I think everyone needs to know what is coming for ski movies.

for what it is, that is incredibly cheap. and they also are coming out with a line of cheaper versions in the fall

$17k for a camera this good is sooo cheap. In the long run, it saves money, and you can trade it in for their new camera when it comes.

Watch out for TGR's film, they got one!

no its not.

on the note of the skate movie however, would it be possible for skaters to shoot something other then low angle follow cams from their skate boards,

those cameras are sick, but they're only practical when you have say a private shoot, or something where theres a lot of set up needed...the accesories(lenses, etc), hang off the side of the camera, and those lenses aren't so great out in really cold conditions, as they are made to be used on 35mm film cameras...they will be sick when red brings out a camera with a lens already attached, for the more Pro-sumer market

Cinematographers are so focused about image quality that they often forget about content, editing, music, mood. And whatever, right now I am super happy with the image quality of my DVD's. Or 10 years ago I could not have watched more a bunch of clips from my favorites skateboard VHS's. At that time I did not care a cent about image quality.

But how many do they have? Just one is only good for one angle, and that doesn't look good when you're splicing together shots of different quality.

I think it would be a great snowsports camera...just shoot with a low aperture.

And I personally would take SLRs over fixed-lenses any day, no matter what I was shooting.

i'm not as up to date as most with cameras but i read somewhere that only a few companies have the camera? i guess the big ones do like L1, pbp?

exactly my point of view.

It seems like it's gettin about all big and scary with crazy cameras that makes video look better then real life.

sometimes I'd ratehr watch an amateur movie fronm scnadinavian dudes filmed with a 3ccd camera with good riders having fun with an happy mood in it then something like picture this or ssd.

Follow me around was a real good mix of both and I liked it ALOT

same with 4bi9, way more fun for me to watch than seven sunny days even. I have to say though i really liked tj's and sammy's seg and colbys impressions. yeah the whistler jump was huge but i thought the song and the super slow mo kinda messed up how epic that session probably was.

I completely agree with you, I have an arriflex 16 bl, and having interchangeable bayonet-mount lenses.. its the best thing in the world...but when im skiing, let me tell you that bringing a red system on a cold snowy day is just a bad idea...especially if i paid for it myself, now if my company paid for it and had insurance, that would be a different story..the other problem is whips and follow focusing, remember, these babies dont have auto-focus...so you're gonna need a whip to follow focus properly, sure its fine if you're doing a shoot from distance standing still....but get into a helicopter and you better be one hell of a cinematographer to pull off some good shots

True, but wouldn't it be pretty similar to shooting 16mm from a heli? as long as you shoot with a deep DOF...
