I miss the old Pollard and Pep

Pollard's art is amazing and creative, his filming and editing are good, but I think his footy as a skier isn't pushing it like he was. I'll take his self edit from msp:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KVhl7-ziMI0 over anything he's done since. In my opinion, maybe his art, filming and editing has distracted him from the form of expression I admire him most for: skiing.

Also, I prefer Pep's style with poles:

Just my opinion. Your thoughts?

I completely agree. they are both amazing and unique skiers, but it really seems like they are just trying to look really effortless or like snowboarders. It's sick that they are doing something different and original, but to tell you the truth, i dont enjoy watching them as much as i used to.

Yeah I agree with this post. What they are doing right now is cool, But I just don't relate with it as much. I like watching their older footy more than "Idea" style riding.

i like their new style with rockered skis and no poles, they have started to get alot more creative. but like in idea i just think its wayyyy too relaxed, like its cool to have a chill segment or two but when the whole movie is so damn relaxed it makes you want to sleep, thats pushing it too far.
i think idea would have been alot better if they had some more upbeat fun music and editing, and maybe some more park stuff, especially rails, cause you really dont get to see the advantage of rockered skis in the park in idea, like if they were doing butters onto rails, huge presses, and just like buttering around the park more, that would have been sweet.

I agree with this thread, Pep's seg in Hit List, skiing pow in russia with AK Enemy's and Pollard's seg in Push and his self edit in Pull more the style I enjoy watching, because it's more like the way I am trying to ski. Landing and riding sw in pow is cool, but I don't need a whole movie of it.

I prefer fresh snow in the face, not up the butt.

buy realtime if you want to see to rails, idea is fucking sick. i watch that movie at least once a week, probably more.

I think pollard has evolved more as a skier since focused. He is doing some of the same tricks in idea and hunting yeti with the same smooth style just on bigger more tech features. As for pep I think he has become less of a "comp" athelete and more of a "film" athelete

Pow up the butt, that's funny.

I love what these guys are doing, because it's what they want to do, not what a production company wants them to be doing.

I think that the lack of pressure from a film company to perform has sort of made them slackers and they've stopped progressing the sport. Not that I don't think what they're doing now is sick it's just that they aren't pushing it the same as they used to

yea they were my old favorite skiers. They are still some of my favorite but I'm liking schiller a lot now too

Idea was such a sick movie, it was way more laidbackand chill then most films. I don't think pollard or pep are slacking off at all, the're style of skiing is helping to push skiing into a direction where you don't have to win all the comps or stomp 14s and doubles all day to become a big name in skiing.

fuck pep and pollard, i mean id love to ski where they do, but its so fucking boring.

Different..yeah? but different to me is what JON is doing for our sport....taking massive comps which people really enjoy to watch, with different features....and if he holds the next JOI event in NY for example, skiing will get alot more recognition and respect....show average people a JOI event, compared to Hunting Yeti and see what they say!!!

p.s I watched the first webisode of hunting yeti, and i probably wont waste another 5-10 mins of my life watching another one

hand drags. remember where those came from?

butters off cliffs in pow are so gay, i remember when they were doing cork 9s in the park, that was the shit.

sw 7 off a booter is so gay.

blah blah blah. i think you guys are forgetting what they actually did in idea. maybe if it was edited in a mashed up pbp style you would like them better. plus the shit their doing was teh 1st real year of it, i think they will really blow minds next year (or maybe in one of the upcoming hunting yeti edits), after they're been doing all this buttery/hand draggy shit for a while and can step it up even more.

I thought the first hunting yeti webisode was amazing. THe filming/editing/lifestyle etc. was awesome. Watching that webisode put a smile on my face cause they were jsut haveing so much fun skiing

No, I don't miss it.

I liked the old stuff, and I like the new as well.

Remember, all of the old stuff that you referenced was shot with a much much larger budget than they have had these last two years, so where they went to film as well as what angles could be afforded (ie heli) are different.

Personally, I would much rather have the athletes in complete control over how they are portrayed, where they ski, what gets into the movie, who is involved, etc. If I was a pro, that's how I would want it, and these guys have stepped out, took a risk, and taken control of their filming, and the product to me is much more representative of what I would rather watch than MSP or PBP. It feels more like skiing and less like every day is bluebird and full of hammers.

Props to what these guys have done and are doing, I'm sure that they are doing what is true to them, and I ask nothing more.

i miss it too, they had such interesting styles then, but then again i love it how they are skiing now.

chris benchetler's seggy in Yeah Dude is in my top 3 favorite segments of all time. relatively upbeat music, but still a chill vibe. Rockered skis...idea style, just poorboyz form.

Ok, I can understand how some skiers find it harder to relate with the kind of skiing that they are doing in idea, but seriously.

You cant say the north american open is that much better than the movie idea, they are both progressive, and are both pushing our sport, expanding it. If our sport only had one element of progression, it wouldnt be skiing anymore.

There is no doubt though, pep fujas and eric pollard have some sick segments and edits from a while ago, but if you put it in perspective, people dont continuously get better, sometimes you may hit an apex, which you cant match again. What there doing now though, is also really sick. Theyre just trying to do things that hasnt really been done, and thats progression. Its also why its difficult to relate. None the less, theyre still doing the nastiest corks and switch hits, and the fact of the matter is, they are just so incredibly styly, and thats their goal.

ha.  Nothing against Jon, for he's a good guy, but how is putting on an event "different".  You build features, that are the "same" for everyone hitting them.  Now, they may do "different" tricks, but there is a good chance you will see 94 of the "same" sw 1080s, 14 cab 12s, a few 1440s, and some double flips.  All shit you have seen before, but this time it is "different"?  OK....

Then you go to speak about recognition and respect.  Is that your reason for skiing?  Respect from others?  I personally thought it was about getting away from the shit ton crowds of people, and having fun while enjoying the freedom of just being in the mountains.

So, go ahead, show an average person JOI or Yeti.  T Hall is an average person.  TJ Schiller is an average person.  Chances are they will say that both JOI and Yeti are dope.

And to say "fuck pep and pollard"...man...you're a mess.  Don't waste 5-10 minutes of your life watching something you don't understand.  Let those that know spend 30 minutes of every other month watching something they usually have to wait until the fall to see.  At least they are stoked on the sport of skiing.

this is funny to see so much hate. idea and hunting yeti are my favorite ski movies of all time! the nimbus crew is hands down, my MAIN influence when it comes to skiing. i love watching the websodes, it totally makes me stoked to someday have that lifestyle that they live, with theyre sick sleds and trucks and to see how much fun they have as a group of friends going on tons of ski trips together. its cool to see the "behind the scenes" life of what you really go through making ski movies, which us skiers, that arent sponsered and/or pro can relate to. and its funny to see how there's kids out there who would rather just watch rail after rail (which is boring as shit to me) compared to watching andy and pep fuckin schralp pow like they do. im not sure but i think i can arguably say im the biggest nimbus fan, haha. i would love to meet those guys sometime . i always ski at ski bowl and the hood area hoping to see them haha. i cant wait to see their next movie! the websode from japan made me so stoked!

i think eric is better then ever, yes he isnt doing anything that new, but he is making everything look so much better, and ive never been a huge fan of pep, ill stick with andy

yeah well put andy, I love what pollard and those guys are doing. skiing is about being out their with your best friends and enjoying something incredible. these guys get out and shred the mountain every day and they film it from their perspective which is cool as hell. their style of movie gets me way more stoked to ski than anything else, i love how chill and real it is.

Threads a year old... And Pollard, Pep and Andy are all dope skiers. Major influence on the sport we all love. Bigups to anybody pushing the sport to higher levels.

I know a lot of people get stoked on watching private park sessions after the resort closes. While the skiing is amazing, it's a lifestyle few get to live. I watch a Nimbus movie and I can do everything they're doing. If I want to go build a big BC hip, I can. All I need is a sled. There's not much talking in their movies, but there's lots of skiing. So while Hunting Yeti was 30 minutes, it was probably as much skiing as you would get in any other movie. They go out and film skiing. They go out and have fun, that's why I ski. I like the laid back music and style of skiing. It gets me stoked. It fits powder. All I hear when skiing powder is wind. The music fits the skiing. Watch EnRoute, it showcases the fun in skiing. They produce movies for people who can appreciate skiing, not gapers who want to see the biggest tricks go off. The first day I had IDEA, I watched it 10 times. It was mesmerizing, I could relate to it, it made me feel like I was on the same level as them, I felt like a pro. I went out and skied. It didn't matter how good I was. I was having fun. That's all that mattered. What I like most is, they don't really care how they look. They don't need XXXL clothing. They just need a pair of skis and they're set. They're out there like you and me. They don't ski to make money, they don't need attention, they don't need to look like everyone else, they don't need to ski like everyone else, they just want to have fun like everyone else.

i love the new and the old. but the webisodes are the shit, cuz i love seeing all the other stuff besides skiing as well as the skiing

wow yeah dude thats exactly what i was trying to say haha, you just said it better. totally agreed.

the first time i saw idea, it made me go from knowing i was never going to be "good" at skiing compared to everyone else, to having a whole new type of confidince, like you said, more about having fun and being with your friends, not so much just the hype and publicity side of the sport. so cool.

i think the main point of the old stuff that is missed, is not necessarily the angles, but that they built and hit much bigger features and went bigger, i mean, the stuff they're doing is pretty cool and i doubt many can do it that smooth, but its not hard to try stuff off small cliffs and jumps, it doesnt really push your limits.

pollard did a right rodeo 7 in the backcountry for reasons. so i would say he still has it. and pep uses poles sometimes now, plus i still think he's steezy as hell without them.

now andy mahre, he doesnt have the same footage that he used to. thats a shame because he was always a personal favorite

i completely agree

but i also feel their styles have changed a little because they are getting older and jumping off big ass cilffs and jumps has major consequences. I mean im only 21 and i just feel like its not worth it anymore to get hurt that bad.

and the great thing is, they are still pushing the progression of the sport in a non "cab-14 extreme double mega flip" way in a safe and fun manor. nice job guys

not to mention there are still shots in IDEA and YETI that show they still can ski like its nobodys business.
