my OG blue NS hoodie at Mt Snow one day back sometime around 2000-2001. Got called out by a former NS mod (Darryl). "Hey dude your on Newschooler???" his response was in total shock. This was at the time NS had less than 700-800 people on it. He was friends with Harvey or something. We shot the shit and took a run or two and parted ways.

Theres no harm in calling a potential NS'er out. If they aren't on the site, they will just be like "What the shit is newschoolers.com nerd?!?!" and you can just be like "whatev's hansel you ain't no @th1337" and just ski away.
 
how about this! some how we raise money and all active users get 2 customs NS stickers! they say ns and then ur current username below. how baller would that be. or we should all just buy NS stickers then go to michaels and buy a small sticker pack and put our NS SN below the NS sticker.
 
haha. wow. brilliant. i vote you for president. have you seen the majority of NSers try to ski pow. i know a lot can, but you must realize where the most of the ns population comes from and how old they are. please don't make stupid generalized comments. as well, you don't know how many big mountain shredding rednecks/hippies are guys who got bored of park and now slay the bug mountains.

and for the other guy, how is skiing pow old school? I know the idea you are getting at, but pow skiing was around long before park, and i'm sure it will be around a lot longer. try it one day
 
yeah i met these kids who made a jump at the bottom of the hike up from McConkeys at PC. After the third time i went off the jump i asked them if they were newschoolers. they looked at me puzzled and responded, "what's that" i then said of its a freeskiing website, nevermind. I was surprised these kids had never even heard of it even though they made a sick jump. Then a few weeks ago i met this kid at the WaWa doin 7's and 3's in the Pipe. He had also never heard of newschoolers.com. I think more freeskiers need to be enlightened about newschoolers.com

Sure your average person who posts in Ski Gabber might be younger, but really that is a very small segment of what makes up the entire website.

I don't think we should generalize so easily, and as well I'd really like people to stop hating on those of us who don't live in the mountains. I mean so what if someone isn't good at skiing powder, maybe they grew up in Wisconson or London, Ontario. Why reject these people just because of where they live?

 
Oh and TGR forums have just as much stupid hate as NS. I mean really read through it there's a ton of people who are just out there to be mean.

Its the nature of the internet, not just Newschoolers.

 
doug, you just owned the shit out of me. I'm sure most people are surprised at those age stats, I never would have guessed. However, I wasn't hating on people who don't live in the mountains. This guy just made a pretty ballsy claim saying most people on NS are better pow skiers. No hating on park whatsoever, or people from the east. Just as you said, a lot of people don't have access to big mountains, so I think it's pretty tough to say that they are better pow skiers. Sure they could learn eventually.

I have seen plenty of those assholes on the tgr forums, you don't need to remind me.

ps. tremblant is way bigger than a lot of local mountains in BC. I don't know about pitch though. and obviously less snow.

any more interesting stats?
 
Me, Skiing pow? NO WAY!! I wasn't in tahoe during the gnarliest january it has seen in a few years, nope. You are absolutely right. I don't ski pow at all.

What I am saying is that they probably can't match the talent level on NS. And from reading their forums, they are a bunch of douchebags.
