Idea to generate NS mad skrill.

Ok, so I hate these ideas as much as the next guy, but I think we need to justify there existence...

We have to deal with looking at them, but I assure NOBODY clicks on them, thus generating revenue.

So heres my idea, every sunday or something, we go on a mass ad clicking campaign to generate mad money. After a few months of this, the elders could calculate and use all the extra dough for member perks, i.e random contests (photoshop/video) for say a pair of goggles or something like that. What do you think?

no he means underhanded fake website hits for the sponsors that will screw them into giving money to ns without us buying any porn or escort services or puzzle pirates subscriptions

i think...

haha whoops yeah I meant ADS. And to mattster, you are correct as well. We go on an ORGANIZED clicking binge every so often which would generate a great source of income for newschoolers. Well?

it would be interesting to know how much they make off these banner ads...right now there a jays ad...random

ehh honestly id much rather just have less ads. im going to donate soon and if like half the people on here gave a few bucks it would be nice and sort of bring ns back to that original underground non-huge corporation feel. i havent had my name that long but all my friends joined back in 2005 and i browsed a lot and i kind of miss the old ns. the main page takes years to load these days with all the ads plus the video player (although i like the video player).

right now my screen has a university of phoenix ad and one of those scam credit score ones. i cant stand that. i dont mind all the skiing related ads and a lot of times i actually legitimately click on them and look around. those ns filler ones (the pong game, "we eat noobs for lunch") are cool too.

i was going to bring this all together at the end and make a great point and suggestion, but i got sidetracked about an hour ago and completely lost my train of thought.

yea but seriously dude, id love to donate a bit of money to NS too, but getting rid of these ads and takin members donations doesnt put NS in the budget they need.

thats why theres ads.

if they want to do sick things like broadcast live events like playstreets and usopen they need more than member donations.

if you really hate the ads, someon made a thread on how to get rid of them i guess. or block them more like

Hah well its extremely wrong of us to ask you guys to just click on the ads. Thats a huge no-no in the world of online advertising... and things like mass numbers of clicks happening in a calculated period of time looks super suspicious.

What really helps a website is when you're visiting it, look at the ads. If there's something that you're kind of interested in, click the ad and go check out the advertiser's website! Don't just click for the sake of clicking... see what the advertiser has to offer!

I hate these ads probably more than you guys do. These ads are simply a temporary solution to generate a bit more revenue, seeing as we're spending a LOT of money this year to bring you all this cool shit.

The next step is to garner much more industry support, and some large corporate contracts as well, but all more targeted stuff that is of interest to you guys.

Yeah exactly! It'd stick out like skiers thumb if there was all of a sudden huge amounts of clicks. Always best to just look at the ads and click on the ones that you're interested in!

totally. but seriously, who is clicking on my ad above right now? ... 'WIN A HARLEY ROAD KING'

did some company seriously pay NS to put ads like THAT on here?

well if ur gettin $ then i guess thats good.. but seriously. that would be dope if more skis shops and companies and summer camps advertised here so we could get rid of teh dumb ones and Id be clicking more ads like the EC ones to check out gear

Here's the deal.....i would click on the ad's im intrested in.....but i only seem to get Phoenix University ones.

problem 1. There's no snow in Phoenix, not that i know of anyway, actually there could be.....is there?
problem 2. i live in scotland, im not intrested in phoenix university.

Yeah see you can get your education online WHILE you ski! I mean come on can't get much more targeted than that!

..........pwned anyone?

looks like actually clicking on it wouldve made a difference and made me learn something new

the company i work for is investigating Ad Click Fraud right now... and doing what you are proposing im sure those companies would as well..

The best thing is be like me. I have an OCD right index finger, and I probably click on 3 ads a day without even trying, shit sometimes I even read what pops up. Just click em a bit more, and maybe we see a few less in the future.

I think we can all agree that more industry related ads would be better for all of us though, I mean I think NS should do what it needs to in order to pay the bills, but I like to think you guys are at least trying to get back to the point of all ski ads all the time. Seeing as if the industry is doing well NS may do better as a direct result.....

this add confused me

im not really saying donations are the answer. i like most of the new features, so i cant really say i want less ads. at the same time, there are a lot of media resources out there and i kind of miss the days when ns was primarily a forum and the budget was small enough that donations helped, at least a little.

its great that the skiing industry is growing and doing well, but i feel like its generating more and more "artificial money" as it goes mainstream. what i mean is that by focusing on ad-related revenue on all levels, which only exists because companies like redbull are riding a wave of popularity and can afford to do so, we're kind of creating an addiction the the general public's interest. in a few years, if and when pro skiing is no longer talked about by 10 year old non-skiers, there will be a pretty big void as all that's built up has its funding pulled out. im not saying riding the wave is wrong, but i think a lot of companies are pulling away from a tight core that should continue to generate ideas and revenue from the heart of skiing.
