I think i might have insomnia

Has anyone ever experienced this? For the past year its taken me about an hour to get to bed, but now its taken me at least 4-6 hours to fall asleep, if I can even sleep at all. Within the past month i've pulled 3 unintentional all-nighters, other nights ill lay in bed at around 10-12pm and wont fall asleep until 4-6. This usually ends in me sleeping in until around 2-5 in the afternoon, and Im completely fucking exhausted the whole day, then the second I hit my bed I wake upand literally get jitters. The only times I fall asleep ok are when I have recently drank or smoked right before attempting to sleep. Any serious responses= +K because this shit is fucking fucked

Yeah it fucking sucks. I had insomnia due to some other factors in my life and I could not fucking sleep at all. I ended up going to the doctor and got a prescription for Ambien but that was only a partial solution. The thing that really fixed it was getting regular exercise and living a much healthier lifestyle. Try and ask your doctor, thats the best advice I can give.

Sounds like you need to shut your brain off, i have issues with this at times it happens to me like every couple weeks or so and i lay in bed for hours and cant sleep cause my mind is just racing, the best thing is to just try to clear your mind and you'll finally fall asleep. They key is to wake yourself up at the normal time the next day, then you'll sleep like a baby the next night.

been dealing with the same shit. try staying up all night and getting to bed the next night at like 10-12 to try getting on the road to a normal sleeping pattern.

Melatonin is gold for this stuff. I had similar problems as OP a few years ago. If melatonin doesn't help enough, then try smoking before bed. but that's a last resort, as it will inhibit REM sleep while you're high

Ribss is right though, these are only temporary fixes.

It can be a couple of variables... when I'd the last time you have caffeine everyday... some people may not realize that the caffeine from soda or tea can linger for hours..

Also its possible that you dont need that much sleep if you don't tire yourself out throughout the day. For ex, if I work out my body needs at least 7-8 hours of rest to feel good, but if I work all day I only need 5-6 solid hours to feel refreshed..

I had it pretty bad in the first yeah of uni but that's because I had a shit routine, was drinking a lot of alcohol and was barely doing exercise.

If you're waking up at 2-5pm then there's no way you'll be tired by 12 that night. You need to be waking up before 9am, not drinking any caffeine after midday and doing a decent amount of exercise in the afternoon/night. It also helps to drink a decent amount of water throughout the day.

Other things that help are milk before bed, I'll always have a pint of milk (as a shake) after the gym and then again before bed.

I don't really believe any drugs are needed unless it's a really serious case. The amount of cases of insomnia are increasing due to the lack of exercise that people take. People can't get to sleep because they've sat at a desk all day without movement and constantly chugging coffee and then wonder why they don't feel tired that night.

I can't get more than 6 hours of sleep in a night. I've woken up at 430am the past few days (just 4 hours of sleep) and just gone with it. Its ridiculous seeing people who sleep in until 2pm every day and just completely waste away the entire morning because they were lazy and didnt want to get out of bed.

I guess I don't really need sleep. Had insomnia in high school but I now have a bad paranoia of oversleeping things because of freshman year in college, so my mind forces me to wake up really early. Whatever.

'They say sleep is the cousin of death, so my eyes wide open'

Yo you're not fucked in the head cause of that I was the same.the only way id go to sleep early was by drinking and smoking, wouldn't even call it going to sleep...passing out seems more appropriate.

Otherwise just like you id sleep at 5 am and wake up at 3 and then have my system screw me over.

but seriously just wake up early,,, even if youfall asleep at 5, wake up at 12 max, next day wake up at 11 max, and so on till you wake up at 9.. you'll be readjusted I can almost promise.

goodluck

see a doctor. i never had much trouble falling asleep, but i'd wake up 8-12 times a night. pretty much every half hour.

i eat fairly healthy, exercise regularly, but i do drink kind of a lot of booze (3-4 nights a week). however, falling asleep or staying asleep was never really an issue for me throughout college, or 2-3 years ago. it was relatively new, within the last year.

initially the doctor didn't want to medicate me with anything serious (ambien) so he put me on something called trazodone, which in lower doses helps you fall asleep, is non addictive (from my experience, 3 months) and it helped me get back on a regular sleep schedule. now i only wake up once or twice a night.

just something to consider

Pretty much been having this the past week so this thread was great timing. What are people's thoughts on using z quil to get to sleep. Bad idea?

I'm gonna try some melatonin tonight and see if that helps, I'll post back if it helped for that guy who had the same problem

No need to resort straight to drugs.

You are most likely stressed.

Pair that with inadequate exercise, improper diet, and whatever you do before bed messing you up.

Work out for at least a couple hours a day, eat healthy, find some time in your day for yourself to de-stress, and give it a few days and you'll be sleeping fine and dandy. Bing bang boom, try this first and then if this doesn't work go see a doctor

Force yourself to wakeup at the same time every day (you can sleep in on weekends)

after a week or so your boilogical clock will be back in order. Its hard to do but coffee and breakfast can help. also, no naps!!

I work at a golf course and am up before 5am every day. i had the same problem as you OP,. During the school year i was taking all different kinds of meds to get to sleep. just go to the gym for an hour and wake yourself up at like 8:30

it works... plus, no computer or phone in bed

In order to fall asleep I would recommend a strong indica like grand daddy purp, or hindu kush. I smoke those herbs to get knocked out. If you eat a healthy portion of cannabis infused meds you will also fall asleep very nicely.

My friend has insomnia and has to smoke cannabis inorder to fall asleep.

consistent sleep patterns do help, as well as frequent exertion of energy (ample exercise). but my best friend has had insomnia since she was a child. she's had a lot of problems dealing with it, but she recently found some all natural stuff to help. so she works out i think 5 days a week, and bikes to work on nice days, and eats well, tries to maintain proper sleep cycles. and takes this herbal tea before bed, and i think has a pill to take after dinner. but it's all homeopath stuff you can get at the pharmacy.

Don't fuck with your sleep pattern too much, unless it's fucking with it by partying where you'll end up sleeping pretty much no matter what.

I've been in the same boat for a while, it gets really bad during summer. The one surefire cure I've found for it that works pretty much all the time is smoking weed. Just get stoned and when you start to burn out take another couple fat hits and drift off.

I feel like this is a joke kindado you really need a drug to sleep?

how about not sleeping for 36 hours...

try that

drugs are bad mkay

Also, light from your computer screen will keep you up. It's been theorized to surpress melatonin production because your body associates it with natural, daytime light. Not using the computer for ~30 minutes before bed could really help if you don't already do that.

Would be interested in knowing how I came to the conclusion that you are in fact a 12 year old?

if you work 8-10 hours, do shit around the house, run errands, play some sports, hit the gym, by the end up the day you're going to pass the fuck out. you're probably just a lazy video gaming shmuck who is in a state of perpetual rest. you need to tire yourself out. if you do that, trust me, you'll sleep.

I sometimes have trouble shutting my brain off at night as well. Try reading or meditating. A good wank always helps too. I sleep the best when I've had at least an hour of exercise during the day. I fucking sleep so good during the winter. I pass the fuck out at 9:30 easy.

Get on a sleep schedule, and no matter what time you fall asleep the night before, wake up at the same time every morning (make it like 9 or so - that is a pretty normal time). Try to avoid loud music/ pump up music before bed and bright lights. Optimally avoid tv/computer at all, but if you do, dim the lights on them. Also relax before bed, don't try to sleep when you are super high energy. Keep your heart rate low (no stimulants or physical activity). Reading can help a lot because it wears out your mind and is a way to help relax yourself right before you sleep. Take a melatonin suppliment and you will be good then. Also find a routine that works for you is hugely important. If you are consistent, you will fall asleep a lot easier
