we are the 4rth most educated country in the world and that is a new developement,most of this I would guess is because of all the drugs and rebels that are coming out now more then ever. I totally agree that the video was a fucking joke and ridiculous, but come on. You can't just stereotype the entire country. Because you know what? There are just as many ignorant fucks in canada, france, UK, Australia, anywhere.

I personally find it very ironic that these types of things pop up on NS and poeple can bash/stereotype/criticize/group these people together about being ignorant, when in fact stereotyping is the largest form of ignorance.

Again I agree that those people were fucking morons, but how many people did know the answers and then they just didn't edit them into the tape. Depeneding on where you go, just like every country, I would bet there was just as many who knew them as who didn't, if not many, many more.

I hate the average american so fucking much it makes me sick to think about it. People are so much more caught up in celebrity life, fashion, and what is cool then what actually goes on in the world. Why can't we just bomb ourselvs and make it all better?
 
Having been to those places, I can honestly say I've had more bewildering, stupid things said to me by americans than all other countries combined easily. Even accounting for the encounter rate. In fact, ironically enough, the only really dumb questions re: Canada, or dumb statements re: world politics I have had cast in my general direction while in europe have been from American tourists there. There are idiots everywhere... there is a great deal more arrogant ignorance in your backyard than anywhere else, though, in my experience.

The tendency seems to be that such comments come from people from the south, the east, and to some extent the midwest... Pretty much never from the PNW or Cali.

The real dumbfucks are the guys you meet on cruise ships. Wow, is all I can say to that.

To be fair, I will mention that the Americans are mosst often much nicer than are the europeans. The Italians particularly can be a bunch of cocks. Possibly because they assume I'm american unless I have a flag somewhere on me.

Yesssssssssssss PNW!! I hear what you saying, I would say from the time I spent in Europe that I had alot of dumb comments and just general stupidity compared to where Im from in the PNW. It just depends on what your used too and where your from. I most likely tune out the stupid crap around here but when other places I tune into everything. But (this is no longer geared to wards you JD_May) I don't take those experiences and say the whole country is stupid, and then choose to spout out on NS about it every chance I get.

I'd take a video like that with a grain of salt. I could pick any general populous in the world and justify their stupidity. History have PROVED that group rule is a breeding ground for stupidity. The only reason the ignorance is different in nature between groups of people is because of what their culture has taught them is important and what is not. Why do French violently riot in the streets over a bill? Why do people in the Middle East kill and torture over petty disagreements? Why do many people in Africa believe that sleeping with virgin kills AIDS? Why can't Americans find Spain on a map? Why did the Germans believe the Nazi doctrine of exterminating Jewish people and creating a tyrannical authoritarian government? How about Scientology? Jim Jones? Why do communist supporters still exist? Why did the crusades happen? People are morons. Many leaders, intellectuals, and people power have channeled this kind of group thinking for a living. yeah, the truth is that more americans died inthe civil war than the world wars. but most likely this guy was told by a friend or a misleading source of information, and believed it. the problem is that he didnt show any initiative to think about whether or not thats true. its perfectly obvious that a civil war in a small country (at the time) would be far overshadowed by a war that claimed over ~~50 million lives. what with (in order of people killed, greatest to smallest) russia, japan and germany out killing people based on race, youd think one or two people died. the americans takeover is a joke compared to the japanese. in two days they fucking raped more than half the number of americans that died in a 4 year war.

No. What the American school system need is complete reform. US public education shit. Comparatively it is very good compared to the rest of the world, but it is a huge underachiever to it's potential.

lots of people, people of weak character i might add, don't seek out their own beliefs. Instead they rely on tradition because tradition means it's "okay." It's one thing to have certain principles because you've saught them and came to your own conclusions on your own terms, than to allow for your conclusions to be shaped FOR you. that is my whole point.

everyone in the world needs to start giving a shit and finding out why they have the opinions they do, not just americans, people in general.

leaders are not idiots, they're rather clever, but that doesn't mean they make rational decisions.
