I have a powder question

I have been confined to the East all my life and never skied powder. Ever. So I dont know what its like. The closest I can say I have ever skied powder is a few days ago when I skied right through a fresh patch of snow that has been blowing for about 4 hours straight. I hit it and immediately flew out of my skis pulling a superman in the process. I have to say it was kinda fun but not something I would wanna do in public again. Maybe on my own time. Anywho, is real powder so uber sticky that Ill just fly right out of my bindings or was it just because it was man made snow?

nah, that's man made. real powder is light and delicious, and you can ski through it without effort and it feels like you're flying. you need to try it

that wasnt powder that was man made shit. real powder is fluffy and beautiful and you will surf over it like nothing.

but it's so different. I had plenty of foot+ eastcoast pow days in Maine. but then I moved to montana and started skiing 3%. whole different story

i love it when you cut a hard turn on a steep slope in deep deep blower pow.

the snow shoots up between your legs and tickles your johnson.

powder bj.

thats awesome, man made pow is more like getting hit straight in the balls... if you can get it to spray

You should do anything you can to go ski powder soon because you'll never get a better feeling. POW IS... undescribable.

ahaha

"maybe on my own time"

I could just see some kid skiing into some snow and flying off over and over again.

anyway, that aside skiing pow is awesomeness. it feels so fluid and everything is so damn soft.

i really dont like it when people complain about the east and no snow...of course its no utah but there is a ton of snow and if you want powder you just need to know where to look

PS there is alot alot of backcountry in the east (with lots of pow) contrary to popular belief

Currently living in Utah where the license plates say "Greatest Snow On Earth" is pretty baller as far as powder. having a pass to Alta makes it that much better. It's incredible. I can't describe it.

why dont you just go out west to snowbird utah to find what u want. i was just there and right after i lift to come back to CT it snowed about, i say , your height or so?....3 ft

Sorry but I went to your link and this is juts plain wrong:

"It also means that it works your calf muscles…a lot.

(1) While skiing powder, you should keep a neutral stance, or even lean SLIGHTLY back. "

There is a lot of great EC pow to be had with some incredible BC to be had. Start of with some of the stuff available on Mansfield.

definitely do not listen to this..mainly the mansfield part. it can get pretty dangerous up there especially if you dont know what your doing. mansfield has some high consequence lines that would absolutely NOT be good for a beginner in the BC, let alone pow.

if your looking to get into some bc PM me and i can hint you to some pretty cool little bc shots in mass and ny.

Dont listen to it? Do you lean back in powder?

Let me also be clear, I was simply pointing out to others that the EC has some great powder skiing. In addition, there are many many nice starter shots on Mansfield. Ask around and get a tour.

I said keep a neutral stance, or lean back SLIGHTLY.

Wow. In waist deep powder you can't really lean forward without tip diving. Keeping a neutral stance is best, but to find that perfect balance spot between tip dive and leaning back is a difficult task. Thus, leaning back just enough so that you don't roll down the hill every turn is probably not a terrible thing.

i live in the east (Ontario) so i know what its like...I've only had 1 day of pow skiing in my 6 years of skiing ....mind you i ski only once a week....but it was at the beginning of the year and it was the best Ontario skiing I've ever done...super fluffy.... you shouldn't feel uncomfortable if you hit real powder...unless it like3+ feet h aha

no..you don't lean back slightly, minimally or any other way.All leaning back will do is tire you out because you'll be unnecessarily using your quads.

whatever, we have differing opinions on how to ski powder. The powder at my mountain is too heavy for me to lean forward in.

homemade. by your grandma.

and I have to lean back when skiing my live lifes, but I knew that before I mounted them. at center.

they're fun as fuck as a BC jib ski though

then go upstate ny, the dacks have plenty of snow if u know where to look...

check my recent pic, its from ny

or if u want better go for northern vt somewhere

I will say most of us small East Coast hill-guys do have to lean back simply because our hills are too flat to get enough speed to ski pow properly without leaning back some.

Having fatter skis helps incredibly.

Oh, and skiing blower powder is the best skiing experience possible.

haha mine arent as flat as yours buddy! jk

seriously though we do need to lean back a bit. leaning forward would only make your tips dive and send you into a ragdoll or something along those lines

lets just say skiing powder is so much fun that it is even fun when you have a huge yardsale....now ask yourself, when was the last time you fell hard in the park and enjoyed it?

Soooo true.

I love a good faceplant in powder. I end up laughing hysterically after coming to a rest.

hahaha yeah skiing pow i could care less how bad of a fall i take cause its not going to hurt. i just seem to laugh hysterically at myself
