I want a sport bike

for some reason, ive recently decided that i really want a sportbike. anyone on here that owns one or knows alot about them that can chime in? is this just really stupid in college and i should wait till im outta college? i keep going back and forth between telling myself it would be fun as hell and telling myself it would be stupid and irrational. my dad had 2 harleys back in the day, so i know more than the average idiot about motorcycles in general, but i really dont know much at all. i think id just buy on craigslist (only way i could actually afford it), but is that just stupid too?

Well it would indeed be fun as hell and they are better than cars on gas. My dad had one before my mom made him sell it and they are definitely sick.

craigslist is definitely not a bad idea just bring along this check list and your old man (im assuming he knows a thing or two from owning a few bikes)http://www.amadirectlink.com/roadride/Riderresc/checklist.asp
I went through the same phase a few years ago, couldnt get sport bikes out of my head and wanted one so bad..but I knew too many people that had gotten seriously injured/killed riding bikes and decided to give up on going for one
The kicker is no matter how great of a rider you may be, there are millions of clueless car drivers out there with no driving sense and if they hit you odds are it will be really bad..I remember reading somewhere that 75 or 80 percent of motorcycle accidents are someone elses fault

thanks for the link

thats the thing tho, my parents wouldnt ever want me to have a sportbike. maybe thats why i want it so bad. so yeah, i definitely couldnt take my dad with. id prolly just have to show up one day with it and be like "oh this? oh yeah, ive had this for months."

he will kill himself on a ninja 250 if he dosnt have much riding experence

i will quote my dad when i inquired to him about sportbikes, "it is like a videogame, endless traction and power, you feel protected behind the windsheild when in reality, you are going 20 mph over what you thought you were and that corner is coming up rather fast".

if you don't want to kill yourself..yup. you sound like an arrogant teenager anyways " sounds boring" how is a ninja 250 boring ? you're learning how to ride a motorcycle. just for that remark you shouldn't even be riding one. 250's have power too. they also go over 100 miles and hour. don't say it sounds boring because its smaller and safer to learn on rather than going to a 600. youre gonna pop the clutch and youre going to fall backwards, guaranteed. you'll prolly even lay the bike down. you don't want a big bike to learn, i'd rather play it safe than have it wrapped around a tree and be in a grave. i learned on a ninja 250 and it was fun as fuck

Not if you had a fuckin hulk bike!

A 600 would still be too much for a begining rider. You will crash.

A 250 is awesome for comuting, they get great gas mileage, and they have some get up and go. Plus that hulk one was one of the few that actually looks cool.

i had a CBR600rr and loved it at first but i live in the hills of western MA and there isnt much for highway. so ridin around through town and small streets wasnt very fun when i couldnt open her up. i now own a suzuki DRZ400 supermoto and absolutely love it. great for rippin around town and pissin the tourists off.

If you do look at a bike from craigslist i suggest you see the bike in person before you buy it. find out how often the oil was changed and make sure it runs smooth.

good luck in your search

haha gotta play the role of ignorant 13 year old newschooler sometimes.

i like the thought of the 250 tho, its alot cheaper than a 600. i think im gonna go talk to someone at a dealership tonight or sometime this week

don't even think about getting bigger than a 250. im telling you a biggerbike is gonna fuck you off. hell with a crotchrocket get a supermoto i want one after riding them. funnest things to ride, quick as hell and easy to pull up. you wont get bored on a supoermoto

Waste of money, time, and lifespan. I have owned sport bikes in the past and all they are is a liability.

I hate them, I will take on risks as long as I am in control. There are way way way too many foolish or irresponsible drivers out there for me to ever own a sport bike again. Plus getting a sport bike is like hanging a douche bag sign around your neck, but hey it might get you laid.

When people see you on a bike they think you are racing them or something. Get a DH bike.

no...your a dumb ass. who would buy a 3k bike...then in a few monthes when they learn sell it and buy another...

dude, have you ever ridden SOMETHING with a clutch, quad, dirt bike anything? if so you will be good, just realize how much raw power you have...dont get anything over a 600...and be carefull. but i deff would like to see you get on it and as soon as you drop the kick stand down goes the bike hahahaha

dont be one of the 99.999% of sport bike owners with something like an R1 who cant ride for shit and just bought it to be seen and floor it every once and a while. get something slower, hell get some underpowered shitty 80's sport bike for like 700 bucks, take it to a track, learn how to ride it before you even drive it on the street, then go show up all the tools with their R1's. its stupid to own such a fast bike for the street anyway, you will never reach its full potential, you will most likely be doing about 50% of what the bike is capable of when you are riding hard. so get something without crazy limits, learn to get to those limits and how the bike handles at those limits, then maybe you can move to something faster. even though its kinda pointless since you will be having way more fun on something that you can actually drive hard.

DO IT!!

I'm going though the same phase right now! I finally took the class and just did it after thinking about it for a long time and I'm very happy I did. My dad always had bikes growing up and they are so much fun. Get a Harley haha. Of course, it's all personal preference but if you are going to be riding it a lot or long distances, get something that is more comfortable than say, a Ninja type bike, even if you do decide to get a Honda or something.

I'm pretty biased having been raised by a die hard Harley enthusiast but they are a tried and true bike. Start out with an 883 Sportster, that's what I did. They are nice looking bikes, light, easy to handle, and will still fucking haul if you so choose. And it sounds sick to say, "I ride a Harley". They are a bit more expensive, but it's easy to find ones from the 80's that look brand new. I just got an 02 and I love the thing. Even if you don't know a lot about bikes, you will learn over time.

Also, be ready for the insane amount of pussy you will be pulling. I've never met a girl in my life who didn't get all googly eyed at the sight of a guy on a bike. They love it haha! They always want to go for a ride.

Also, one last thing. Don't let the horror stories about accidents and stuff scare you out of getting one. Yes, they are dangerous and yes, no matter how careful you are there can always be some idiot who puts you in danger. But, stay alert and you will be fine. There are ways to make yourself more visible and all that shit. The best things in life always come with a risk!
