I need help rekindling my stoke

Time for internet strangers to counsel me....

I am Sad cuz I am feeling some season burnout. I went to Mt. Bohemia a couple weeks ago and had 2 of my best snow days ever full of deep snow and good vibes. but since I got back I've only really been skiing when I am teaching lessons and haven't felt much motivation to get out and go for fun, I know part of it is being kinda on a fairweather vibe cuz my local is ice 80% of the time, but I need to get out and ski more, like I love this shit but it has me 'pressed cuz I haven't been feeling the love as strong this season. It hasn't helped that its been around 0 degrees for the past month, its starting to get a little warmer now which might help a bit too. I skied Friday night for a couple hours and took a couple laps with work homies and that was a good time. I really wanna go ski more and rekindle my stoke and fuck around in the park but motivation has just not been too high. plz drop good vibes, advice, words of encouragement, sick vid segments, anything you think might help

Might be because you had a couple wild snow days and now you're back skiing within your comfort zone?

Send something new and/or scary, get the blood boiling!

Also, could very well be a factor from outside of skiing, I'm not here to tell you how to live your life but take a second to consider whether you've made changes to your sleep schedule, eating habits etc.

It’s always hard to keep the high after coming back from an awesome trip. Don’t worry though, it’ll come back on its own. Just don’t put to high of expectations on anything and let it be fun.

yea I feel like its just readjusting to ski groomers, but also I think being a ski instructor might have a little effect, like being on skis and having it be a job is weird, its a fun job and I love it, but I need to send some big shit to break free from that idea

fuck yeah

Go buy or demo a pair of skis you wouldn't normally ski and go ski them. For example I bought the sakanas and realized how much fun laying trenches is and if I ever get tired or bored I break those out and go and hit the blues and lay them sideways.

I've found doing something ridiculous can help. Go extra hard core, drive a bunch of miles sleep out in the lots meet some locals at a bar that are about to ski the 40th day straight and couldn't be more excited. Have very little plan but be within limits where your physically safe but every day is kinda a toss up and your not sure where your skiing or who your gonna meet. Stoke is everywhere sometimes you just need to get it back going. I think separating work and play since you teach lessons can impede that a lot. I do agree endless days of sub zero temps get tiresome I cant wait to bash some springtime bumps in a tee either.

Move out west

sounds like fun, but I am honestly kinda happy where I am, I lived in Colorado for a year for my freshman year of school but moved back for financial sake and didn't wanna do long distance with my partner anymore after 5 months of that. Also its so easy and cheap to travel from where I live and I have half decent skiing so I really cant complain tooo much, I got everything I need where I am, I just need a stoke boost

I said this in an earlier thread, but January lowkey sucks as a skiing month. Think about it:

- Usually low snow

- cold af

- dark af

- the most crowded ski month

- you're still getting warmed up/building back ski muscles

shit doesn't get good until February, march is the best, and then it's glorious spring skiing from there on out. I feel kinda burned out at least once every January. Brighter days are ahead.

just gotta make sure you're still getting out there. Ski the shitty boring conditions. When it gets good you will appreciate it that much more.

hell yea, gonna try to get out tomorrow

see how many times you can spin around in circles on skis. I did 10 spins last night on the groomer back the the car last night and got so dizzy. turn your zero degrees outside into 3600 degrees

Ski during the day, ski right after they make snow. My resort is notoriously icy and only open at night on weekdays. Gives me extra motivation to get out there early on the weekends to enjoy the sun and softer conditions

I feel this. Instructing can be really hard. Feels like it is turning your passion into a job at times.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job as an instructor, it's just at times it feels like it's sucking the life out of skiing a little bit.

I would highly recommend getting a job as a freestyle coach. If there's any sort of freestyle team at your local/near you, I'd look into it.

I started coaching for Team Duluth this season and it is infinitely more enjoyable than teaching beginner ski lessons.

Where's your local? I am thinking of making the drive to Mount Bohemia at some point when it snows. Seems like a fun place and I miss the PNW pow.

Similar situation man. Lived in Portland OR for 3.5 years and went to school for 2.5 of them. Miss Mount Hood for sure, but life is a lot simpler and cheaper in the midwest with a lot easier access to skiing (though it is obviously not the same level of skiing).

Sorry to hear about the gf, same shit here as well. Not easy not fun, shit sucks.

If you ever wanna come out to the MN north shore hmu
