I have a very rare set of skills...

So chatting with Balto has lead me to believe that what i can do is not such an every day thing.

Backstory. My dad is an artist. Teaches jewelry, metalsmithing, photography, and drawing at a local college. When he first started, in his spare time he would make bronze sculptures. Started out with bats and frogs and other things like that. He sold those sculptures at his friend's small store in NYC. One day, he got called by the Natural History Museum there in New York City; they wanted him to construct scale sculptures of some dinosaurs and he agreed.

That brings us to today. Once he did that, he didn't stop. He's made a shit ton of different species and they're all baller as fuck. Examples:

To this day, they are the most exact models on the market. How does he do it? Well that's a whole other story involving lots of roadkill. Let's get into that later.

So here's where I come in. A few years back I learned how to produce these sculptures and now I can turn a velociraptor out in about an hour. I'm a fucking artist, bitches. That's enough of me for now. Onto the good part.

a year or two back his friend came to him about assembling a real fossil skeleton for him. The dinosaur is called psittacosaurus. He build a frame, repaired vertebrate and other parts, and assembled it all and it looks badass. I don't currently have pictures but I'll certainly get some. He's done 2 more since then, and is working on another now. In about a month we go to deliver that skeleton in MA and then bring two more back. I think these might be raptors. I've been watching the assembly now from day one on each of the dinosaurs and my dad wants me to assemble the second raptor myself. Holy shit I'm going to be fucking famous.

Well that's my story. When the next 2 skeletons come in, I'll be sure to document the entire process so you guys can see it all, and atm I'm working on putting together a small edit of what goes into creating a bronze sculpture that I'll post here! That's all for now!

tl;dr I bring dinosaurs back to life.

kind of.

oh and here's a tiny picture of the first assembly he did of the psittacosaurus:

wow dude that's fucking sick!

Yo if you want to really be famous, take some pages from Damien Hirst's notes and cover that skeleton in diamonds.

Two words. Fucking Rad. but seriously these are sweet and being able to make these by yourself is impreddiv

Forgot something!

Spielburg one a few of these sculptures

Harrison Ford has one or two

Ben Stiller has one

etc...

but that is seriously awesome to be able to do things like that. haveing stuff that you put together in famous museums is a pretty big deal.

Yea I have a feeling that 99% of the kids on NS could not afford this type of stuff. This seems like next level badassery.

As a child I was an insanely mad dinosaur fan, this brings it all back again!

That's really cool, those sculptures are awesome!

That's pretty damn awesome, and the whole road kill thing sounds interesting. I'll definitely be following anything you post about the process.

wow impressive... reminds me of this thing i had when i was little you had to crack the bones out of clay and build a dinosaur haha but not even close to that

holy shit dude make skiing sculptures if its not too expensive! how sick would that be? something simple like an NS. or a skier doing a hand plant. or a skier doin a handplant on an ns?!!!!

thats fucking sick.

not hating, but that being said, it's not a very rare set of skills. there are a lot of really awesome sculptors out there.

i hope that raptor works out though. sounds like a career boost x10
