I want to learn more about skiing.

Do you guys know any forum or other website where I can learn more about skiing?

This could be vocab, tips for skiing, or jut learn anything about the sport and the equipment.

Anybody?

This is the website you wanna be in haha seriously it's the best. Under site discussion there's a sticky'd thread called the newb guide. Read through it before you post So you don't look like a dumb newb.

I'd recommend the trick tip forum to get familiar with things like grabs, rodeos/mistys/corks etc. and rail tricks.

Watch some edits, line traveling circus, ski movies, past x games shit. If you haven't realized yet, there's a huge video/ picture part of newschoolers. Check it out.

As for equipment, gear talk will have a lot. It depends on what you ride mostly. Pow/park/groomers. Shit like that. Some of the more popular company's are Armada, Line, 4frnt, on3p, saga(outerwear), k2, moment, atomic, liberty, surface etc.

Some skiers that come to mind are Tanner Hall, Candide Thovex, Will Wesson, Sarah Burke, Maude Raymond, Simon Dumont, Tom Wallisch, Andy Parry, Torin Yater Wallace, Alex Schlopy, Henrik Harlaut, Mike Hornbeck, Bobby Brown. Look some of them up, learn shit about them I guess. They're all pretty awesome.

Check out Eric Iberg's posts, of his Facebook. You'll get learnt. That guy knows a lot about skiing and has helped define our sport.

Hang around here for a bit, you should start to learn by osmosis.

Any particular questions you have?

It was scary as shit to click that

I agree, whenever anyone posts links to a site but doesn't state what it is, I instantly prepare myself for meat spin or something

If you want to learn trick names, watch Stept's Skate on Snow, they're all on Stept's Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/stept) a few pages back.

Op this is what a modern pro skier on his a-game is.

Last year was my first season so I can share some of what I used with you. If you're above this stuff I apologize, but hopefully someone will find it helpful.

You've obviously found this site. WTG. I subscribed to the trick tip cult forum even though I haven't really started playing with much of that yet other than a bit with nose butters.

I found this video series pretty helpful even though I didn't really agree with all of the instructions.

I hated that series' carving technique video - was caught up on this for way too long mainly because of this video, or perhaps better because of how I interpreted this video. I didn't find the mogul video or "powder" video particularly helpful either.

For carving I used this:

For moguls I found this as one site that was rather helpful [also remember backwards bicycle - ran across that somewhere and that helped a ton]
http://www.e4s.co.uk/docs/top-skiing-tips.htm

I used this for tree skiing, but I think it has good tips overall
http://www.freerideskier.com/html/trees-_chutes-_steeps_.html

but what really helped with tree skiing that was getting a pair of skis that could really support me rather than the rentals I was on and that pretty much took care of that. I'll probably use this for cornices and stuff next season.

Personal thoughts:

I found out that listening to really relaxing music helped me tackle more stressful situations. I currently prefer to listen to no music, but when I would pump myself up I would get nervous and too stiff with my motions. Calming myself down with music basically had the opposite effect and lowered my intimidation, so I do listen to music more than I used to now.

It was good for me to go through all of the reasons I could do a run or hit something that would make me nervous as well.

I'm also being very active this summer in the hopes that it makes me less likely to be injured and easier for me to learn new things while skiing.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot Gus you have overloaded me with info! You guys went a little overboard but that's ok.

What a welcome to such a cool website!

I've heard about this website called "newschoolers", it might just be about snowboarding only though.
