i need to make a collapsible aluminum starting ramp for urbans. i plan on making it in welding class in school. if anybody has hints, tips, pics, or plans, anythign that could help me when building it please share.
Ah well there ya go. As for rust. its a drop in ramp doesn't matter? And if you use the right steel and don't use a shit ton, then its not too bad. But make sure to use some thick alu. though.
well this is interesting cause in winter the aluminum is going to get very cold and if you get any moisture in there itll make ice and such so everything is going to freeze together so it kinda defeats the purpose of having a collapseable one.
i used wood for mine haha, it was so fucking heavy and unwieldy that lifting it out of the truck was always like 'hmm I wonder will this thing finally crush and kill one of us this time?"
yah my buddy connor built a pretty nifty collapsible one out of wood last year, but the actual platform you stood on was of the locking fold-out variety. i was always afraid it was going to drop out from under me and send me straight to the concrete onto my head
im not riding his backyard jibs this year unless he figures out a new drop in, im def not using that thing again, it's probably been rotting dangerously in his garage for months now
just get a decent sized sheet of aluminum, make some triangular supports, and attach them to the bottom with lockable hinges. that way it can fold up and fit in a car's trunk or something.
oh by the way, this thread reminds me. building a drop in is perhaps one of the only times I can remember using math I learned in school in a real life application. trigonometry worked perfectly.
