so i got some 166 ar6s and i weight 105 pounds and im 5 foot 5

i ski 50% park and 50% all mountain, and i wanted a soft ski that i could butter easily and jib around with easily but still take all mountain, and i havent mounted them yet so i only got to hand flex them, and they feel really stiff. even the dude at my shop said i should sell them when i told him i got ar6s because he said they would be balls stiff for me and i should pick up some disordorlys, invaders, jo pros or something that was soft but poppy because im so light, all mountain would be fine. and i didnt beleive him, until yesterday..i clicked in to my friends chronics and just started messing around with them in his yard (light just trying to pop around on them) and i could barley get them up on the tips to butter, so now im pissed because i think i invested a shit ton money in to a ski thats way to stiff and i wont have any fun on.

so i guess im just looking for some opinions on this and if they are actually to stiff and whatever really

thanks ns

I wasn't going to reply cause I've already told you about the ski, however, I have to say two things.
1. JO Pros are WAY stiffer than AR6's, my friend has them, I skied them once, and I hated them, I couldn't butter and they were SO light I didn't think I had skis on (kinda nice I guess, but I felt very unstable).
2. Chonics are probably Line's stiffest ski (besides their big mountain skis), and they are also stiffer than AR6s.
IF you TRULY feel that your AR6s are too stiff (I don't think so) then you better really do some research so you get the ski thats right for you, the softer the ski, that harder it's going to be to ski All-Mountain with. I really think that AR6s are the ski you're looking for.
Anyone else got any opinions?

Keep in mind all skis initially seem pretty stiff, takes a few days for them to break in. Also if you are 5'5" and 105lbs I'm guessing you are still growing and will put on some weight and height.

totally agree plus it takes a few days or weeks to break em in all skis are initially stiff when you first get them

Haha I know. If you think ar6's are stiff, you better get some muscle because they are anything but stiff. They are not even close to being stiff. Go pick up a pair of volkls or Extremes and if you think ar6's are stiff you won't even be able to put even a slight bend in those skis. get some invaders.

i dont think its about what is an "all mountain" ski. i think its about what you prefer. You obviously don't like the stiffness of the ar6 so maybe go look for some invaders or urban punx. Elizabeths are pretty soft but a little fatter @ 110 underfoot. Moment rockers are on the softer side, and are pretty good all mountain @ 92 (?) underfoot. take a look at some of those.

word, I "learned" to butter on Walls and it was so hard, then I got AR6s and it made it SO easy. Once you break em in they are so much fun, but still have excellent edge hold.

yeah AR6s are gonna flex out real quick and get even less stiff, so i would just stay with em if you want soft skis

I'm 5'8 150 lbs and i was going to get those same skis. I think they might be a bit big for you, If there 09's ile buy em off you.

to small for you bro, you need the 171s or the 176s (I'm 5' 8" 155 and may AR6s were 176)

Assuming you are still growing, that is a really great ski. I'm picking up the AR6W's this year.I have AR5's, ARW's and Invaders. So assuming we are about the same size but you are a guy and probably stronger... Something like the invaders are going to be wayyyyyy too soft. I can't use them for all mountain at all. They shatter so bad. The AR6's will soften up a bit. But you need to keep in mind that an all mountain ski isn't meant to excel in any one area. It is meant to do a bit of everything. Meaning no, it wont be the best ski for rails, and it wont be the best for powder but if you want to not sink in fresh but still be able to do jumps and boxes, then sure, go all mountain. Last year I always had a pair of powder, pipe, and park skis in my car... I'm hoping the AR6w's can help me out a little with that and maybe I can lose the powder and pipe skis unless that is all I plan on for the day.

Unfortunately you cannot compare women and men with skis. The physiological differences create a deep yawning chasm in ski design and performance.

The ski will ski differntly yes, but the basics like how soft the ski is for his size will be similar. Like if i say the invaders are noodling out when skiing all mountain (down advanced runs) chances are for someone the same size as me regarless of penis or no penis the same will happen. It is also my experience that my armada's have softened up a fare amount. It is also to my understanding that the AR6 is an all mountain ski and the difference between the men's and the women's is the core. in which the women's is a lighter slightly more agile ski.
Everything else I said about an all mountain ski being good but not great for a bit of everything still stands true.
Just cause I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't ski men's skis too.

Im not saying you cant ski a mens ski. I am simply pointing out why there is a need for womens skis, aside from the pink frilly crap. Women have a vastly different and more complex weight distribution which isnt very conducive to 'buttering' so to speak. Your center of mass is in your hips, where as most men would have it in their chest. This allows geometrically higher torque over the ski, allowing it to butter much easier. This is the reason for women specific cores and bindings on non-twin skis. Usually there is some sort of ramp angle that will allow a woman to pressure the tips of the ski easier.

no he's saying he's shorter but heavier, but he's not fat, so he's basically agreeing with you.

keep in mind that skis loosen up after a bit of use, but a big difference with flexes will stay. Then again, if you're still growing, it may be a good investment. Also, if you like to ski fast, a sturdier ski will suit you better. You might be surprised how you can butter a stiffer ski with the right technique.

Then again, its all you're choice and you can have fun on a pair of noodles too

this is true, plus if you learn on a stiffer ski, when you have enough money to have two skis (a stiff ski and a soft ski) you can butter the soft ski to the end of the world. If I can butter my Antidogmas you can butter AR6s once they're broken in.

Once you learn to butter you can do it on any ski. I learned on my invaders, easy enough, I'm not saying I am good at buttering I am just saying I can. I demoed a pair of s5's that were mounted at recommended and I could butter them. Yes it is easier on invaders, but a stiff ski won't eliminate the ability to butter.

idk get some invaders i hate um they are the flexiest things ever and put sme muscles on them bones youl be able to flex ur skis better and you will have more fun on um

holy shit, i was gone at hockey practice and i come home and see all these responses, thanks.

and in all serious, i eat like 6 meals a day, and all my snacks i eat stragiht up peanut butter so im making an attempt to put on weight, but im really physically active and my matabolism (spelling error i know) is out of this world

i guess ill kept them and yes they are 09's, i just was thinking that im so small that a soft ski wouldnt chatter at mach 5 down groomers, but i guess im wrong..

disorderlys arent really that soft, and they arent cap so there gonna be a bit heavier than invaders, trust me ive ridden both, i have disorderlys and my bro has invaders, invaders are lighter and softer, disorderlys have some nice pop though.

yep u did armadas are stiif skis
i used to rock em now i rock line and never turned back
get some afterbangs there stable but soft very nice skis wayyy better than armadas
good faw butters

btwif u think chronics are soft try afterbangs

You cannot make a blanket statement about a brand like that. If anything, armada tends to make softer skis. even a supposed stiff ski like the ANT, has a really soft core, its all about how you wrap it with the glass.

I know a rider 5'7" 130 lbs on AR6 166cm 2007. Works great. There are always stories of they made it stiffer or softer so I do not know what yr ur ski is...

U may have to grow into the ski or combined with a backpack and boots etc.... they ski may be great for next year. But u may get good pop this year. I don't think it's too much of a mis-match-up for this yr.

By Xmas if u eat enough turkey it will be great.

If you think they're "too stiff" just mount them true center ... Problem solved :)

Easier turn initiation, easier to butter/press etc, easier to jib, have fun ... bla bla bla

im mounting them 1.5 back, and at least in the all mountain part they'll kill it, but jibbing will be another story...

shouldve got thalls, but i just couldnt bring myself to do it, i HATE the graphic, and yes, i know the graphic doesnt make the ski

I think u should keep with them. I meen the chronics are a lot of fun and pop great, and if these arent as stiff as the chronics then ull be fine
