"The vibe at the camp was what our culture is all about. I wish every kid could experience a session at Windells at least once in their life."
I couldn't agree more! I have never been to Windells as a camper but ALWAYS wanted to go so bad. This year I got the chance to go out to stay with the Windells coaches, film and live the Windells life for 2 weeks. It was totally unreal. The facilities are crazy, I'm not just talking on mountain.
When you see where the actual camp is its aesthetically overwhelming; there is so much cool shit around you don't even know where to begin. The entire Windells campus is one massive skatepark, you cannot even begin to understand the scope of this unless you've seen it in person. I cannot imagine what it would have been like to go to Windells when I was 13-14. Camp Food was surprisingly high quality, I had low expectations and was impressed with the Heshin's culinary skills for dining hall style food.
When I first arrived at Camp I kept hearing about this "BOB" fellow, it was spoken of like he was a legend. But I truly didn't understand what or who Bob was until I saw it. B.O.B. is a massive indoor warehouse filled with a gigantic skate park, mini ramp, trampolines, foam pit, ping pong table and foosball. I'm not much of a skater but if I was I would've been in heaven if I was.
Jebus I haven't even mentioned the on-hill facilities yet, which says a lot about the Camp; so much to do off-hill, your not too sad when the lifts close. The jumps and rail setups are kept in excellent condition for summer skiing. I was expecting serious slush on inruns and rails with shotty take offs. Windells diggers are absolutely on point and it shows. Jumps were perfectly manicured and fast. Windells is up high enough on the mountain that your skiing on nice mid-winter-granular the whole time your up there.
Coaches. Goddamn. Windells Ski Program is stacked. Tom Wallisch, Liam Downey, Steve Stepp, Ben Moxham, Witt Sherman, Collin Collins & Mike Hornbeck. Not much more you really need to say about that. The present and future of skiing.
Now that I officially sound like a Windells advertisement I'd just like to say. I'm jealous of all of you that get to go to Windells. All I can say is that I wish I had been lucky enough to go when I was a grom. Everyone is absolutely stoked to be at Windells and it shows.
