I need a vehicle so bad

A lot of my friends buy vehicles for like $1000 - $2000 vehicles and they're fine, but my dad insists that getting a $1500 1990 Chevy Blazer isn't gonna last long. I'd just be taking it to school for the first couple months and then in the winter I'll probably have fixed it up a bit and take it up the ski hill.

I dunno, I'm a good driver but know jack shit about vehicles... anyone else buy a cheap vehicle and is it still running strong?

This boarder chick I know takes her like $400 car up the ski hill 3 days a week and hasn't had any problems yet.

But yeah, I've got a hook up at the local Ford dealership where I can get trade-ins for cheap.

I desperatelyneeed a vehicle but I'm broke. Wil have like $1,000 soon + selling my skis and a couple jobs I've got to do.

ya or volvo or toyota or honda. jsut make sure you have it checked out by a michanic, and if thye say it is good, then go for it. oh and make sure that the michanic has no affiliation with the place that is selling it.... or BMW, if you can afford it. my BMW is a 1987 and it was 4,000. it has 144k miles and it is still unning strong. i would not be worried about taking it on a read trip at all. you can get the same model as mine and find one that is all wheel drive too. that would be a 325ix. other cars that should run good when they are old:

VW but be carefull that you get one that is taken care of and also some are known to have problems.

***DO NOT GET AN AUDI!!!! everyone i talk to says that old audies are way more trouble and money then they are worth and my mom had one and from personal expeience i can say that this is true. same with Saab, only not as much so....

I would say that the cheapest, safest (atleast for how cheap it is), and most reliable car would be Volvo. i would expect a Volvo to hit the 400k mile mark before its end of its life, in most cases

Buy my '88 grand am for $1000.

I took it skiing last year a little bit, it was fine.

It starts perfect every time and runs good.

^in regards to my post..forgot to add something.

I just recently bought a 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport...it seriously is the perfect car for skiers/boarders. It has nice cargo room, all wheel drive, fog lights, and is madd rugged.

I reccomend getting an old impreza. The mechanic at the autobody I go to has one that has over 400,000 miles on it. If you got that Blazzer, you'd be lucky getting it to 100,000 miles. If your gettting a car as old as you are loking, don't buy domestic.

Subaru's and Toyotas will go forever or longer depending on the care. If it looks like a car thats had it's oil changed on schedule, has a decent body, and starts on the first try, I would worry too much. Most euro cars will go for pretty long (subaru i think used to be german, boxer engine and all). If it's high miles, check out the foot peddles. If they are worn badly, it's because it's been in a lot of stop and go traffic. Also, never dont buy it from a friend because they are giving you 'such a good deal', because they are likely ripping you off. Better to spend more now and less later than to have a piece of scrap sitting in your driveway by December.

okay. from experience, buying a $500 volvo and putting a new exhaust on it is the best thing i've ever done. 233,000 miles. it will run until 500,000 at least...

i was STILL going to buy one (for everyday, and pulling my dj trailer) till i pulled my trailer with one...it was TRERRIBLE . worse than my 4cylinder van. i got an isuzu rodeo, WAY better.

for an SUV with HIGH MILAGE:

isuzu rodeo

honda passport (same thing)

or

nissan pathfinder.

Skiing.

I wont ever tell you that your not good enough or that its not wokring out, it wont ever tell you that you were better off being a friend, it wont ever just leave you in the dark, and it wont ever do anything that you dont like.

that's a REAL nice thing to say, Scratchcobra.

hahah

no, but for real, I mean, I called about a blazer with 230k on it. Some run for a while, some don't.

if you're looking for an SUV, pathfinders and the sr5 toyotas run for a long time. good, reliable trucks that are fairly cheap to fix.

i just got a 96 subaru w/ 88k miles for $5000. yeah, more than you're looking to spend, i know, but subarus are probably the best overal skiier car. i get about 30mpg w/ my 4wd 2 door impreza, it's relaible, and it's fun to drive. i've read of older subarus running 300, 400, 500k miles. mine feels solid, and i'm very confident i'm going to have it till at least 250k miles.

everyone else has already said it, stay the hell away from domestics though. ford & chevy are crap on the reliability, for the most part.

mmmmmmm, subaru..... i love my car. on friday i was going into the driving range, big dirt driveway entrance type thing, i did the 90 degree turn at about 45 mph, and did a 4wd slide past the fence. w00t! i can't wait till it snows!

I went all around today to all... 4 dealerships my town has to offer. Anyways, all I saw were pieces of shit from the late 80's and early 90's, and overpriced economy cars from the mid to late 90s. I even saw this ugly ass thing that was selling for $5,000... it must have like 10km on it or something.

Anyways, I was at the Subaru / Mazda dealership looking for an old Impreza, no luck, but I found a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 there for $5,000 Canadian. Now, this is $4,000 more than I have to spend :P But... I've got some tricks up my sleeve, like giving them a great proposal on how to get their dealership online with a bunch of extras which is all work I'll do for them, and in return get them to knock a couple grand off the top.

Anyways, I like it, it's sorta sporty, sorta economy, the drive to the ski hill is easy enough that any car can do it, including my friend's really tiny, ~$500 hatchback. So I won't have to worry too much about this car, plus it'd be great in the spring and summer.

Here are some pics I took when I was there:

I think Anthony Boronowski in general is just a phase.

oo. right now i found a 96 jetta with 100k miles for 3700, a 97 civic with 75k miles for 48 or a 99 accord with 80k for 9ooo. what is the best bet?

i dont think i know anyone in my town with a subaru. maybe west hartford is really rich i think. anyone know of any of those cars above, which is the best?

(zach)

Volvo, pre Ford. Mines (or what will be mine) has got about 250,000 miles on it, and its running strong like no other. Handles snow, rain, ice, with ease. In 9 years its hyrdoplaned only once. A true beaster.

Don't by a Ford Escort. Ever. It's an unreliable piece of shit that isn't fun to drive.

i have this 88 mercury grandmarquis station wagon. complete with wood panels. my dad bought it for 800 with 120,000 miles on it. i now drive it with 227,000 miles on it. it still runs tip top and i can drive it long distances no problem. the other day the starter stuck and my engine wouldn't turn off but that's only happened once. get an old car they last a long time. new ones a desposible.

-chris

We had a volvo wagon that had about 250,000+ miles on it... my dad just gave it to my friend but it needed a little work so he sold it.

If you wanted to save up a little extra cash for a reliable car. Audis are super realible and you could get a 1994 s100 for about 2000-3000 USD.

patj

best car ever subaru wrz the thing looks so nice and go's like snot plus it's turbo charged with 300 hp stock all weel 4 weel drive .. it's been compared to 911 poursh . they are fucking amazing for skiing also .

---------------

Is it something i said so fuck you to.

I had an oldschool subaru Loyale and beat the shit out of it for 5 years and it never broke down on me. It cost me 1500 when i got it. It had 4wd and lots of space. They are great cars and last for a long time.

I checked the car out again, I love it even more now:

5-spd Manual

6 Disc CD Changer w/ 4 speakers

Keyless Entry

Highway: 43mp / City: 31mpg

Excellent Condition interior.

But, again, my dad knows nearly everyone in town (no joke) and he said the guy that owns this dealership is a crook. Hopefully my proposal will go through.
