Hey whats up Newschoolers, im new to this site and need some help from a local. Im packing up my skis and flying from Washington to Colorado for the rest of the winter. I am a college student in Bend Oregon but have recently decided to take the winter off and now I have been shredding at Stevens Pass Washington for the past month. A couple buddies and I rented a cabin 20 minutes South of Breck. The only problem is that I do not know anyone so I have no idea what to expect for jobs, transportation, hook ups, etc... Here are my questions:
Where do you recommend looking for a job? In town or at the mountain? Where is a chill place to work?
Hitchhiker friendly? (My buddy is driving down so i will have a car majority of the time but not all the time)
What mountain do you recommended for BC and steeps? (Im not afraid to hike)
Do they have volunteer passes at any mountains?
Any info would help or if anybody wants to show us around would be awesome.

i can help on what i knowhitch hiker friendly yesas for a job i think you are to late to work at the resort so i would look in the news paper and hand out a few applications as for steep breck has a fair bit abasin when they open the east wall and loveland pass of vail pass are great places to ski back countrty.
as for showing you around nope i dont ski breck have fun be safe

There's always high turnover at mountains so don' t be afraid to apply there.

Breck/A Basin have hike to steeps but truthfully neither compare to the steeps you find in the PNW.

20min south of breck, you must have gotten a place in alma. im sorry.

it is hitxhhiker friendly since there is nothing between alma and breck except one town, blue river.

apply to mtn jobs at skijob1.com

a lot of lifties get fired and such, and need to be replaced. if you get a job for any vail resorts, you get access to breck, keystone, and abasin, all within 30 min of breckenridge. for steeps, def want to check out abasin or loveland, breck and key are mostly flat and crowded, terrain park/family oriented, so any/all powder will be skied off within minutes. nichtlife in breck is amazing though, if your into that, but living in alma is hard, the road is windy and rough and its about a 30min drive on a good day. although it is cheaper, its full of a lot of no teethed old miners. but a few shredders here and there looking for cheap rent find themselves in alma as well.

a few of the rental shops may be in need of some seasonal help starting around meow. dont even bother looking for a job in alma. also, city market in breckenridge does some quality employment during the evening so you can shred during the days.

good luck!

Hey thanks for the info. So i found out the house is not in Alma, its somewhere in between there and Breck up a gnarly road off the highway. As for jobs I was hopin to get a name and go straight to the source and skip the corporate online application bullshit.

I cant wait to get out there, it looks like it dumping!!!!!

well even if you can get a name, the first thing they will ask you is if youve filled out an application, so id say start there for sure. good luck, sounds like youre just before alma in the town of blue river, or perhaps even farther, in fairplay. have fun!

blue river is just before alma? you make it seem like its not close, i lived there and was all of 5 minutes from the gondola. the only real problem with it is the lack of a bus route...and i wouldnt really call it a town, it has the same zip code as breck and no amenities of its own.

Hey so everything is coming together. Im flying into Denver on Sunday the 30th. I keep hearing about all the snow that has been falling, Im so pumped!! I have not arranged a ride yet so i was wondering if anybody is going to be traveling from Denver to Breckenridge or anywhere around there? I can help out on gas money. I will be traveling with two pairs of skis, a plastic tote that is 60 inches (all dimensions added up), and my backpack.
