Idea... want thoughts.

Hey NS,

In memory of my brother who died in a skydiving accident 4 years ago, I want to get a tiny tattoo. I am not good with needles, but I feel like I should get one to commemorate him. I was thinking of a really small intricate parachute holding up his initials (YD)... What do you guys think of that and where should I get it? I've changed my mind about tattoos because I've seen some really cool ones lately. I just want this one and I want it to be really small. I have a couple of little sketches I drew out, but none of them look quite right.

Maybe a parachute that looks something like this?

sorry about ur bro man. at least he died doing something sweet...if i could pick how i want to go it would be doing something i loved. too small could look feminine. just a thought

Well you need a parachute to skydive, and that's what he died doing...

Where do you guys think I should get it?

yeah i mean that's why im asking and why i said you know the details better than i do. was it a longtime passion of his? i was just thinking, if i wasnt really into skydiving then i died doing it, i might not want my commemorative tattoo to involve a parachute.. idk

then nevermind, i think it's a good idea. sorry

cant give any advice on where to put it. i'd put a tattoo like that on my shoulder but youre a girl so..

Haha I'm aware, but I feel like it would look weird that way. I was thinking about wings, but everyone has them and they can look kinda trashy in some cases.

do a parachute but somehow affect the graphics on the parachute so that it clearly forms a heart or something like that.

That would be cool, it would look good like going on your side I think. But I hear that is crazy painful so maybe on like the back of your shoulder would also look good.

So the parachute is in the shape of a heart? Or has a heart on it?

What about adding his middle initial and putting the initials in the shape of a heart?

I think if you wanted the detail to really come through, it would have to be bigger than the photo you posted.

I think this would actually look good. At least, with a well drawn parachute. Sorry, just did this quickly.

That is a great idea for a tattoo. I would look for some parachute designs and find a simple one. just below the shoulder on your back would be a cool place for it i think.

That is way too much detail. To get that done with good quality/clean lines you would probably need to go upwards of 3 inches tall/.

The smaller you go the less detail you can have. Especially for when the tat ages itself, it'll all just blend together.

side of your ribs. either side....and go a little bigger.

It's for your brother and what your doing is amazing in itself. He would be honored to know his sister is going to the extra lengths to show love. RIP !

Owww I'm not sure I could do that, but that would look cool.

I can't figure out what type of font to do for his initials and if they should form a shape or just be in a line.

I didn't draw this, but how about a parachute that looks something like this (smaller)

So I drew out a few sketches and this is probably my favorite, but it's not well drawn. I'm thinking this is just about the size I want. What do you guys think about the initials... I'm kinda iffy about them. To clarify, the bolded "V" is his middle initial, not part of of the parachute.

I don't know if I'm a fan of the hanging initials. But then again, the most important thing about a tattoo is if YOU like it.

I'd suggest keeping it as simple as possible, if you have a really complex tattoo that's small its going to fade quicker and become less visible more quickly.

Maybe just do a 2D chute that's really basic with the initials below it? That would probably end up more clearly defined, I don't know that much about tattoos though. Check the tattoo page on about.com, super useful.

I like that idea better. It may just be me but the whole parachute/skydiving aspect isn't very clear with just the letters hanging.

I was thinking something like the person on the left of the tattoo pic someone posted, but at a bit of a different angle with initials on the 'chute.

getting a tattoo is a huge decision. it will be on you forever. you have a valid reason to do this. however your insistence on asking advice on the details of the tattoo in an online forum would indicate you are still a little "unsure". wait for divine intervention. in a dream or in reality you will have a moment that will click and you will know what to get and where. when this happens you will have no questions and it will feel right. there is no rush, wait for this moment. it will come.

That would have to be a BIG tattoo... unfortunately you can only go so thin with lines before they smudge/blur.

Sorry for your loss by the way. I lost my sister and though she was so young I think about her all the time. I'd like to get a tat for her someday too, just haven't decided what yet.

sorry to here about your brother, but thats a very sick idea. i love the picture you drew! another idea is you can have someone parachuting with his initials either on the parachute or under the person a little curved around his feet. or have rip then his initials curved above the parachute.
just some thoughts but, just make sure you like it. doesnt matter what ns thinks about it only you do.

I think that looks great, but even with the less detail something like that will still blur fade and mesh. I think you should get it a little bigger, if you don't want to go bigger than something like this will be all you can do really...

Then maybe put the dates on the chute and his initials under?
