IAN COMPTON/ NORDICA

So after already seeing some Evan Williams Nordica Team edits, and one epiosde of the weak what do you guys think of seeing Ian Skiing with Nordica? I've definitely missed him in the last few TC episodes... but I think it was good time to switch things up for him. Nordicas got a strong crew, and Ian being the rail slayer that he is, was a great addition. I'm sure line misses him but they just got Rob Hule not too long ago and recently Sig Tveit.... Ians and unreal skier and is doing well either way.... what are your thoughts?

the only reason hes on nordica is because of evan williams. I still think line fit his style/personality better.

Haha, people are still butthurt over this?

Dude went with what was right for him, he got a better offer, he took it, anyone would. To say he "doesn't fit in with Nordica" or "he fit in better with Line" is pointless. "Fitting in" with a company doesn't pay the bills. Not too mention, he fits in perfectly with Nordica. Nordica is looking to expand their style/video part riders (hence Dale, Kieran, Shay, ect) and get away from having mainly contest pros (i.e. TJ and Schlopy), Ian has an incredible style and has one of the more popular/regularly updated webseries out there right now.

Nordica is the perfect place for Ian. They are trying to make a name for themselves in the east with rail skiers, who better to have than New England natives: Ian, Kieran, Jeremie, etc

Im not butthurt at all i was strictly talking about what was a better "fit" I love the fact evan williams has been stacking the nordica team with my favorite dudes and im recommending nordica skis at the shop. Im sure nordica pays out better than line but that is completely off topic as nobody ever brought money to the table until you did for no apparent reason other than the threads lately about people giving so much of a shit about money allocation in the industry. I simply feel that nordica is more styly while line is more technical and playful thus imo it fits ian better. Its more of a nudge too not a real strong opinion so feel free to disagree but you are in no position to call me butthurt over something that i hadnt even thought of until you mentioned it.

what would you say makes a certain ski fit someone's style?..if my good homie became tm of dope skis I'd probably switch it up

I wasn't necessarily directing that at you...it's the topic in general. This happened months ago, and for it to be brought up over and over clearly means people (not just you) are butthurt over it. It's a little self centered to think I was commenting towards only your comment (especially when I didn't quote anyone).

As for me bringing up money, it's again part of the topic, it's gonna come up. It's a well known fact that Line doesn't pay their athletes well (if at all) and that's why after people start making a name with them, they move on. This is not the first time this has happened to Line, and it's going to keep happening. It's nothing negative to Line, neither side has ever seemed to be upset when an athlete moves on. So if Line is happy for Ian that he's moved on (something they've posted before), why shouldn't everyone be happy for him. He's doing what he wants to do.

Ian does indeed have the ability to be very technical on rails, but lately has been focused on style. Ian has a pretty similar style to Dale and Lupe, a blend of style and tech, and both of them fit in perfectly with Nordica, so why can't Ian.

i kind of agree with you. but im letting it play out. hopefully his antics calm down some and we can begin to take him seriously.

Your right im such a self-centered pompous bitch for thinking your comment applied to mine...common stop exaggerating im sorry i shouldnt have taken it as a direct comment to mine but theres no need to jump to conclusions

considering we all said pretty much the same thing i could have replaced I with we and it would have made sense (obviously my opinions are only mine).

and i do agree with you on the last part that ian deff has more style now than he did a few years ago, but i lump him in with more of the yoke crew/tc than new intel

It's always odd when people talk about skiers and snowboarders leaving or joining sponsors like they're professional sports teams.

Ski companies have teams, much like professional sports teams. Ski companies profit off their teams much like professional sport teams. It is the same thing really so people treat it the same.

How would you guys at Saga feel if Tim or Wiley left Saga and went to Bloom? They would be switching companies and there for switching teams.

I don't think it's like a series of cheating and breakups. Both parties probably generally understand what is going on

why do people feel the need to pigeonhole skiers into a certain brand? does skiing a certain ski brand with a certain style of graphic determine what type of skier you are? nordica makes good shit, ian compton is a good skier, why is there any issue? dumb thread

The point I was trying to make was that people treat changing sponsors as life/career changing events. The person and the brands are still the same and will continue doing their thing.

Could someone do me a solid and tell me what pants Ian has been riding in those last edits, the Beige ones? I was told Tomahawk but I can't seem to find them

What diffrence does it make? Its just a diffrent top sheet on the ski. Dont bitch at me but most skis are about the same. They all accomplish the same task. Ian wanted to go to nordica for his own reasons. Let it be

Jason levinthal(co founder of line skis) and Ian compton leave line skis a couple months apart..... coincidence, i think not!!!!

He just fits the Line personality though. It's all skiing for fun and being buttery and making sick grinds at line. He will be missed.

this thread is now about Mount Snow locals

Saturday or Sunday

Compton did the gnastiest switch on one footer on DFD (front foot too)

Don't believe what the media tells you, its a conspiracy. Compton will soon be taking his new van to Mexico to hide until it all blows over.

dude is by far the most humble skier in the park.

like congrats kids for progression and stops to get others fallen poles, ski etc

but the skiiers represent the brand/ the brand represents the skiiers... and I believe that it IS life/career changing events. Sure Ian Compton is still gonna do his thing, but we all saw him progress with Line and so far I haven't been impressed with Nordica (sowwy it's the truth).

For example here's the most recent Weak with just a handful of shots (couple 1 footers?) Not even close to the amount of footy the old weaks had.. Seems like he's more interested in cinematic shots and acid possibly?

The Weak. (Killington Take II) from ian compton on Vimeo.

speaking of the weak there should be a new one today; why the hell isn't there a countdown anymore hmm?

Only Killy was open the past two weeks, and only with a few rails. He had more skiing shots in the first weak. It would be boring to see another 3 minutes of one guy on 3 rails. I for one enjoy the cinematic shots. I feel that they bring the edit together as a whole, and give it a distinct "feeling" that I don't get from most ski porn. For example, I felt that the first episode from this year captured "Vermont"-especially in that late fall season, perfectly. And The Weak comes out on Tuesdays. Today is Monday (unfortunately).

You're joking right? It's November dude, he hasn't even started winter with his new sponsor yet. How about you calm down and wait a bit before passing judgment.
