It's far away but I am going to Japan next winter to ski and need some info. What is the best time of year to go, where is the best skiing for powder and tree skiing, any other info you can think of. Thanks!!!!

The best places for powder and tree skiing are Niseko and Hakkoda. Niseko is on Hokkaido, the northern island. Info here:

Hakkoda is in Aomori, on the northern tip of the main island, Honshu. It is near the capital, Aomori City. Site is only in Japanese, hopefully you know someone that can help you with it or can use a translator site:

For transportation to Niseko-Hirafu, take a flight to Chitose/Sapporo Airport, then a Bus/Train to Kutchan. For transportation to Aomori City, you can take the bullet train (shinkansen) from Tokyo after flying into Narita Intl. Airport. Or you can take a domestic flight from Haneda Airport in Tokyo. I prefer the bullet train, probably easier with gear too. If you do both and do Hakkoda first, you could also take a ferry from Aomori City across to Hakodate, Hokkaido, before the bus/train. Then after taking the bus/train back from Niseko, catch a domestic flight from Chitose/Sapporo Airport back to Haneda, switch over to Narita, and fly out. Just a suggestion.

I think I had my best skiing last year in February. Hope this helps.

Couple addendums: by capital, I mean Aomori City is the capital of Aomori Prefecture. And the snow is awesome right now, but it wasn't this good last year at this point. Season goes really late, but you probably want to avoid the spring skiing, snow isn't as good and it gets a little crowded.

Ya defintely go to the northern island of hokkaido. not as accessible as shit like nagano cuz you have to take a plane but if you love powder, it's well worht it. crowds arent as big either. PM me if you need more detailed info.

I was just reading in sbc skier that some of the ski areas in japan are rumored to be for sale for 500,000 dollars and lodges for 50,000. Thats sooooo cheap.

And if you're going to japan DO NOT skip the bathhouses. they are the best things in the world.

i read the title, realised, shit thats right japans off the hook, so im gonna hit up japan next year.
