IDEA, and its impact on me...

So my buddy just gave me Idea last week and i've watched it quite a few times. Since watching it I find riding park - primarily rails - sucks, and bores the shit out of me. What sucks is that I live right near Ottawa on the east coast and have never skied powder deeper than a foot, so i'm waiting for my chance to get out this winter to ski some sweet B.C. I know this is yet ANOTHER Idea thread but i thought i'd express my feelings...
 
when i stand at the top of the park and im bored of doing my normal tricks..i just zone out and something creative pops into my head. i dont really need idea

This will generate KILLER hate but in my personal opinion, rails are getting worse and worse. I honestly find that all this 270 on sw up pretzel 270 is actually kind of funny to watch and doesn't really have much style or originality to it. Word to hand plants and new stuff like that because its really fun and fells cool to innovate. Maybe Im just getting bored of park and need to try something new...
 
i feel ya man, possibly the most fun ive ever had skiing was on backcountry trail with 1-2ft after last years valentines day storm. but that was a pretty rare thing to happen, so riding park is just another way of getting myself more experienced moving my body around with two planks on my feet while i wait for that next pow oppurtunity.
 
i cant wait to try them, and then do the exact same thing... i am especialy ready to try some hand drags...
 
i still have lots of fun hitting rails but its true, and y'know today i saw 3 kids do the exact same thing on this box one after the other and they looked like such speds

probably the funnest thing i did today was trying hand drag 180s on this roller at the bottom of the hill like i know they looked like crap but it was great to do something different
 
I tried one up and over this mushroom of snow on top of the rock. My hand just went through the snow on top and the clod of snow split in half, and I decked my back on the rock under it. I saved my new skis tho.
 
so youve never rode anythign deeper than a foot and you have a sir francis bacon icon.... interesting...
 
funny, i live in the west and ski very similar stuff to what was in IDEA, yet i found it boring. Believe on teh other hand, was great.
 
yeah i was thinking about that today. all my boys were hiking one fucking flat bar to get some shots or some shit and i was like how are you not bored as hell? i love hitting rails but theyre not fun enough to hike and session over and over again. theres only so much that can be done on a 12 ft. flat bar.
 
when i watch that i feel like goin to build a booter in to pow and hitten it it makes handrags look sooooo cool
 
I have been skiing without poles a lot more, and doing more handplants.

But I will still session a rail forever, I would love to do that right now.
 
its definitely a really cool movie, i dont think its really had an impact on the kind of stuff i do though...
 
its funny how all the kids saying "be different" in this thread all talk about how they were all trying hand drags...

sheep insulting sheep... i like it.
 
i find this hard to believe(pun intended), i thought what was done in idea was much more progressive then some of the skiing in believe. I liked seeing the IDEA crew pushing switch pow skiing, and switch hits, i didn't see much of that if at all from tanners movie. both were fun to watch, but id replay idea over believe fo sho'.
 
i agree, regardless of the skier, 270 on pretzel out is the same trick ive seen done many many times. there is no creative line choosing, just the same slide on the same rail. this goes for rails in general in my opinion. i never enjoyed doing them but i live on the east. so my backcountry in non existant. the mt Baker segment in Belive was unreal, ive always loved backcountry skiing especially through pines and pow like that.
 
so dont do rails?

you cant say this movie changed your life when youre not willing to make a change in your life.

You cant just come west and say you're a die hard powder junkie, then go home.
 
cuz thats not the IDEA they are going for.

besides they don't have Seth in their video.

Just wait... Pollard is always a couple years ahead of the mainstream progression... and if Pep really wanted to he could do a "gnarly line" just watch his 1242 seg
