That's terrible though.  I can empathise.  I have a miniature pinscher, and he got hit by some dude who was smashed out of his mind, right in front of my house.  I started balling, because I thought he died on impact, but he lived, and the vet said he was lucky to be alive, especially considering he got hit by a truck going 50 km/hr.  He was still a puppy, so his bones were soft and bent around his innards, absorbing the shock.  If he was older, there was potential for bones to snap and puncture organs.  But he survived, and he's still charging hard 1 year later.  Full recovery.
