I never knew you could get pulled over on....

a longboard, until tonight. Cop came up behind me, less than a block from my house and pulled me over on my longboard. He claims he wasn't trying to be a dick and help me out, but he pulled me over on my longboard!! claimed i broke 5 different laws and could arrest me. Why are cops out there doing bullshit when people in slc are getting killed and stabbed daily? SLCPD killin it on the real issues, drunk longboarders trying to get home from a party and they say the best way to avoid the issue is to stay home. Fuck you.

It's not like cops have precognitive powers about who will get killed or stabbed and where, you moron. If he told you that you were breaking five different laws, he was trying to help you by a warning that some other officer could give you a fine or worse.

Yepp. 90% of cops are pretty nice guys/gals from my experiences if you're friendly towards them. If a cop tells you you're breaking some laws just thank him for the heads up and continue on your way. Other times you get douchebags and that is when you say fuck the police. penis

Who the fuck punishes a person avoid drunk driving and longboarding 6 blocks home? Especially on empty streets at 3am. Such bullshit. They could be downtown, just driving the streets and probably stop someone from getting robbed or help someone who has been etc.

I was longboarding down the road, he was treating me like i was a car, which is such bullshit. Are you gonna pull over a drunk person walking home? No.

no but for me they'll tell me i shouldnt be walking around at crazy hours in the night and say as long as i go straight home its cool. my friends been pulled over on a bike for speeding in a school zone though on a bike lloolol

Agreed... It's not really worth their time to be "pulling" you over for longboarding drunk when there are legitimate issues happening elsewhere. Whatever though, at least you got away with nothing--and props for longboarding drunk: I know I'd have some trouble with that haha.

Driving on empty streets... It's called upholding the peace and patrol routes. I lived in the calmest area in Helsinki for two years, cops still did rounds three times a day. It brings at least the feeling of security to those who pay for it. You have to understand that a lot of police work has nothing to do with actual cases of violence, but mostly domestic disturbances.

Okay, I'm guessing you're drunk now as it's 5am over there so your logic may be a bit flawed. Your drunk driving argument is a bit crazy.

I don't know exactly what you're talking about when you say "driving", but he clearly stated that he was longboarding. The difference between longboarding and driving is about two tons, so I'm going to have to side with eheath here on the "drunk driving argument"--the damage he could have done if he collided into a parked car or otherwise is negligible compared to what might have happened if he was in an actual car. Read the post more clearly?

minor in consumptions. loled.
You didn't get fucking pulled over while walking for one, dipshit. The cops saw you walking clearly intoxicated and said "hey look at this fuck up, he's clearly not of legal drinking age." So they ticketed you for being a dumbass.

ahh so blowing below a .07 is both times is being completely hammered, and i didnt know you were with me, maybe you can tell me what actually happened then? because i clearly don't know why i got pulled over while walking. Oh wait, one time was walking and one time was standing on the sidewalk. I'm sorry but you hurt my feelings over the interwebz for calling me a dumbass, please say you're sorry :(

Straight back at you. I meant what Eheath said about cops and the uselessness driving on empty streets while they could be downtown solving murders and whatnot.

And the drunk driving argument is flawed as hell. He presents it as if he avoided driving home drunk by choosing another mode of transportation, meaning he would have driven drunk had he not had his board with him. Not saying he would have, but the logic in his statement makes it seem so.

quality post, i'm glad you can contribute so much to this thread. Much respect for being a d-bag, gets you far in life buddy! quality members like you are what make this site so great! i remember when people actually posted something worth while, but its the internet, gotta make up for the sadness that is your life by sitting behind a computer screen and hating, i wish you much luck! congratulations, you're an idiot.

I brought my longboard to get home from the party, it was planned. I could've driven home just fine, no matter how drunk i was, but the law says its illegal and they can completely fuck my ass for the rest of my life if i ever get a DUI, so i dont drive while intoxicated.

Sorry but if you're not of legal drinking age don't be drunk in public. Come at me bro

Fair enough, I've just had enough close calls with campus police (true story) peeling out into parking lots and then charging down sidewalks while people are still walking down them in order to chase down someone that was biking while intoxicated.
While his argument does leave some room to dispute whether or not he would have considered driving home as opposed to longboarding/walking, I don't think it is open enough to just say "well, he was longboarding, so he might as well have been driving". That's just as stupid as extrapolating that just because someone smokes cigarettes means that they might choose a more dangerous form of smoking (i.e. smoking weed, smoking crack etc.) just because they were smoking something.
I agree that police are essential to maintaining civil order (in most instances at least) and the safety and well-being of others, I just think that there are better things to do than patrol around Helsinki's "calmest area" when actual crimes are being committed every minute.

that post was the perfect example for why you're an idiot and why a majority of the members on here are pathetic. I realize 4chan makes everything that is funny on the internet, but really? its not original posting a meme as a reply anymore, it's quite old. You're lucky because a lot of people aren't as privileged as you to have a lower drinking age than 21, go canada! i'm done replying to this, and im wasting my time, goodbye.

I'm having a hard time understanding your point here.

I never said this guy was going to drive intoxicated, although he made it abundantly clear that he is capable of such action, but what I did challenge was his logic whose fallacy I already explained - a drunk logic at that, how foolish of me.

As for the patrolling, you understand that even the calmest areas might not remain as such if people with criminal intents knew the police do not patrol in these areas. The thing about these stabbings and other actual crimes is that they have to be reported in so the cops know what to do, where to go. Like I said, at least here cops have certain places they circulate during their shifts and obviously if a crime is reported in, they haul ass to get there.

I don't really have anything else to add, so I'm gonna stop my arguments here. If you want to add something be my quest, but I won't argue against you.

no one is going to ask.. realy? what were the 5 laws you were breaking according to him. and I know there are states where driving a bike under the influence is considered the same as a car and is punishable. Is this the case for your state?

maybe cars were held back because they couldn't pass you on your long board in that "narrow" street...

it's like most cyclists in cities...they want to be treated like cars when it comes to other traffic, but not when it comes to breaking traffic laws.

I'm not sure what the law is in your particular area, but in most places unless you're a pedestrian (ie on foot) you have to follow traffic laws. Stopping at stop signs, obeying lanes, hell, technically you even have to use those stupid arm signals they teach you in like 2nd grade.

Wrong, In most places pedestrians do not have to follow traffic laws, thats what in places like cali there is a lot of debate going on over longboarders going 40mph+ in residential neighborhoods

I specifically said unless you're a pedestrian.

and perhaps it's different where you are. I know where I usually live, if you're on some form on transportation on the streets, you're supposed to follow the traffic laws.

Most people on bikes are completely ruthless on the walkways. By law they should ride on the driving lane but hardly anyone follows that here, then theu just bomb down a hill from behind you on a very, very narrow sidewalk (near where I live). I've had so many fucking close calls when there's a lot of heavy traffic (buses, trucks) and if I had taken a slight misstep and wobble to the left I would have been exploded by a biker going outrageously fast and coming behind me with no rings from a bell or slowing down.

Motherfuckers shouldn't even be on the sidewalk. When I've yelled furiously after them, you think any of them has turned back?

i have gotten pulled over twice. the last time was for a burned out headlight...
the first time was from crossing a street, in a cross walk, and doing absolutely nothing wrong. the cop must have thought i was drunk or something, but maybe it was because i had a dunkin donuts bag in my hand.

yep, a guy i know got pulled over and arrested for bombing a hill on a longboard, was a realllyyyy dangerous hill though and he wa easily breaking the speed limit

yeah thats what i got from the post too... ...

whats your problem you broke 5 laws and he didnt arrest you. the laws are there for your and other's safety.

he was just giving you a heads up chill out

well did the cop actually "punish" you? sounds like he was just giving you a heads up on the laws you were breaking..

I've heard more stories this year about longboard related cop stories. Why can't cops just leave longboarders alone? I saw someone get pulled over the other day for longboarding in my city. So dumb.

the funny thing is that statistically, you run a higher risk of dying while walking drunk than driving drunk. for practical purposes, i would still highly recommend walking instead of driving because those statistics dont take into account the people that die in car accidents who weren't the drunk drivers themselves. anyways, what i'm getting at is that longboarding drunk (or even biking drunk) is actually dangerous and illegal, and somewhat a bad idea. however, i've done it to get home and as long as you dont go near traffic and you go slowly and carefully it's probably okay. depends on the situation.

if you don't do stupid shit, they will leave you alone. don't do stuff like weave in and out of traffic, pass in illegal zones, and so forth. if you want to longboard on busy roads, you have to treat it as if you were in a car. You aren't exempt from the laws of the road.

I dunno if people are getting stabbed and killed daily in SLC, but yeah, that's some bullshit that you got pulled over.

Back at home a cop gave me a warning about riding my longboard on the street I lived on, I was literally in front of my house. Here in Oswego I've ridden all around my block drunk and high on drugs with not even a second glance at my direction. They must be used to it here with all the college kids, plus I've never seen so many kids skateboarding on the streets outside their houses.
