and it was amazing,

started in Cali- down to ensenada

Hawaii

Japan

China

Hong Kong

Viet Nam

India

Mauritius

South Africa

Ghana

Brazil

ended in florida

and had the time of my life

some highlights-

Skydiving over table mountain, Shark cage diving, Vortex trance festival in S. Africa, hookers, Rio is amazing, saw the Taj...

pretty much just raged everywhere- I recommend anyone who has the chance to do semester at sea to do it, there is a ton of financial aid out there for it. If anyone has any questions about it let me know

Wow NS has gotten classy-

It was through the university of Virginia, I took 12 credits on a cruse ship- it lasted 109 days. We would take class for about 8 days then have like 10 days in each port to do whatever we wanted to.

The ship was a converted cruise ship that is 590ft with 8 decks into a floating university- it had everything including a bookstore, library, comp lab, classrooms, a bar, pool.....

you are so goddamn annoying

OP - that sounds epic dude. what'd you think of Ghana? thinkin about taking a trip there

Yeah- it was realllllly expensive- prob twice the out-of-state tuition i pay in AZ- but def. worth it

all in all- tuition, expenses and independent travel I prob spent 35g- but very worth it.

this sounds like it would be such a blast!

you should post some pics of all the cool places you went to.

PPS Ensanada is a shit hole, or atleast last i was there. lolollo

for 35 grand i could probably travel around the world for a well over a year, so in my eyes it would be cool, but far, far from worth it. My program at school has a studio in Rome (in addition to semester at sea), and it is even worse of a deal at nearly $15k after expenses for eight weeks. I'll be traveling for about 50 days at maybe around $3k, so... extend that out to over 100 days and I'm still well below $10k, and I dont have to do shit for school and do what i want. illlllll

Despite the fact that I generally don't like cruises and it was probably really expensive, I bet that was ridiculously fun. 0.o which country were the hookers involved? You gotta be careful with hookers some places.

Some places we would have 10 days, others just 5 or so- and some countries we stopped in 2 places.

Hookers- Vietnam and Japan- and yeah i think u have to be careful with sluts everywhere

although i don't know what the op did in ghana, i can tell you from experience that ghana is fucking amazing. spent 2 weeks there 2 summers ago and ive never had so much fun in my life. met some awesome people and had a blast. make sure to go to random villages and shit and meet people. they all loved us so much and treated us really well. everyone thought we were rich americans and every 5 seconds i heard "obruni give me money!!!"

Hah! $35,000!?!?! I could, while occasionally working, travel the world for ten years with that amount. I'm not joking at all.

I wanted to do Semester at Sea so bad, but with scholarships and financial aid it still came out to 20,000$

For some reason this $35,000 doesnt sound that much. Many colleges have a tuition of 50,000+, so 25,000 a semester. For 10,000 extra you travel the world and have the experience of a lifetime, while still learning as though you were on campus. This is still a pretty steep price, but I think if you compare it to the general tuition of some of the more prestigious colleges its not so bad. He also mentioned some extra financial aid, so it could end up costing a lot less than 35,000.

good 4 u!

I have no regrets whatsoever doing this- it was expensive but completely worth it. I did not have to take any time off school, and had a room that traveled along with me so I never had to take a huge bag around and could buy a bunch of stuff and not have to carry it around everywhere.

With the amount of money I would have spent on plane tickets, accommodation and everything- I think semester at sea was the right choice for me, that being said I would not do it again, it gave me experience I thought I had, but in reality did not at all- to be able to travel and make my way around in countries where I did not speak the language, did not know the laws.

Now I want to travel Europe and Australia-

and FOR SURE will return to S.E. Asia- Vietnam was paradise, and I want to go to Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia soooooo bad.

so huh, all this talk about land, but what did you think of the ocean? its another world in itself if you've been so fortunate enough to be 100's of miles from the beach.

I'm curious - did you loan the 35 grand from somewhere or get a job for it? That kind of cash doesn't just drop in overnight.

I don't mean to sound like a crazy person here, but I could get a loan for a sick ass house with low interest if I had 35 grand, just like that.

hmm sounds a lot like Zack and Cody: Suite life on deck haha...but so sick im def going to look into this...was it only for this past semester or did they do another trip last semester...pics!

I am terrible at uploading pics to NS.... and I have over 2000 pics from the trip- hard to pick a few good ones...
Answer some q's-
The program is every fall/spring/summerFall and spring give 12-15 creditsSummer9-12Summer is a lot cheaper, and usually goes around Europe...
I go to NAU and they held my western union exchange program off for a year and the only thing I had to pay NAU was $100 for a study abroad application, no tuition there.
I will try to get more pics up on here... I might just make a blog with a bunch of good pics and put a link to it on this..
Some people ask me if I have ever paid for sex. The answer is yes, its pretty cool actually- you can negotiate pretty much anything and sometimes do things in the spur of the moment and they go by without much argument.

yeah i mean honestly it may seem like a lot but to do everything that you did and to have that kind of experience it seems reasonable! that's so awesome tho, semester at sea is a great opportunity and not too many students take advantage of it! stoked you had a great time and you made it back safe!

last time I checked, it costs nearly 3 grand to get round trip tickets to many places in asia.
