I want to move to Vancouver...

Next year. I've lived in Colorado my whole life and I want to do something different for a while. So I just have some basic questions...

How easy is it to get a work visa? Any experience? I was looking around here, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp, but am a little confused so any advice would be appreciated.

How much would I be looking for for an apartment? I would be cool with a studio if I lived alone or whatever if I can find roommates.

Is there a specific part of the city that is good to live in? (young, good bars around, not ghetto...)

How far is the drive to whistler? Is it easy to catch a ride? Any public transportation?

How easy is it to get a job?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ride to whis is and hour and a half to two hours, busing isn't hard and its about 30$, and i've never tried but theres a carpool thread in this forum.

near main street is pretty hip right now, but not main and terminal or hastings, westside is nice but expensive, can't really help you with this, and the other things i have no clue, good luck!

it is REALLY hard for americans to get visas. you pretty much have to come out, find someone to sponsor you to stay for the season, and then apply for a visa. or marry a canadian.
but, vancouver is a bangin city. the north shore is fucking awesome but its expensive to live on. you can live in east van (not the terribly sketchy part) for pretty decent. right now we have like a foot of snow :) it rains a lot. like, a lot a lot. not your average winter. the city doesn't really have 4 seasons, its got like spring, summer, and wet. and for some reason it shuts down when it snows and the city has like 1 snowplow.
downtown is awesome, there is always something going on. the people are friendly. everyone is willing to help and summer here is awesome. i hope you can make it work!

well he is absolutely right on the asian part, they arent all smelly though, just some of them, about as many as any other people who are smelly
