Hey I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to put an ice screw in? thanks

Just put a little chip, (alot of the times not even required) in the ice then start screwing in the screw with your axe. If you have the new bd they already have a nob for you to use, I sugest that you buy these when you start getting good.

 
Ice clibing is dangerous man. Do it with an experienced climber to learn at first

yea it's definately a rush. I do it too. I'm just saying he shouldn't ask for advice on NS, but should get a real climber to show him how to do it.

Yeah, lol don't worry, I just learn things for simple knowledge on here so I don't look like a complete moron alot of times, I do alot of mountaineering stuff because I ski almost soley back country, so I spend alot of time in the mountains. I am just getting more into the vertical ice climbing tho, and have been out doing some pretty steep stuff with friends, but nothing thats over 30 ft with snow landing, and am familiar with rock climbing.

i think it would be way cool to go ice climbing...i dont know about rock climbing though

Yeah its just somethin to use up time and get the blood goin in the summer. We have this set of cliffs that are like 60 -70 ft tall and you can climb then but they are treally technical, and then there is like 20 ft deep watcher at the bottom

rock climbing is way easier and safer than ice climbing

yeah tell me about it, easpecially over water, I really wanna get more into ice climbing tho because I spnd like 3 days a week winter camping and I love the winter, so is a Piton just something you hook to an ice screw then? And have you guys ever trried climbing trees in the summer with your crampons and your tools?

No man, a piton is something that you hammer into a crack in rock. It's rock protection, not ice protection. I don't ice climb, but I think most ice screws have something that looks like a bolt hanger on them, so when you get them screwed in, you'd attach a quickdraw and clip the rope in like you would with a bolt.
