I know im not the first to think of this, but.....

This is along the lines of the question "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it then does it make any noise?". So if there is no one in the deep woods then does anything there exist? Stay with me for a moment, basically if there are no living creatures in some section of the woods, then what is there? Nothingness? How can we prove there is something there if no one is there to see it? If you set up a video camera and hit record and walk away, then of course it will film the woods, but if nothing is there to record the woods existence then who says theres anything at all? Maybe just out of sight things just stop and there is nothing, just blankness, emptyness. Maybe when you are walking in the woods alone and you blink, everything dissapears for a second, then you open your eyes and it comes back simply because you are seeing it. Maybe things are only there to be seen and when there is no one there to see them they dont exist.

things like that aren't going to change simply because no one is around. If that were the case, things wouldn't just appear when someone walked by and then disappear as soon as they were gone.

I dont care about the tree falling and making noise i care about the places we aren't looking and what is there.

Well it's the same stupid idea so yea...

Philosophy is dumb. Basically you win if you have sound logic. It doesn't matter what's right and wrong.

You missed a big part. Im saying if NOBODY is there. not just you as a single person. Like out in the middle of the desert somewhere.

also, i am not looking at what is behind me but i know that there isn't just a black space back there because there is lite shining on the wall in front of me, coming from behind me.

It isn't dumb as you might think...while it isn't possible for it to all not be there, it is very similar to Heisenberg's Uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics.

Basically, electrons don't exist until they are observed. They exist in "probability densities", then as soon as you observe them, they crash in to a singular location.

This "could" be extrapolated to a spec of dirt, or a tree, or whatever, that nothing exists until we actually observe it, that it really just as a "probability" of being there...

Unfortunately that somewhat falls apart when you realize the Uncertainty Principle only really works for electrons and other tiny subatomic particles, and not larger subatomic particles like the nuclei as a whole. So if we can always tell where a nuclei is, we pretty certainly tell that the tree will always be there.

it's simple... i guess you could be right, because you can never prove a theory like that... but it's about 99.999999999999999999999999 % accepted that the world is there. so that jsut solves that. i guess you could always take comfort in the fact that you may possibly be right.. even though its a .00000000000000000000000001% chance

Other than astronauts in space, nobody ever sees the earth as a whole. I'm not saying that the mass of earth isnt there, I'm saying when nobody is viewing soemthing then it might not look like it would when somebody actually looks at it. But then of course if we were to see something in the form it is when nobody is looking at it then we woiuld be looking at it so it would be normal.

Is this like that physics thing that you have a box and there is a cat of some type in there it is neither dead or alive until you open the box sort of thing?

the atmosphere is what makes noise thats why there is no noise in space number one and number 2 shit is always there hence the name MATTER it dosent fucking go away if were not there

end thread

so basically you're just proposing that when you look away from something it changes appearance or just disappears just to fuck with you?

this is a situation where you just have to be logical.

Well I'm not there and everything that I can hold to be real must be viewable by my own senses. Therefore Haiti is not real.

Go back to Phil 101 and get learned.

Im not saying that you dont fucking exist. Read the thread. Im saying things that NOBODY is looking at might not exist. Like the middle of a desert somewhere, where nobody is.

By this theory if I walked around with my eyes closed, forward and backward, I would be able to move around infinitely in any direction, until I happened on other people. Obviously I would end up walking face first into a tree, rock, etc. So you're wrong.

no. because they can exist. they just also can not exist. there is a possibility of either.

Well, technically speaking said person who took the shit is around to smell it so by that logic that concept of yours wouldn't work would it?

technically no because smell is only a sense that we get when the molecules hit our nose and it produces a 'smell' that our brain recognizes. Without a nose to sense the smell there is no smell

So i was pondering another one of life's questions the day as well. Is there such thing as a vegan that swallows? Just think about it.

I THOUGHT A THOUGHT

BUT THE THOUGHT I THOUGHT

WASNT THE THOUGHT I THOUGHT I THOUGHT

IF THE THOUGHT I THOUGHT WAS THE THOUGHT I THOUGHT

I WOULDNT OVE THOUGHT SO MUCH

And I'm just saying that the only thing that matters is what I can sense. We aren't some interconnected species that can communicate to everyone what we are seeing. Therefore, if I don't sense it, it doesn't exist.

I'll say it again. Go back to Phil 101. You're ideas are shit.
