IDEA-New era of skiing?

Afterbang was kind of a snowboarding movie about having fun when riding, enjoying it with friends and all, maybe greatest snowbording movie of the past year and very different from the other one, but it hasn't change the view of snowboarding and the making of other movies...

ya im going to jail with a baby in my tummy too.

ur all just mad because I made a valid point about a vapid thread.

none of this is new, most of you just havnt seen it before.

I neevr said the movie was bad... or did i? hmmm.

either way, YOUR FACE IS PLAYED OUT!

oh and if Im nicole richie, Im still way richer and more popular and famous than you are.

anything else?

dude, are you serious..like why you gotta kill the vibe..you're the only one on here that seems to create controversy...your like one of those kids on NS who lurks around trying to start shit..hence why NS gets shit a lot..it's kids like you who make unsupported meaningless comments that lack in any type of intelligence, substance, or creativity that hurt the reputation of NS. Your face is played out? Really? I don't expect people on NS to be geniuses or anything, but c'mon, my IQ dropped ten points just reading that...

Why do people liek you get so pissed at someone who has a different opinion?

I never said it was a bad movie, or the skiing wasnt rad did i?

but no, I dont think it is ushering in a new era of skiing, or creating a quote unquote "new genre".

Those guys, and many many many other downhill speed shredders have been doing that shit for years, and now people who didnt get it before are starting to now? COme on!!!!!

Ya the abortion thing was pretty harsh, but it wasnt like the post had any intellegnce. Oh wow, buttering on superfat skis in powder and having fun. woopie.. go ski for christ sake!!!! People like me dont give NS a bad name, NS gives NS a bad name. NO one wants you to have a different oppinion, no one can have a discussion, because oh my god, this is the internet, and my run on sentence is making me dizzy!!!!!!!

get over yourself. I went and jibbed this morning, when is the last time you shredded anything?

Im out there doing it, and youre wishing you had the energy to understand how pointless your argument is.

Halla back!

The movie isn't going to change the vibe in skiing. That is generally agreed upon. The movie does have the ability to alter the way the current crop of movies are produced.

And to say that this thread hasn't had any intelligent discussion is quite to the contrary. However, your one-line comment added the unintelligent banter that you so described.

ha...when was the last time i skied..well, it wasn't yesterday..sorry but it's 93 degrees here..lil tough...but I did get back from whistler a few months ago, and clocked in 142 days this season..hopefully that pleases you seeing as we need to dwindle down our argument to how many times people skied...oh, and i'm not making fun of you for your opinions, it's nice to have someone who doesn't agree with everyone, but you don't need to harsh on people about it and insult them..there's no reason to stoop to that level dude, and it just chaps me because it's unnecessary...if you went skiing yesterday, shouldn't you be in a good mood? I Know i would be...

ha, and thanks for the props guys on the thread..i'm stoked you guys are in here sharing super interesting info..i love coming back to my dorm and reading what you guys wrote.,.stoked for sure

actually it was this morning.

aaaaaaaaaand yes, yes I do.

I didnt start anything, remember that. all i said was this thread should be aborted, its super lame.

I wansnt expecting to be drilled with the "im the problem" replies.

sorry!

new era? pollard and pep have been doing this for years, not to mention the fact that snowboarders have already done this. gah

true true..but it's never been put together like this ya know...like whenever you get to pollards part in push/pull its so sweet and you want more but then your on to some crazy big mountain part (which is sick too, don't get me wrong) so it's just nice to have a movie of how they ski instead of just a segment...oh ya and snowboard movies have always been tight..i just saw the new mac dawg movie...holy shit that was soo sick too!

Haven't seen Idea yet, but I've got to say I'm more stoked to see it than any other movie that's come out in several years. That being said, whether it changes the way movies are made, we'll have to see. I'm guessing a lot of the feel from this movie comes from there being just three exceptional athletes, and unfortunately for most ski film companies, having just three skiers in a flick isn't going to pay the bills sponsor-wise.

From a creative standpoint, filming three guys is ideal. But from a real-life standpoint of trying to make a living making ski movies, unfortunately it won't fly for long. So I don't expect a lot of filmmakers being able to follow suit. Plus, if every ski film company did go that route, there would be a lot of super sick pro skiers out there out of a job, back to banging nails because there wasn't room in any film crew.

wow, i def didn't think of it that way..that would suck, cause even now there are kids out there who kill it who aren't even noticed...super good point man, props

what makes the segments awesome for me (besides the EPIC soundtrack) is how it shows the progression of each session. everyone's shots interlaced like that with no name titles and whatnot... love it

Sorry to say but people have been skiing like that for some seasons now. this is the first attempt to accurately document what the skiers want to see instead of the "money booter" spot that every crew has to build a jump on to get "the shot". Any big mtn style ski area, ie-jackson,alta,baker etc... this type of skiing has and will be going down for quite sometime. its just more fun to hit airs without the need of a booter or any shaping. idea is skiing the mtn the way its meant to be ridden.

Well, I don't think we're going to see ski-porn style movies go away anytime soon if at all. They still have a spot and a purpose, and we all still enjoy watching some good ski-porn to get us amped on some tricks.

Hopefully we will have 2 seperate genres and we can enjoy the artistic quality and entertainment of both.

I think it is because you are a female-noob who actually conveys good solid, well thoughtout responses who gets the industry and understands how things go, and can actually communicate without coming off like a shithead or a moron.

i dont think the point is to make other film companies follow exactly what iberg is doing Level 1 has there rails and poorboyz has their superstars...its just to make people realize there are different ways to put together a movie instead of the rider part/first,last segment deal

YESSSSS IT FINALLY CAME IN THE MAIL!!!!

too bad im leaving for soccer practice in 2 minutes

ha, true...but i'll take the compliment...plus i think it's the second thread i've ever created...so i can't be a NS nerd quite yet...

I just got my copy in the mail. Just watched it once through. Holy fuck. That is all. Need watch more!

its cool and everything, but why do these guys keep trying to bitchslap the seriousness out of park skiing. it reminds me of when i played soccer on the schoolyard in grade 3 and the kids that were losing right at the end would stop trying, then say that they didn't even try all game and would have won if they did. I did that once, it totally works.

p.s stop posting RX-IV

your right, you don't even need to go on this site because you already know everything.

Couple things i've learned from this thread.

No poles can be steezy even though its usually gay.

Idea is worth the money or if it isnt it doesnt matter cause resale value is hot.

Skijunkie is an attention whore, but she's a chick on LPs so she gets some street cred.

Aborting the baby of skiing, even if it is just a dumb thread, is probably not a good idea.

The soundtrack is unbelievably sick. Cali P song is super gay though, lalala lalala lalala lalala lalala whooowhooowhoooo.

ouch..attention whore...i was almost pissed till i read that i get some street cred...i'd say reading your profile your a bit desperate to get sponsored and think your sick...but your on XXL's...so i guess its ok..

true statement. I think there is always some rider at all the top big mtn resorts who just skis, nobody ever films them, they just kill it becuase thats what they like to do. a prime example is pete proos at alta. typical ski area employee just pushing the limits, ie sage who came from alta as well, mind u pete was a dishwasher too. hardly any of u are goin to know pete, but if you do, then u know the kind of skier I am talking about. the kind who doesn't give a fuck what people think, they just go and do it.

WORST FUCKING MOVIE EVER, SOME PARTS WERE FORSURE MEGA DOPE BUT I LIKED MOST OF THE BONUS FEATURES BETTER THEN THAT ARTSY FART EXCUSE OF A MOVIE.... IF YOU LIKE COLLECTING PICASSOS AND KNITTING THIS MOVIE IS FOR YOU...

it might be, its pretty crazy how in one year skiing progressed that much in that way. my snowboarder friend watched it and he said, skiing just went from being way behind snowboarding in backcountry jibbing to way ahead of snowboarding in a year. and its true.

YES.

Idea documents a change that's been happening for a little while now, and presents it as an IDEA to a wider audience. I think it might be a milestone in time, this is where the two directions in which newschool skiing was heading finally part. This is creative skiing.

Some will hate, some will imitate, but hopefully most will stop seeing skiing as a bag of tricks you need to practice to impress, and start seeing it as something ridiculously fun with so many opportunities to be unique. This movie is excellent. It will be the soul of skiing for the season to come, no doubt.
