I splurged on the Karma

Well after intensive research and toil... I pulled the trigger.

I decided to buy Völkl Karmas. It was a wild ride starting at Head Mad Trix going through everything from Line to Atomic.

I still have to demo some K2 PE's tomorrow because my bindings haven't shown up yet, and thus can't be mounted on my new Karmas before tomorrow, but they'll be all ready to go by Thursday when I go up. Should be fun to get a feel for the difference between the K2 and the Volkl.

I ended up with 177's, which should be perfect I think.

I almost went for some Atomic Tweaks to save money, but I got a local shop here to give me a little break on the Karmas, and I managed to very quickly sell my Atomic GS:11's with Race 614 bindings for $250 total. I figured with the Karma I'd be alright with just a lone pair of skis.

Take the little discount plus free binding mount along with the money from my other skis, and I thought I'd treat myself to a little b-day present (ugh... 26).

Oh and my folks drove up to surprise me which lead to the good fortune of being able to give them a check, have them buy the skis, and avoid sales tax... whew... $50 extra saved there :)

Now that I got all that hot air out I can condense it all down to three words...

I'm completely amped!

Sure thing... for both of ya :)

Bear in mind that I'm 5'9" - 5'10" about 165-170 lbs. and my point of reference is going to be all-mountain, carving, and air... I've never skied a terrain park (boarded several though) and don't plan on starting tomorrow :)

I'll ski the crap out of em though.

Haha... yeah it was a bit agonizing. I'm an obsessive researcher, but the whole time I just had this notion in the back of my mind that the Karma would "just work" for me and what I wanted from a twin tip.

So when the time game I believe my exact words were, "Aw f*ck it." :)

I look forward to reviewing em.

Cheers!

haha, me too. I am about the same size as you, a bit lighter tho, and I went through that process and decided on the Mojo 80's. Karma's were my second choice, but I could get a great deal on the Mojos. I've ridden them twice, and like them so far

Skied my karmas last night and they are so sick... i could not get them to break loose and were takin sunday night in western ny.. the mountain was beat. I just put them up on edge and held on... They did not feel like a tiwn tip at all... not to metion one thats 87mm in the waist... Forget tryin to carve turns at slow speeds.. these things beg to go fast

^^^yeah, i have old V-Pros. it is IMPOSSIBLE to ski them slowly. they just haul ass, and dont let up. all you have to do is buckle up and enjoy the ride. i am thinking of scoring some 185 Karma's this season, i would like the larger waist.

^^ I dig JMT :)

I'll post up a review on the Karma's once I ride them... which is supposed to happen on Thursday. I'll be heading up to Schweitzer.

If the shop is finished mounting my bindings tomorrow night I'll take some photos and post them, otherwise it'll have to wait until I get home Thursday night.

For additional point of reference you can read a review of some Salomon Foil 1080's that I wrote up. I'll be doing a comparison to my previous ski experience as well as to my experience on the Foils once I've ridden on the Volkl setup :)
