Idea: Midwest Ski Camp

Okay, so I've been thinking about what it would take to have a ski/snowboard camp around here. PFC is super super sick, but it's also pretty far away for anyone from wisconsin and minnesota. I want to try and make something happen at Cascade... I want it to be the vibe of spring jam and superpark, but with more of a focus around learning tricks and trying new things. I've been a coach and a camper at quite a few PFC's so I know what it takes to do something like this. What I want to know from you guys is.... How much would you pay for a weekend camp (option of paying for one day or two days)?... I want to make it really cheap, because I also know it sucked paying $150 for PFC. Would you be interested in coming? What would it take to get you to come? And just what are your thoughts on a laid back weekend ski camp?.... Like one big progression session. Obviously this wouldn't happen this year, but I want to get some feedback from newschoolers before I pitch the idea to anyone.

Word... I want to pitch something epic like that... and if they think that is crazy and out of the question i want to scale it down to a 2nd to last weekend, close the park off for just campers, and have a nice jump, a couple smaller jumps for learning, and a bunch of rails set up type of a thing.

Yup! But I would think it would be similar to the event insurance we purchase for the midwest open... but I could be completely wrong. We'll see.

late season would be awesome. I would love to coach on rails. and ya some good sized jumps and smaller ones would be perfect. I would pay 100 dollars for to days and 60 for one. that would include food lift and snow.... NO GAPPERS

that would be so sick if you could put that together, i would go forsure.... and as far as price goes the cheaper the better... but i dont think price would matter as long as it wasnt crazy expensive

wats up with not having pfc at cascade anymore. but i'd b in as long as there was a jump and pay any thing like 100 for both or 50 for 1.

For just having a place to ski this year, Blackjack in the UP of Michigan is supposedly keeping up a jib park through May. They have all this snow built up for their jumps so they plan to just push it over to the rail line. I can't promise that that will actually happen but if it does I know we will be there every weekend and I would love to see another skier sometime haha.

I would go to a camp depending on what was there. If its 50 bucks for one rail then no but if its a legit setup and that then for sure! No gapers please hahah!

Yeah Drew I helped set up the park at the first PFnC and was a coach at the second one... and I've coached/dug and been a camper at 2 of the PFC's down at Perfect North. I definitely have a good idea of what putting on the event would take and how the set up would look like. Basically it would be the same thing as PFC, but I would try and make it a little cheaper and I would try to fix some things they messed up. If this happens it will be super legit... I don't want to half ass anything. I just want to find out if kids are interested in something like this.

totally in but i know that you can probably get a lift opened just for the camp because our ski team does that and it costs like 250 for a day or something. You could open the one on North wall and put a huge kicker at the bottom and maybe a couple of rails and maller jumps in North park. just an idea.

the only problem is that i doubt they plan on putting the park back over their so all the snow will be pilled up in the north park. Although i agree that would be awesome.

i would be in

get cascade to like put it on old super park the week after it closes and sense were paying it shouldnt really be a problem with insurance esspecially sense its closed

luke...a few suggestions..
the only way we have gotten away with pfc is to offer coaching.. you have to convince the ski area that this coaching is helping to make their terrain parks safer in the long run. plan on doing a orientation with terrain park ettiquette and procedures this goes a long way
volunteers.. get everyone to volunteer.. cat drivers.. food prep.. coaches.. diggers.. lift attendants.. trade these volunteers for hours on the hill.. tom, tad, stephen, and I all volunteer our time for the weeks it takes to setup pfc.. it goes a LONG way to make sure the ski area knows its personnel costs will be low. (cat drivers are the most expensive.. so be sure they want to do it for free..)
trade/get sponsors.. get your ski areas food providers on board to donate food.. try to get the fuel providers to give you some fuel for the cats.. we burn a ton of money in build costs.. talk to anyone you can about donating money or goods to give away.. and if anyone does give you anything.. thank them.. A LOT.. send letters, talk about them at camp etc..
coaches... to get enough people to come.. you need to have stuff for the advanced riders.. which all your coaches want to hit.. you almost need a coach supervisor (stephen in our case) just chasing coaches and making sure they are teaching.. the younger kids that need coaching are usually terrified of asking for help.. you also have to find them and put them with a coach.
features.. have at least 4 boxes/rails that are ultra beginner.. they will get the most use by far.. and at least one ultra small jump.. everyone loves them.. and you can learn damn near anything on them..
Insurance..we have to convince perfect north to keep paying premiums for the normal season until pfc is over.. and i think we end up getting special event insurance as well.. that by itself is pretty expensive..
i am sure i will have some more suggestions after next weekend when pfc7 is here and i am doing all these things...

there would be barely any snow left in may... and definitely not enough to build legit features or have it lift serviced. Not to mention, it wouldn't happen anyway this season. It needs to be planned out more, insurance issues, management, etc.

Yeah, definitely not something that would happen this year. And word clint I'm stoked you're on board with this... that's huge.

I think it'd be awesome if you guys managed to get something like this organized, and I'd love to come up and check it out. I had a blast when I came up for PFnC2 a couple years back.

id basically do what the pfc north did and id pay the same price to but wed obviously have to have small jumps at cascade but it would still be sick
