Idea trend whores (short rant)

You forget, or you just don't know, that snowlerblading was the original idea. your most beloved pros started as snowlerbladers. shit, the entire freeskiing industry spawned from snowblading. anyone on here whose old enough to remember snowblading in the xgames will back me up on this one. also the creators of line and siver and any core companies will state this too.

fuck. another one... skiing with poles is sick if you can. most kids just flail and look retarded. though i guess most kids do even with poles.... but still. if you can pull it of rad. but who cares. and no one that i have ever met has said poles are gay. except me when i jam my thumb or some shit cuz of them. and i do think they get in the way alot. grabs feel betee withough them. but yeah. stop posting about no poled.

Didn't everyone learn how to ski without poles? People saying that you should only drop your poles after you learn to ski with poles have it dead backwards.

no way dude, being cool and trendy is the most important thing in skiing...why else would anyone ski?

wow, what are we doing? Fuckin ski kids, stop acting like a bunch of nancy's. Poles, no poles. Hey im gonna start skiing with vegatables in my hands. who fuckin cares. Ive been skiin for 14 years, raced for 6 and i dropped poles cause i forgot them and i felt mad free. Plus it helps your balence like whoa. haters

i role my pants up

call me a trend whore but i have tight boots and have to unbuckle them constantly before i get on the lift.

The two times ive gone skiing this year, ive gone no poles, mainly because i dont have any... i still gotta get some. My ones from last year disappeared.

But no poles is super fun. See more free, not having to worry about poles.

since when did i hate on style? im hating on kids who just assume that they are amazing by looking just like a pro. like arrogantly acting like the shit and hating on everyone else.

YEH KNOW SHIT, HOW IS NO POLES PROGRESSING THE SPORT?!?!?!?! UR JUST DROPPING SOMETHING AND NOT LEARNING ANYTHING, UR JUST SKIING WITHOUT SOMETHING.

So far this year I've seen multiple different kids (meaning under 18) riding 1-2ft of powder without poles, and it makes me mad. Skiing powder without poles is just dumb. ANYONE who knows anything about ski mechanics know that pole planting is a big part of a turn. I dunno about other people, but I tried shreding without poles (by shreding meaning like steeper stuff and pow) and i found it uncomfortable and unbalanced and not fun. And these kids without poles skiing pow are just riding backseat and ruining their skiing.

I'm not trying to make people change or tell people what to do, but i see powder skiing without poles to be foolish.

'oh and if you still ski park with poles yur just a fag and you arent progressing skiing"

not to be an asshole, but has anyone EVER said that to you? im pretty sure the poles community has hated on the no poles community a thousand times more than in the reverse. but seriously, poles or no poles, who cares man, you don't need your feathers in a ruff on this shit, its not even important.

i've skied bc withouth poles and its been some of the sickest days of my life. you get stuck sometimes, and you can't really traverse, but if the terrain allows its so much fun. it shouldn't make you mad, its kind of a sign that you're a big douchebag. no offense.

What do you push with when you get to the bottom? As previously stated people have been skiing without poles for a long long time, so I don't see how it is "progressive". Don't olympic ariel skiers not ski with poles. That niche is old as shit. They dont use poles because they get in the way of manuevers. When most of us learned to ski we didn't use poles. I don't think it matters. I think it is harder to ski without poles these days because I usually have to hike in or out of the run. Back when the norweigans started skiing they used a big wooden staff. It is fun for me to see different stuff on the hill. Not everyone rips and that is ok. If some kid who otherwise would not have skied at all decides to because he/she thought it looked cooler without poles then so be it. Who cares if they suck, they won't be in my way.

Pole planting helps you shift your weight down the fall line in order to initiate a turn, but you don't necessarily need poles to do that. I've skied powder without poles and it was really fun, and I know how to turn.

Or:

Don't worry about what other people are doing, who cares, if they're having fun?

That one's pretty cliche though.

I'll never get rid of my poles, what then would I use to smack my bro in the back of the legs as I go by or pop his heel piece out while cruising down groomers, I think you guys all forget what poles are really for. Next time your in line with a buddy aside of you stick your pole in the ground on the far side of him and push him towards it, instant larffs.

haha owned. i think no poles is pretty f ing ridiculous if your not in pow... seriously you look like a d bag with terrets when you turn

actually some ski instructors have beginners ski with no poles... so you look like a nOOb skier and a d bag at the same time with terrets

Fuck all of you are trend whores: skiing with skis. I'm gonna progress the sport and go boot skiing. Hell yeah double grab boot-only jumps is all skill nyah nyah nyah

Not true.  Granted, some skiers who are still top pros (Pollard, Wilson) were snowlerbladers.  But what the Canadians (Douglas, Cusson, Szocs, Vinny, JP) were doing at the same time snowlerblading was at its peak was not inspired by snowlerblading whatsoever.  Most skiers (at least everyone I know) was fully embarrassed by snowlerblading and wanted no relation to it.  Anyone who had a clue saw the full limitations of where the sport was headed.  It was like snowboarding on a lunch tray.  Anyone could stand there and spin around on those things.  Of course, they landed about 10% of their tricks because they had no platform and seeing them off of groomers was pure comedy.

By the way, you're not alone in this one, but the term "freeskiing" was spawned well before snowlerblading even existed, and before skiers skied backwards.  It came from skiers who were sick of steep skiing being called "extreme".  Somehow people now think "freeskiing" suddenly began in 2001 or something and strictly defines freestyle.  That's not the case.  It defined skiing just for fun outside of a race course.  Of course, that discussion's worthy of a whole other thread.

No poles is a great style and a great way to progress your own skiing.

but if you drop your poles and immediatly your turns become angles instead of carved arcs and you're so far in the backseat that your butt is on your tails then don't do it

idea wasn't progressive because they were skiing with no poles, you can do the same tricks and have the same style with poles it's really jsut a preference thing

do what ever you want, i usually ski with poles, but usually i ski a few runs a day without poles. i do like skiing in the park without poles

You're just starting a trend about hating on no poles. You're just stupid to bring out the hate like that.

The last time I went skiing some one screamed: No poles no style!

and it made me fuckin mad, first the guy was in the chair, and who the fuck is he to judge other people's choices. The hate makes me mad, not the fuckin trends, see, there's trends in life and everyone seems to live with them. So if you feel bad in your skin, then just shut the fuck up the next time.

i ski with out poles when im at my local moutain which happens to have nothing but park, but when i go somewhere else that i need poles in, then i use them, im not gonnna rag on anybody that still uses them, and im not gonna tell anybody that its cool. i like it in the park, its fun. i dont care what other people do.

The application of the word works in that case, placebo meaning something that is of no actual value but is simply used to give comfort.

i remember when i used to ski with no poles my first year in the park back in like 04-05 and i thought i was the shit just because nobody else was doing it and everyone hated on me because i sucked too

yeah i agree, now everybody that sucks is gonna try to go no poles and do ugly hand drags off everything and such (not saying i dont like hand drags). but if you really want to do it, whatever.

exactly right most of us and sorry if im speakin out of turn but my family was taught to ski by my dad without poles so that u gain enough balance to turn and have an egressive stance. once i would do this well and ski everything at te great divide(this mountain i learned to ski) i was given poles. for anyone that skis really steep and variable snow u would not that a good pole plant is esssential to make and turn and saving your life in a no fall line. skiing without poles makes ur wight shift back wards in a turn and therefore with variable condidtions u will feel as if ur skis are coming out from under yourself. the same is true in powder it will just not happed so fast because u will be so far back and the snow is helping holding you. pep and eric can do this because they are amazing skiers they mastered skiing stepp without poles and now they have progressed the sport to a different level

im not saying stop skiing without poles just something to consider when thinking outside of the "trend"

maybe it isnt a trend, maybe people actually like it.

I know that my logic might be insane here at the NS fashion show, but you know, maybe people actually like doing the shit they do.
