I suck.

Title pretty much says it all. A bit older now then back in my prime. (29). While I was never amazing at park skiing. I could throw down some good 360, 540, 720s, grabs, and sometimes a lincoln loop. I haven't been skiing much in the past 3-4 years, and to put it simply... I suck.

I went to granite peak on sunday, they had a pretty nice jump line set up of 6 medium sized jumps 25-40 ft. I can't even straight air without feeling super uneasy. I feel real uncomfortable in the air, just doing saftety grabs or sraight airs. My arms are usally flaping all over the place, and I find myself taking off in the back seat a lot, which means landing in the back seat. Even though I put more forward pressure on my shins, and try to stay balance on the balls of my feet. I still take off back seat, roll the windows up in the air, and just feel really un easy. I remember back in the day I could hit almost any sized jump and have nice control in the air. Now I seem all over the place. I couldn't imagine even trying anything right now, as I am having a hard time just staying balanced in the air.

That's normal, you haven't skied in awhile. Your air awareness will resurface before you know it.

Have fun out there!

I only get around to skiing proper park like once a year and i need a few small jumps to get back into the feel of te bigger ones.

Try hitting smaller ones then when comfrotable with them gradually build up to the bigger ones

Park skiing =/= riding a bike. Takes a little while to get your feet back under you. However, you don't have to re-learn everything, it comes back much more quickly then when you first learned it.

Yea I figured it kinda of came with the teritory. What can I do to not take off back seat, and not land back seat? It seams if the jump has more of a lip to it, then I really have to stay focused on keeping pressure on the balls of my feet and shin pressure. The jumps that don't have as much curvature to them, I find are easier for me.....

I 99% sure I saw you at Granite Peak this weekend at the jump line. I was the kid with blue Sessions jacket, Blue electric goggles, and camo gray FD pants.

Yea...I was rockin my 5 year old ar5's with gray pants, gray northface, white helmet.....looking like a fool....(without my pants on the ground).

But for real...I had a real fun time getting air. Made for some interesting landings, and very awkward sitauations in the air. Especially on jump #4, which is nothing compared to the stuff out west, or what some of the young lads do on here...but I would say its a good 40ft+ to the sweet spot on the landing. A couple of times I had a lil to much speed coming in hot off of #3 and it booted me pretty dang far actually. Tha'ts when the windshield wipers start......:) I just wish I could get my airwarness back, and be able to float comfortably. I remember doin 360's off of monster jumps in college at Marquette. It all seemed like slow motion back then. Now if feels like..ooohhhhh shittttt! Feel like a grandpa today.

yeah, 3 and 4 in that line are definitely the biggest and most poppy. It's always fun just straight airing them. I used to have a problem of landing back seat on jumps, because i would tend to pop off the lip instead of just riding off of it. I mean, it's good to pop when you're throwing a spin, but when you're just throwing a grab or straight air, you're better off riding straight off.

I know how you feel though, I suck at doing 3's now after throwing some crazy spins off of some of the bigger jumps at Granite. Because I haven't done them in so long off of bigger, it's hard to be comfortable in the air while doing them. Right now, I honestly look like a gaper while doing 3s, but it all has to do with the break in familiarity with the rotation.

Try to get a comfortable speed, stay loose upon takeoff, absorb the lip and throw a steezy grab. Hopefully you can get your steeze back. Good luck!

And yeah, that definitely was you. I saw you while riding the lift up, and I was really expecting to see something cool thrown when you were approaching the lip, because you looked like you knew what you were doing.

lol yep...I can ski very well. Can rip with the best of them out west. Park skiing not so good anymore. I am going again next weekend hopefully I feel a lill more comfy in the air, and actually be able to try something. #4 is just askin for a big 360 mute from me. Its a lil different now, becasue if I get hurt bad enough I cant work..which is bad because of real world commitments.

OP i have some advice for not flailing in midair. Tighten up your core after you pop. it keeps your limbs from flailing and you feel so much more in control. Since i started doing it i have twall steeze... at least on my straight airs.

man i feel the same way ive been decreasing in park ability over the last 2 years, i can just never get around to trying new shit. It's time for that to change i need to go stompe some flips soon...

its frustrating to not be as good as you used to be, but honestly it doesn't take that long to get your skills back, I garauntee once you get that balance point back on your straight airs you will be pretty much back in business

This. Air awareness doesn't stick, you have to keep practicing at it, it's cool because you just start to naturally "get the hang of it again" and before you know it you're boosting off jumps and enjoying the floaty feeling, waiting for landing, making only minor adjustments if you need.
