I Hope Shaun White Doesnt Win Pipe Gold In The Olympics.

Why hate on Shaun White and what he does? He goes big and does tricks that no one else can do. Now i agree the whole hidden pipe and not showing/telling what his tricks are going to be is crap, that will not help progress a sport. But he trains hard and goes big, give props where they are due.

America wins another gold and that's a good thing, so why say you don't want him to win if he brings home gold for the US?

Ski SuperPipe should be in the Olympics. Just like Skier X should be as well. Don't understand why it isnt...

Unless you are not a US resident you should not hope for anything but gold..This is the Olympics, not Dew Tour, its all about the athletes representing your home country. Im not a huge SW fan, but a US medal is a US medal

they actually judge somebody on his run and not on his personnality, so yeah, he deserved to win, douchebag or not, he's clearly on top of everybody

i kinda feel the same way. like shaun white's cool, and i want americans to win golds but the other day my MOM started talking to me about how good shaun white is and about how amazing his home setup is and shit.

Shaun white has become the michael phelps of two years ago

Shaun White is the king. And if he painted his face yellow and painted his neck green, you haters would all want to wear his red-headed mug on one of those gigantic t-shirts of yours.

Suddenly everybody on NS loves Shaun White.

i know fuck all about snowboarding but i can appreciate the skill of shaun white. he's the best there is and deserves to win. it sounds like everyones jealous because he puts snowboarding into the lime light and not skiing. if there was a skier equivilent to shaun white you guys would probably love him. who cares if he's an absolute dickhead, that doesn't mean he shouldn't win. he is probably one of the hardest working athletes in the world and deserves everything he's got.

this. if he throws down the hardest, he deserves to win... and about the private halfpipe, if you had the chance to have your own private halfpipe, wouldnt you take it?

No. He does not. He is great in the pipe, not on the mountain. Seth, Sage, Abma, Tanner.....The list is endless of those who are better than Shawn White where it counts.

Among snowboarders the list is also endless. Travis Rice, Jeremy Jones, Nicolas Muller, Gigi.....Those guys all Destroy White where it counts.

White might be the best at halfpipe. I don't care. Olympic mogul skiing is far more impressive. So is Downhill, Super G.......

If you have more respect for White than any other skier you need to get out of the park more.

For the record, I am happy he won. He deserved it. He is amazing in the pipe. Personally I care about the Verbier Extreme more than some halfpipe competition, but White is great in the pipe.

He is far from the best snowboarder in the world, but he is the best in the halfpipe.

When he wins the Verbier Extreme, or has a great Alaskan segment I will anoint him something more. He is not the best all-around, but give the man his due. He KILLS halfpipe.

Just to set a couple things straight,

For the record, he has 16 X games medals, 3 are summer x, 13 are winter x, and 10 of those are gold (5 slopestyle, 5 pipe).

T-Hall has a total of 11 X medals, 7 gold (3 slope, 3 pipe, 1 big air)

Shaun is clearly a more accomplished contest athlete.

And as far as being only a pipe jock, do yourselves a favor, and find a cope of "First Descent" It's a move of Shaun ripping Alaskan lines with Terje, Shaun Farmer, and others. Yeah, he kills pipe, be is more well-rounded than he gets credit for.

I agree that he is a more accomplished contest athlete than Tanner.

I have seen first descent. White's AK big line footage in that film back my point up completely. It is okay, but nothing special. He really was not particularly impressive. He is FAR from a great big mountain rider. He is a long way behind Rice, Jones, Muller......And numerous others. Until he improves that aspect I will not see him on their level.

Tanner Hall blows White away in Alaska. To me, that means much more than halfpipe. You don't have to agree, but there is not doubt that THall has him in big lines.

Oh, I'm not saying that White is better in the backcountry. I was responding more to the people that are saying that his is nothing but a pipe jock, that can't ride anywhere but the pipe. He has pretty much dominated slope for the last few years as well, he just doesn't get the recognition for it as much. No doubt that there are better backcountry riders out there. But they are guys that have spent the majority of their lives riding backcountry. If I remember right, Tanner was labeled as a park jock up until the last few years. Then, for whatever reasons he got out of the park and started killing the backcountry. I'm 99% sure that at some point, when he gets tired of park, that Shaun will move into the backcountry. I guess it's kind of a natural progression of pro riders.

I agree with you. I was not trying to label him as nothing but a pipe guy, even though I came off that way.

Tanner was labeled a park rat, but he came from Montana, and always maintained that he could do other things. He has made huge strides. He can throw down in AK now.

It will be interesting to see what White does. To this point, he has not devoted much of his time to backcountry/big mountain, so he has a long way to go. But can we really blame him? He makes 10 million a year to do what he does. While life is not all about money, that kind of cash allows one freedom to do just about anything they want. It would be tough to walk away from that sort of life to spend more time on big lines. I have never seen an interview where Shaun came off as extremely arrogant. I have never seen him say something like "I'm the best in the world." While people who are serious about skiing/snowboarding don't rate him the best, to the rest of the world he is a megastar. I would not blame him if he kept on doing his thing.

To retire with 40 million in the bank in your early 30's and THEN go off and do Alaskan stuff would be really fun. I'd take that.

Not too many people get to do something that is incredibly fun and make 10 million a year at it. You can call him(or Dumont) a sellout for getting money from Target, but I think most of us would take that in a heartbeat.
