I need an OS for my Mac

Long story short I tried to reformat my hard drive on my G4 Powerbook. I erased the hard drive then tried to reinstall OS 10.4 Unfortunately the disk I had was an upgrade to 10.4 from any version of OSX. I bought this computer used 2 and a half years ago off of Ebay from a computer store. Kind of pisses me off that this is the only disc they sent me and it doesnt say on the disc that it is just an upgrade. I tried installing my friend's version of OS 10.5 and I get a message saying "this operating system cannot be installed on this computer" Does anyone have any advice on what I should do or have an OS they could hook me up with?

is there any way you could have a friend or on another computer just pirate a version of OSX or whatever macs run? like a cracked version? i ran vista ultimate 64. a cracked version for about a year and had no problems.

you gotta track down someone with a G4 powerbook. and use there cd that came with it, shit sucks i ran into the same problem on my mac.
 
OS X 10.5 can be installed on a G4 powerbook, I've done it on mine.
My guess is that the G4 you bought off Ebay has had something changed in it that OS X doesn't recognise.
If your buddy's copy of OS X 10.5 is legit, then take it and the G4 into your nearest Apple Store (if possible) and ask to see one of their genii, who should be able to help you.
 
Oh I see. Only one computer? Could you borrow a friends, burn a bootable disc, and just boot from the disc at startup?
 
there is but its very convoluted if i remember correctly. kip, i would say take it to the mac store genii
 
Yeah to install windows or linux you gotta have an intel mac, but email amo$ and see if you can get his disc, my bro had to grab his firneds disk for his macbook.
