I was a fireman this weekend

anyway so i thought i'd share this story with all of ya'll because i know you will all appreciate it.

I was riding in my roommate's car, on our way back from golfing. we arrived on our street, and I noticed a GIANT ploom of smoke about 2 streets down. I grab my roomates arm and say "go there!"

we get close enough to observe that it indeed, is a house fire. my roomate parks on the sidewalk, and we both jumped out of the car. bryce (roommate) and i, notice that there is no one here. no spectators yet. no one. bryce looks at me and says "lets do this man" and runs into the house. I follow about 5 feet behind him on the phone with 911. i give them the address and run into the house.

the smoke was unreal. and i mean unreal. pouring out of the house. literally. I couldn't see a foot in front of my face. the only thing i was able to see was about the last six inches to the ground. i could barely see my shoes. someone bumped into me as i was screaming into the house to see if there was anyone in it. i grab a guy and pull him out of the house. he says there are 3 more people in the house but they know about the fire and should be out any minute. i run back inside and trip on something soft. and i fall onto another soft thing. 2 people! almost unconcious they had made it to the bottom of the stairs. there was absolutely no air to breath at all. me and bryce both grab the people, pull them to their feet, and run out of the house. we then went back in screaming, for the last person. he bumped into bryce feeling along the wall, and bryce pulled him out.

we made sure that the people were absolutely positive there was no one else in the house. by now there were over 70 people outside watching. by the time everyone was out the house was completely engulfed in flames. out the front, and the back windows. it all caught fire so amazingly fast, that like i said, it was unreal.

police, firemen, ambulances hadn't even showed up yet and it was honestly the worst response time i could possibly fathom if i was a victim in an accident.

but looking back it was crazy because everyone in the house was a male ages 26-35, shirtless, tatted up completely, and very, very calm. the first person to come out of the house had a backpack. when i asked him who was in the house he told me while he was packing things into it, and leaving. he said "thanks guys" and left.

the other people we got out needed medical attention but they were breathing. very calm. i speculated they were very, very fucked up. on something.

then i started thinking about how long it took us to get on the first hole golfing. about an hour. i had to chace a ball across the road once. and all that stuff, leading up the the house blowing up when we were right there. and the only people there too. crazy. i saved people's lives on saturday. yet i bitched about waiting for golf. i will no longer think about the short term because everything happens for a reason!

well anyway. we heard the sirens in the distance and we were parked in front of a fire hydrant anyway. people cheered and we moved on with out lives. feeling a lot more solemn tho. i sat in the smell of the fire for the rest of the evening. had a couple beers, okay a few, and i couldn't help but be very proud of myself and my roommate.

the end

I like how they didn't even acknowledge you guys in their story, great reporting! Nice work with saving them though, props to that

yeah we didn't stick around for the news man. thats just something any neighbor should do for another. fuck all the bullshit

pic's or it didnt happen!!!!!!!

na dude thats so sweet. so many people would bitch out and freeze. u should feel proud of yourself man plus if you get a artical in the paper. one of my mates brothers was in the same situation but out of his face drunk walking home from town clubbing, didnt feel well cos he drank so much n just happened to walk the long way round to sober up a bit before bed. got in the same situation as you, so much respect....

as we left we saw the trucks go down the wrong street but we figured they went towards the back of the house. it took them way too long man. the house is comepletely destroyed.

Awesome story, +++karma.

But dude, imagine if you didn't get delayed at the first hole? Say you finished an hour early, and drove past the house BEFORE it caught on fire? crazy shit man

yeah it is nutz to think about. i would've arrived at my house an hour before the fire broke out, probably would've been stoned watching it on the news later. maybe hearing how 3 people died. it's a possibility.

Thats pretty sweet man, you had the balls to go in with out any fire gear. so much shit is burning the smoke can fuck you up. I am in firefighting school now and have been to and worked at house fires before, and they do go up quick. If the department in your area is volunteer dont expect a very fast responce time, they have other jobs to pay the bills. And if there home thye have to first drive to the fire house then get on the trucks after the call is toned out to them.

yea, that's def cool that you are in firefighting school. mad respect to you man.

as far as the response time went, i live in seattle, and the fire dept should have been there way faster. and they are def not volunteer.

i love how in the arcticle it says fire crews arrived quickly and they didnt..... you did such a good job man you should be so proud

the guy you saved loaded a bunch of shit in a backpack and then just ran off?

man... that was definately a meth lab

but still, way to be!

this reminds me of the outsiders for any1 that read it when ponyboy and johnny go into the burning church and save those kids.... anyways good 4 u man and mad props

def + karma

and keep us posted about the people in the house, if they get in trouble for drugs or anything like that

That's crazy. I've always wondered what I'd do in a situation like that. Hopefully something similar to what you did. The universe is gonna reward you soon. Props

believe it or not i think most people would do the same thing for sure. its crazy to think about. but would anyone really think twice? what would you do

dude that is an incredible story. and the fact that you didnt even wait for the news to claim that shit is hilarious. you probably shoulda at least stayed to tell the fire department what happened (if you didnt)

yeah but i think the reason that i didn't stay for the fire dept was because i didn't really care why it happened. it had nothing to do with me. i'm sure everyone else was able to tell them what happened. and if they lied. well they didn't lie to me.

dude, that's amazing and one hell of a story to tell. aside from that though you should be proud because that's one brave thing to do. halfway through the story with my mouth wide open I stopped and had to hit +karma haha.
