I write a academical work (20 pages) with the theme >. If you have any Homepages witch are usefull or you have anythingelse usefull please let me know

Thanks alot Steffen Hürter

True freeskiing's pioneers include Mike Douglas (http://www.mspfilms.com/athletes/douglas) and JP Auclair.

you can't just say only two people pioneered the sport. theres so many people that were a part of it.

Jason Levinthal? Im pretty sure he may have had something to do with pursuing new skis designs... could be wrong about that though. Oh and Eric Pollard.... and that Shane McKonkey guy had some imput on those Spatula skis some of you may have heard of.

All sarcasm aside.. an ok history of free skiing... (granted its a very limited and bias one) is on the line website.

http://www.lineskis.com/#/line/story

That should help.

If you get into a 20-pg report of freeskiing without mentioning guys like Doug Coombs, I'm going to find out where you live, fed-ex myself over there, and learn you good.

Guys like Coombs put the "Free" in Freeskiing. Otherwise you best be writing about trick skiing.

Don't forget that.

Freeskiing started before the bloody twin-tip, people.

[From WICKIPEDIA:]"There are several companies that have supported and greatly added to the progression of Newschool Skiing. These companies, including Line, Armada, Liberty, and 4FRNT..."

Can anyone tell me how Armada, Liberty or 4FRNT "added to the progression" of Newschool? That's pure B.S.

No doubt, they've been smart....smart to jump on the bandwaggon, that is. Progression isn't a valid point on their resumes.....they make shiney new skis though.

Is this guy talking about freeskiing, like, big mountain freeskiing (freeriding?) or is he talking about freestyle skiing?

yeah the line story sums it up quite well. just don't forget to include seth morrison in your "important people in freeskiing's history" list

Well seeing as J.P. is a co-founder of Armada... I'm pretty sure that he isn't a bandwaggoner. I would say that Armada is a pretty progressive company. Most recently they came out with the ARG which is a very different variation of the alternative shaped ski. So with people like Tanner and J.P. on board... Im sure there is plenty more progression that could in part be attributed to Armada.

In a much more general sense, "core" companies like armada, 4frnt, and Liberty (ok... liberty might be pushing it a little bit) have been supporting the riders that are pushing the sport. Armada has Tanner who has always been progressive, J.P. who is one of the founding fathers of the movement. T.J. Who is continuing to progress the sport... etc. 4frnt backs Steele and others who have been pushing the sport forever. Sterbenz has been around forever too. Hes always been doing whatever he could to progress the sport.

Companies don't need to invent something totally new or be in the lime light to contribute to the pregression of the sport. Just by endorsing Pros as well as supporting the average skier with great product a company progresses the sport.

yeah you can't start a paper without mentioning combs, and even guys

like schidmt and plake. It's still part of our roots. Back before

schimdt and plake, you were either a racer, or freestyler, or a

mountainier. No one did what they did.

Talk about how

different people starting emerging different places with fresskiing,

starting to go into snowbaord parks. At hood, Pollards and his

friends, tahoe with moseley, cr, even raps, mcconkey, the new french

canadian airforce with jp, mike douglas, julien regnier, philou, jf,

all those guys.

You can talk about ski design. The sad

tangent into snowlerblading. The emergence of twin tips(get the 2006

freeskier buyers guide for a full history on this. tons of

information. The 2003 buyers guide for freeze also has some info on

the development of the 1st 1080. Talk about the progression into fat

twins, symetrical skis(do not say invaders were the first, i think old

1260s way back in the day were, but they were too ahead of their time),

then you can talk about mcconkey's wierd designs, and rockered skis.

You can talk about ski resorts building more parks and allowing skiers in.

You

can talk about comps. Like the history of the x games and USFO. Like

who won what early competitions with what. and the I think jp auclairs

victory when he raised the 1st 1080 above his head to everyones

amazement. talk about cr's huge qualifying run in 2003 and how it was

bigger than the snowboarder's.

talk about how skiing is being

taken into the backcountry, both with bc booters and natural features

and with people doing park stuff in big mountain lines(started around

ski movie 3 with cr. more so in focused though.)

mike douglas figured out putting a tip at both ends.

i think a big leap in the sport took place a couple years ago when utah gap jumps were hot

you can't forget when the utah gaps first started getting hot in 1999 with candides straight air on chad's and jamie pierrs 3's and backflip on pyramid(not sure if its still the same year) and then in 200 when candide did the d spin 7 on chads. still one of the sickest tricks done on chads and thats saying a lot.

I thought that Candide did the dspin the day after he did the straight air?

The story I heard was that he and Chad were out there...and chad hit it... but came up short... and then Candide hit it... came up short... hiked up hit it again cleared it. Then he threw like a big 7? a double back and then the dpsin.

I could be totally making that up though... in any event that D-Spin was epic. It will pretty much always be one of Freetstyle defining moments.

With all due respect to Mr. Douglass, he didn't develop the idea of putting two tips on his planks.

Ever heard of Jake Burton? The idea has been around for decades, dood.

Also, companies like Armada/Liberty/4Frnt/etc. may produce great skis and sponse some sick-ass riders, but what have they really added to the sport in terms of progression. These "core" companies have truly jumped on the bandwaggon...and good for them. By the way, JP may own whatever he owns, but his most significant contribution to progression was with Solly....at least in my opinion.
