so last friday a group of newschoolers that are older than me like 27-28 came to my house cause they started a web page here in Chile and they offered to sponsor me... the sponsor is really sick its like a full setup of snow outerwear rossi skis and bindings, rossi boots, poles and bolle outerwear and also a trip to a resort here in chile for a week all paid to take pics and stuff.... the thing is that i have to compete in every comp the tell me (wich i reaaally don't like) and also use the stuff they give me all the time... well a lot of you would say take it right away, but this is my problem... i'm really happy with what i have know in terms of skiing, i worked all the summer to buy my own stuff (armada skis, saga, some other stuff) tht i know are sicker than what they give, but most important of all i'm skiing now with my best friends, cause we all work together in the snow park and that's when i'm the happiest skiing with and this is the last season i can do that cause next year evrybody starts working and its not going to be easy to do this again with them(that's how it works here in Chile), and i would have to ski with the team of my sponsor insted wich are really cool but it's different... and if i'm not really sure and motivated about this i don't want to take away the cahcne for other kid to be sponsored and may really need it.... what do you guys think?? and thanks for any advice and reading...

Don't take it man, if your that good better deals will come along.

You are into skiing for skiing, and a sponsor WILL come along that recognizes that.

^ yea but he's in chile, so i assume getting spancerized is waaaaaaay harder than in teh US of A.

ask them to draw up a detailed schedule of the comps that you'll be doing and your other commitments. if you can still ride with your friends a bunch do it.

true, but still if it becomes just him skiing for someone else and not himself, that's not worth a sponsorship cus it takes the fun away.

Tell them how you feel man.

yeah is really hard to get sponsored in Chile (there are at the most 20 guys with sponsors) , but i have the luck that my family has been related with ski here in Chile for a looong time so i have everything i need with almos no cost... and also it would be sick to say yes cause it has a lot of benefits like knowing other newschoolers having fun with the team but there's something that i feel that is telling me that this is just not my thing like going into comps and sometimes doing what they tell me... i'm having a really hard time deciding and i got till monday to decide...anyway thanks a lot for the advices guys

you seem like a nice guy, so i'm going to give you the best advice i can offer... kill yourself! that's what i'd do in your situation. that way not only will you have to worry about this decision ever again, but you won't have to worry about ANY decision ever again. i recommend sucking on a lit stick of dynamite as you take off of your final ski jump, an armada ski on one boot and a rossi ski on the other, to symbolize your predicament/ end all of your problems.

not funny.

Get a schedule from them and will you have to ski on their gear even when you are just skiing for you? If you truly are 100% good right now I would say decline it. OR, counteroffer saying I will compete 5 times or something (worst they can say is no?)

I think that if you have to second guess this then it's probably not worth it... Skiing should be fun, and if you would have more fun skiing with your friends, then with a company then don't to it... Also, if this company really wants to have you on their team, then see if you can negotiate... Ask if you could do half the comps, or do all the comps, but you will get to ski with your friends inbetween or something... Just because they offered you something doesn't mean you have to take it... Wait until something comes along that is too good to be true.

i wonder how many kids are currantly thinking WTF, this is my dream and he doesnt even want it.

just remember its all about having fun. If your good, and you want to live for skiing, then you will get other oppertunitys.

one company see's you as a marketable, exelent skier that will represent there company in a good way others will too!!!!!

Talk to them bro, see if you can come to an arrangement. Like maybe you take just the skis and boots deal or something for reduced coverage.

They should not be able to dictate your season either. Again, talk to them, get a list of the comps they want you to enter, and maybe pick the ones you like the look of and see if they're cool with it.

the opportunity of a paid trip and photo shoot is a good one, and if you can work something out with the guys then it could work out for you.

It is your season and you have to decide what is right for you. But negotiate like hell.

Also contact other companies and see what the possibility of getting sponsorship is.

Armada has a huge worldwide AM team and may be looking for some SA coverage, you never know.

hey man if i were you i would just wait a year, shred with your friends and not have a care in the world, then next year when your friends all break up try to get that offer again when your that much better.
