I need binding help.

k so all this talk of bindings lately has gotten me really confused. the only thing i really know is that my din should be 8.5 (i am 6' 185 325mm sole length)or a little more. so recomend me a binding and state what technology makes that a good binding and maybe some personal experience or something.

thanks

I always liked my Look P12's...they have great technology behind the pivoting heelpiece, more contact points than most any other binding out there, and they have quite a bit of elastic travel, so when you're close to bailing, but can hold it out, then tend to keep you in, but when you're pretty much assured to die if you don't pop out, they let go, probably my favorite binding that I've owned to date.

Yeah, I'd recommend some looks. Since your recommended DIN is 8.5 you're probably going to end up skiing it around 10. If you ever go over 10 on your bindings you're going ot want a 14 din. I'd personally get some Look P14's or whatever the rossignol equivalent is. Big people like you break bindings very easily so getting a higher din binding is essential.

get either px12 jibs, or if you ride really hard a rossi fks120, If you ride reallly reallly hard get an fks155

set your toe at 9 and your heel at 10

i know the screw pattern on the p series and the fks series are pretty close together so they rip out easier. does the px series have a different screw pattern?

thats a lot of overkill man. do you really believe you need the highest din look race stock binding?

if you were to get racestocks, get like a fks120 or 155. if you are concerned about them ripping out, epoxy them. helacoils are also an option. but to be frank, if you really dont ski too hard, a px12 or axial2 120 would be fine

well if theyre the cheaper option might as well. they are a solid binding. the toe piece is a bit freaky (doesnt have a twisting release) but the min. din is 8, so perhaps it wouldnt be much of an issue (and considering most riders for rossignol, dyanstar, and atomic use them)

The multi-directional release that the PX series and FKS 120's have can be pretty nice. That way you can huck and know that your ski will come off if you don't land quite right. You'll want the full race toepiece if you don't want your ski to come off if you hit something big and land slightly back. Basically, it just won't release out of the toe unless you're twisting on it.

o so all the topiece on the 120s does is realease upward? and the others dont? and do s912s release upward cause thats binding i have and i dont recall releasing because of landing back seat

all the look/rossi consumer bindings (so px12, px14, axial2 120, axial2 140s, etc) have the multi directional toe (no other binding really has that release, except for the intermediate look/rossi bindings, which are no good for your purpose). They can release on a backward-twisting fall. Others can too, but they dont have the same rotation that the look/rossis have.

The racestocks are meant to keep racers (and i guess hard pushing freeskiers) locked in with more stability in very strenuous situations, while releasing when it is necessary. Like I said before, the multi-directional toe is nice, but if so many riders with say rossignol, dynastar, atomic, armada, etc. use the racestocks, then it really shouldn't be an issue.

However, if you really dont need them (and im inferring that you really dont), you would be fine with just a consumer binding. If p18s are the most economical option, and you do ride fairly hard, then they wouldnt be a bad choice.

STOP WITH THE LOOK/ROSSI!!!!!! THERE OK BINDINGS AT THE BEGGINING BUT IF YOU LIVE ANYWHERE WHERE THERES SUN THE BREAK SINKS AND THE HEELPIECE BREAKS!!!.i reccomend the 4frnt deadbolts!!!!if you have any talent at all in the park and it gets sunny sometimes get these!!!!built to last and no premature releases or brake failures!!!!if you know whats good for you look them up!@@@@@@@

He is defiantly right about the Look/Rossi they are just ok,the old p12 jibs were mads out of metal and the new ones are made from plastic Ive already snapped a pair and the brakes have always broken thay still havent managed to fix the problem

You guys need to accept the fact that ski brakes are designed to work in one direction. Think of a way that they can work on a switch landing and in a regular crash, then you can continue whining about it. Either that or don't throw your hands down when you land.

so say i catch an edge landing switch and i fall backwards. if i was using say an fks(not the 120) or p18 will my skis come off?

what's your din at? and which edge did you catch? and what color are your ski pants?

this is all important

my din maybe at 9-11, inside edge, and if u insist orange, atlas camo, brown or white depending on what im wearing

S914 good farily light binding and quit solid

P12 or 14 cause they sound bomb proof by everyone that rides em on this site

Help?

the new salomon 912 is solid this year cause they got rid of the pain in the ass wing and height adjustment plus its one of the lighest 12 din bindings on the market one thing that always turned me away from look and rossi (dont crucify me evryone cause i dont know if the higher end bindings do this) is that it will relase vertically out of the toe which can be a pain if you land in the back seat

that backwards release will save your ass!

wait till next year when the 912 has an all metal heel, then they will be sick

I meant the upward toe release. ever heard a of a backwards twisting fall? it's what claims your acls

so its worth it to blow out your knee because you have good insurance? 6 months of physical therapy is worth it? fuck that. you can tear you knee with any binding, but to hate upward release is idiotic (unless it was "too accurate" like some bindings, ie marker)
