does anyone feel the same way? i want him to loose so i can laugh at him and his fans because they are other rippers that kill it in the pipe, and the bandwaggoners of shaun white need to see that. Shaun is good, i'll give him that, but him and his cocky attitude, i dont like. his private pipe, and him on 60 mins trying to hide all his tricks, trying to make them "private." come on man, you greedy bastard.

and hes like a non coked out carrot top looking bitch.
 
Well considering the 2 guys who had the potential to beat him are out, I'd say he's got a clear shot at gold. I wish the judges would deduct 10 points for every repeat grab.
 
after watching his thing on 60 mins, towards the end he talks about competing with friends. if his friend wins he doesnt want to hang out with him because its a bummer that shaun didnt win. come on dude. support your buddies. fuckin prick.

Exactly.

Part of the problem here is that there doesn't seem to be the same quantity of level of similar talent in the snowboarding superpipe. At this point, any pro ski pipe contest is up for grabs between a group of about 10-15 riders. That may change if Rolland keeps up this three dubs per run insanity, but right now it does seem to be a bit more wide open. We had our years of Simon and Tanner, or CR and Candide and Jon, but it's open right now and I like that a lot.

Snowboarding doesn't seem to have the same number of people that can compete at White's level. Maybe a couple, but it's not ten or so. That's a bummer, but I don't blame them because they don't have a private pipe to train in or the monetary support that White has.

My biggest problem with the private pipe was that he had a helicopter at Silverton and decided to ride a halfpipe instead of all the sick freeride terrain. Huge waste, at least from my perspective.

Anyway. If White's getting you pissed off, pick up Neverland and watch T. Rice's segment and the opening Japan segment. Or Xavier de la Rue in Black Winter. Or anything Jeremy Jones has ever filmed. All of those guys are super inspiring.

 
All you people bitching about Shaun White, just make yourselves seem INCREDIBLY jealous of him. Sorry, but he's more popular that all of skiing. And until you realize that, you're just going to keep sounding like whiny bitches.
 
thats retarded. regardless of his personality and the fact that no one likes him, you can't deny the fact that he absolutely destroys the halfpipe. He had by far the best pipe run at X, and I really don't see anyone else coming out of the woodwork and winning the Olympics.....unless of course he falls. Its going to be basically the same comp. If Mitrani had stomped his run, I would say that was the next closest and he isn't in the Olympics.
 
well i don't agree with this thread except for the private pipe part, i think it is pretty stupid to isolate yourself from the rest of your sports community just so you can beat everyone else.
 
yeah he is way too competitive to where he hurts the sport. He is going to end up killing snowboarding even tho the effects of it wont be felt for another five or ten years but he will it will happen.
 
shaun white is the most influential action sports athlete in the 2000ands.without shaun, the snow industry would be less profitable, less progressive, and less known. all the emo kids probably wish this, but i sure don't. shaun deserves and earns everything he has. and as far as the private halfpipe, give it up NSers. tony hawk has a private skate halfpipe. danny way had a private mega ramp for years, brian deagan had a private motocross track, jon olson has a near private water ramp, simon had a private qp, get over it....he wanted to progress, not be bitten, and red bull footed the bill. would you deny yourself this opportunity?i hope shaun white wins gold.
 
Haha come on, hes the best half pipe rider out there atm as Davis and Kevin are injured, so he deserves to win. And I understand why he wanted to keep his new tricks private, look in NZ last season he was pretty much the only one doing dubs and now everyone is doing them. People catch on quickly. And for sure he's a super competitive dude, but I think part of thats what helped him get where he is today. And I know why people like Davis who seem always stoked are much more likable the Shawn who is always super competitive, but I still don't think he deserves all the hate he gets.

Ive watched some interviews with him and he seems pretty down to earth guy.The only thing that could make me think the other way is Sal Masakela,he sounds like he has an organism when Shaun is riding.Its not Shaun that made him hypht,its the community,if you watched x games big air,it wasn't mens sbd pipe final,it was Shaun White final.After all,it doesnt take him much do to a new trick.That guy deserves every penny that he earns.

I agree with you all the way dude. Shaun is really the best pipe boarder around, no one compared to his run. I think if Vito would have landed his 1440 he would have had a chance but he didnt. I do think that shauns prelim pipe run was way over scored for what he did, but thats done and over. Look at what shaun white did at X13, he was the only boarder(outside of T-rice and he hurt himself) who crossed crossover canyon in slope. He goes bigger than any other boarder or skier in pipe. He went 23ft out in his run while the biggest skier or boarder went at most 20 and he continued to stay huge his entire run.

I have made it clear in other posts I am not a fan of White but I do respect his ability, the stuff he does isnt easy and he makes the sacrifices to win over filming. Hes a competitor and only trains, hes put out only two films, the alaska one and the japan one. While others compete and then go travel looking for snow for filming. If anyone watched truth in motion, shaun trains like the the Olympic skiers do.

Look at Jon, he hasnt really competed at because hes trying to build his racing back up because he wants an olympic metal and the chance to represent sweden in the biggest snow sports event in the world.

Like ON-3P0 said, go watch T-rice or J.Jones, those guys are hardcore riders. They represent more what NS is about than S.White. and the frends crew has thier own pipe. I was actually told that on NS.

To all the Americans here, if you dont like him, cheer for him anyway, he representing the United States and as much as you all might hate it, he still is and will win the metal for his country and himself. I personally am going to be cheering for Scotty Lago, hes one of my favorite riders out of skiers and boarders.

shaun white is american. i want to see my country win as much as possible. therefore i want to see him win. even if he is a ginormous toolbag.

the only thing i have against the kid, is every person that i know that has met him has said he was a jerk to them. but he slays, period. and if you idiots were offered a private pipe, dont even tell me you wouldnt take it.
 
i hope he wins it too, but i would rather see it be more of a competition than him just beating everyone by a huge margin. If there were 2 or 3 riders of his ability all competing in the same event it would make it soo much better than watching a fight for second.
 
I guess we can't really bitch about his private pipe considering that andreas has a private park and we all seem to love andreas(hes awesome). I didn't see the interview where shaunwhite said that he tries to hide tricks, but if that is true then that is kind of gay.
 
He is so ill at snowboarding. But he is a dick. But sense the Olympics is not based on personality this is a very dumb thread.

No he shouldn't. Shaun's run was better. I don't like the guy and I don't even have american national pride to bias me but his run was the best. If Kazuhiro had landed his run he would have outscored Peetu probably. Only Iouri of the non-injured riders has a run to challenge Shaun's and he didnt throw his best.
 
I don't know the guy personally but I have a lot more respect for him after last nights win. He went bigger on his victory lap and that's the first time I have ever seen that in skiing or snowboarding. Maybe there is an example out there that I have missed, but his second run was epic and he could have just gone down making turns and rooster tailing the lip, like others have done in the past. The guy's great at what he does, he always wants to prove it and he puts on a great show for the crowd. If he was all about winning only, he wouldn't have thrown 3 doubles on his victory lap.
 
I was rooting for Scott Lago there. But it is cool that 2 Americans got on the podium. I am happy that Vito kid didn't get anything, he seems like a douche nozzle.

that said, ski superpipe in the 2014 olympics would be awesome. Because right now the main stream Olympic viewer thinks freeskiing has only progressed to the "d-spin" in the moguls. their minds would be blown with someone like Kevin Rolland.
 
All I have to say is I ski. And I have more respect for Shaun white than any skier out there. His skills in air are far better than any of us... show some respect to a man that has innovated our sport by innovating his!
