all things have either been changed or new. it is an up to date film of where the sport is going.

GOOD JOB EVERYBODY INVOLVED WITH IDEA

Explain the clothes part... they're wearing outerwear... last time I checked that's what people have been wearing for years now....

Maybe just a revolution in BC but not anything else. BC is a small part of skiing, and no part for alot of us.

bc is a small part of skiing? where do you think skiing came from? some kids backyard and a drop in ramp...

BC the kind shit thats in the idea trailer is a small part of skiing to alot of people on this site. Alot of people dont have the chance to ski out of bounds, and that makes it a smaller part of newschool skiing. It maybe in most big films becuse it sick, but for most people it is out of reach becuse of money, time, and lack of snow in alot of places. The largest skiing pop is in the NewYork city area, and with the east haveing little BC along with little snow its a small part of skiing to most people.

but it works. look at how successful warren miller movies were back in the day. little/no newschool skiing, just bc with guys like glen plake. obviously it can attract people.

People watch BC becuse 90% of skiers dont have the chance to ski it. Just becuse its in all these big movies dosent mean millions of people are out there shreding lines in the BC. When you look at the amount of people that ski, and then where they are skiing its a small % that in doing BC. 90% of people that ski are shreding groomers and then watching other people ski BC.

BC is big in movies, but 9/10 day skiers arent going off the trails.

uhh i gotta agree about no poles being lame but the skiers in Idea are good enough to do what they want, I just hate it when I see some 14 year old park rat rockin no poles just because he saw pep do it

so would i unless the three riders were andy, pep and pollard...or candide, jon, tj, t hall, vanular and maybe a couple others

^no one is stopping anyone from learning saftey and using their feet. Sure most skiers and snowboarders will never have the chance to go to ak, but sooo many pass chances by.

On the some of the best pow days at stowe last year i would hear numerous snowboarders(skiers as well)that typically ski park and guess what? Where they going to get the goods? Nope.

no poles are really lame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aside from that most def the best looking out of the 3 really rad lookin flick crazy follow shots. the other two buy the way suck really hard and makes me angry that i didnt throw out my skis in 1995

^why does no poles suck? Poles were a necessity to initiate turns back when skis didn't have sidecut. Now we can carve. Whats the point of spending money on useless items??? dare I say you are concerned with your appearance to other people??? My what a materialistic poor idealist soul you are.

I will argue that poles are nice when ascending hills. Other than that...they are a crutch upon which modern skiing as we know it is built on...

i use my poles all the time. if you dont you were tought how to ski the wrong way. and in lift lines when there is no room to skate. there are many reasons for poles other than because skiis didnt have edges 50 years ago

first, reread what you wrote, and realize it makes no sense. second, by skiing the wrong way, i'd assume you mean anything thats not taught by PSIA? i got bitched at for skiing backwards during my PSIA clinic. there is no right or wrong way to ski. forwards, backwards, sideways, poles, no poles, sliding rails, bonking barrels, its all skiing.

looks like a sick movie! im gunna be buying it for sure..i still dont like the whole NO POLES thing, i have tried it and it was okay but i prefer poles still, it helps me keep my balance...

Exactly why skiing without them is such a progression. It's different...like doing things left handed ( if you're right handed), it feels weird at first, but it helps you become more rounded and generally a better skier.

the no poles thing is really a personal thing, itll never be completely excepted. i try it every now and then just for kicks, but im never going to drop my poles for good.

the only issue i have with it is that its so rare that it looks good, tom wallisch, pep and andy are really the only ones who ive seen that can pull it off. but if it feels good, do it.

im going to say that's just an east coast bias, because just in the PNW alone there is a large skiing population between portland, seattle and vancouver areas, and large number of them ski pow, and a fair share of that take it to the BC and shred lines between storms.

I hated skiing without poles until last sat and sunday. I had two of the best days of skiing this year without poles, i'm a firm believer now. It's soooo much fun, it just takes a while to get used to

totally agree, I used to hate on it so much, but after trying it, I can see why people like it so much, it's way fun.

hmm. here's some advice from someone on the inside. When resorts look at customers, very little if any traffic is talked about from a park perspective. Yes it's one of the top ways to market the resort in this new age of action sports and such. but 90% of your skier traffic goes off the trail. They want access to trees and access to hike-able terrain. They want to come up from the duldrums of daily jobs and be able to push themselves on natural terrain. This section of the market you speak of, terrain parks, is a terribly small percentage of skiers compared to the overall traffic at a resort. There were alot of discussions about this in the thread about the guy that won his lawsuit against summit. You may live on the east coast, but you should probably pack up and come out west, by yourself, or with your family, whatever your situation is, and experience what the rest of us experience.

And I totally agree with the person that mentioned all the people in the parks on a pow day. I'm thinking of putting a sign up that says pow day, parks closed till noon. Why people would want to ride the park on a day with 4 feet of new snow that fell overnight boggles the mind. but to each their own i guess.

oh, and good job on the movie guys. I'll purchase a copy when I get money back into my account...

of the three flicks that pbp has hand in idea looks like the coolest. the other two are just lame boring generic looking pieces of shit!

look money i have been on the earth 21 years which isn't very long. but long enough for me to get a kick out of the fact that those 21 years that have shaped my "soul" you feel you can through the anonymity of the internet pass judgment based on a couple of phrases i posted just to get little shits like you all riled.

p.s. i never spent any type of money on poles.

im not overly impressed...just looks like a pow movie with fat skis... Theres a reason they dont have to use poles, its cause the skis are so wide and the rocker make it so you dont have to put as much effort into your turns. you try and ski waist deep powder on a pair of p.e's with no poles and i gurantee you you'll have different results.

I guess im talking the over all east coast pop, I dont know the stats for the west but I know a fiar amount for the east. Most people that ski in the east ski on the trail, there is a small percentage that goes into unmarked areas and into unmarked trees. This is becuse most of the people only go skiing around 5-8 times a year. There is also all those first timers who for sure arent going off the trail.

I think when i commented on this treand i was looking more at the macro of skiing, and looking more at the day skier.
