I just saw the Dalai Lama on the west steps of the Capitol. He received the Congressional Gold Medal today.  It was pretty sick. He had a lot of good stuff to say.  The usual "nonviolence" stuff.  He was actually somewhat funny.  Anyway just wanted to put that out there. Maybe start a discussion about what's going on with Tibet and China.

I completely agree. Tibet isn't doing anything to anyone and it's so small.  Actually it supposedly has a fair amount of natural resources, but still. They need to let Tibet do its own thing.  Im not sure if you all knew this, but new Lamas have to be approved by the Chinese government according to new law, so when the Lama right below the Dalai was reincarnated, they didn't approve him and they just put in someone who was more sympathetic to their views. Such BS.

haha thats kinda all tibet will do. theyre not going to start a war against china cause they just simply cant win

you know he wears doc martin's under that robe? i hear it's his favorite shoe. the man's got good taste.

on a similar subject, i saw the pope when i was in italy over the summer at st. peter's basilica.

HA hes comming here to IU in like a week

his bro was a professor and like relative...maybe son?? fuck well he's got some close relative thats going here...should have rushed the kid haha

i do agree that china is in the wrong with what they are doing however it has happened all over the world in many different places.

such as cuba during the 60s and 70s where the U.S tried to invade, and still has trade embargos in place because it is a communist threat where they to billions of dollers of buisness with the former USSR

or the french and the african nations during the 30s to gain the rubber plantations.

and lets not forget recent wars in the middle east which does have and underlining motives of friendly leadership for the sake of oil.

again the chinese do have a bad habit of taking over countrys without thinking of diploamcy such as taiwan, manchuria, nepal and obviosly tibet. however china has done some good with these countrys such as introduced medical aid, fresh water and the backing of a massive economy so i guess its not all bad.

The dalai lama is chill though i have a book of his buddhist teaching and his biography.

The former USSR is the big one there. Not communist anymore. Anyway. Hopefully they will eventually come to their senses.

i watched some movie on him a few years ago, just randomly in the interview he would crack a joke and start laughing i thought he was ripped but he seemed like a super cool guy

my parents are buddhist (i am too but more philosophically, my mom is hardcore though) my parents knew some friends who were coordinating his first visit to the U.S. when I was just born. they took me to his hotel when I was a baby, and he blessed me, which I didnt really understand the significance of until I found out what great lengths people go to to see him in tibet and nepal.

anyways, the U.S. did some fucked up shit in tibet. as usual, we armed them against communism (china) and then left them high and dry later.

hahaha.

i'll follow your example and take the thread the wrong direction.

i just saw the llama on tv.
