Hey everyone, some of you may have heard that I was taking part in a study abroad program called Semester at Sea, where I lived on a ship for 3 months sailing around the world and visited different countries along the way. Well I'm now back in Washington, stoked to get back to skiing and see friends and family, not have to convert currency when I buy things, and know that most people speak my language, but also bummed that the greatest 3 months of my life is over. I'm writing this to inform any college students or soon to be students of an incredible opportunity to see the world and make some of the best memories of your life. If anyone here is considering studying abroad, I would HIGHLY encourage you to consider doing SAS, and although I don't claim to be any sort of expert on the countries I visited, if anyone has any questions about the program and my experiences, I would be thrilled to talk to you about them. Hope everyone is enjoying the skiing and life in general.

Peace,

Brian

thats rad dude. what sort of countries did you visit?

and did you sence and hostilities/positive vibes?

Left from Mexico, 1 day in Hawaii, then about 5 days in each of the following: Japan, Hong Kong/Beijing China, Vietnam, Burma, India, Egypt, Turkey, Croatia, Spain, ended in Florida. Pretty fucking stellar, let me tell you. Oh and just another bit of info for the guys, usually theres about 600 students on the ship, and generally its 70% female population. Keep that in mind.

I got a little nautious a couple times, when we crossed the Atlantic the swells were pretty rough, but nothing too bad. The ship is pretty small in terms of cruise ships but still seems pretty massive being on it. It has a pool, weight room, and all sotrs of other cool shit.

The people in all the Asian countries we visited were all extremely nice and friendly, specifically Burma, which is an incredible place that you should look into if you havent already. Most of the people in India were real friendly but I definitely had a few occassions of people trying to fuck me over. Egyptians and Turks were super nice, but I felt a bit unwelcome in Croatia and Spain, probably because the cities we visited are generally overwhelmed by tourists anyways. Oh well.

so what happens if you are about to hook up with one of these girls on the ship and you realise you dont have any protection. Its not like you can just drive to the store. And what, next stop is china? your going to buy condoms in china? ha

that actually sounds awesome but i don't know if i could stay on a boat for that long.

o yea and for the days you weren't at sea but at a country or w/e, was it like 5 days of doing w/e you wanted, or did you have restrictions and stuff. and also, were you allowed to bring anyone back to the ship. aaaaaaaaand how much dough was it.

i've always wanted to do something like that, i can't wait to! sounds like you had a ton of fun, i'm so jealous.

I took a few of them. The classes I took were:

Comparitive Religious Ethics

Comparitive Politics

Intro to Marketing

Global Studies

The only restrictions were that you couldnt leave the country we were docked in. You could go anywhere in the country, just had to be back before the ship left. And no you couldnt bring back locals to the ship, just girls that were on the ship, which wasnt a problem. As for money, it was about $20,000....yeah, a lot I know...but you figure some people pay over $40,000 a year for tuition at some schools, and this includes your room and board, food, tuition, all that stuff. I just equated it to taking out a car loan after you graduate, which many people do, and I chose this instead. It's worth 100 times what I paid.
