Idea for Dealing With Newbies:

Ive noticed alot of hate on newbs on NS and its not always unwarranted, but you ve got to give them a chance and here's their 'chance'. An automated message is sent to them the first time they log in explaining how NS works, NS ethics, and a short tutorial (Written by an intelligent surly NS veteran). If they are still idiots, at least we gave them a chance to be competent and they wont have an excuse for it. Feedback?

 
it sorta sounds like a good idea but i think everybody is too lazy to put forth such effort for some shitty ass noobs

I dunno I guess it would be nice if all new members got an automated welcome message that had guidelines in it. Maybe to their email or something, I get that for almost every other site I register for.

Of course this may already be in place seeing as a registered a shitass long time ago and it may have been in place then and i just don't remember.

 
yeah, i was a newbie once too, actaully not all that long ago, but i wasnt in the frum till recently so i neva experience any hate, but ive seen alot of shit directed to newbies just coz they dont no everything that goes on in the site and they ask questions and sound ignorant to us who no what were doin, and askin is the best way to find out, ppl shud lay of it abit, or get suspended for a week if they do it to much.........i dunno, but we probs shud do sumthing

 
all the newbs under 500 posts have to stay on a 'training site' with all the other newbs...then they can pass a test at 500 posts to graduate to the official site

the hysterical thing is that some newbies as you call them aren't even new and that just makes ppl who rip on them clearly appear as the snobs they are....snobs who for some reason feel threatened by new ppl. i always find it interesting when ppl say 'get out of here you haven't been here long enough' or whatever. whatever happened to giving ppl a chance.

try not to be such elitists and give ppl a chance....that is unless they are complete idiots and then please rip them apart.

but on the side: why this site tolerates ppl like atlski and the racists is beyond me. that is who you should be complaining about.

NS is like a frat of old, when you first join you dont know anything and there is a hazing period untill you do something validating and get accepeted and stop being an f-in newb

newbs are a little over hated on i think. the things they say may sound dumb sometimes, but just cuz there not quite sure whats goin on with the site. we were all there once, give em a break

Ya true there are a lot of newbs on this site who are complete idiots, but its not good to generalize them, ive seen extremely intellegent posts and threads made from kids under 50 posts.

no no no no no no no.....i joined this site along with EVERYONE else on here, and figured out how it works, how the threads work and their 'rules', and just the overall mood of this site, they dont need a tutorial or a walk-thru to tell them how to do it....

I made my first post the first day on the site I was here (not that long ago. I'm actualy frightened at how quickly I got my post count up... I have no life) But never went through a 'hazing' period because I never made any really stupid comments. As long as they act smart, newbs should get along just fine. If they jump on the site and start acting like idiots, they deserve whatever they get, whether you're a noob or you've got 5000 posts.

yeah, its about how u act, but think about it, some of them are really imcompetent, they dont no how to do bearly anything, but i fiured it out easy, and lots of ppl i no figurd it out easy too

ive noticed its often the ones that are asking how do u post pictures and shit like that who get lots of shit, it takes like 1minute to rite them a msg saying go into this and clik that then its all easy, just coz u no what to do, give them a break, just coz they dont no how to use a computer as good as u and dont no how to use this site as well either, cant u just tell them how to do it, or say sumthing thats not abusive

 
actaully why dont we start a forum were noobs can ask whateva they want(have the link/how to get to that forum sent in their comfirmation email) where ppl wont abuse them and ppl that dont mind helping can go and answer questions

 
whoever said up further about 500 posts or below is newbs, thats wrong. not all people are post whores, and some people have been on here for 2+ years and dont have 300 posts. it all depends on the person. but i dont really see a problem w/ newbs, people just bring them up to be this 'big deal' when they arent really. the occasional annoyance will appear, but not THAT often.
